Hi all ill be editing and posting as i go, starting out some of my post are scattered through out the guild ill be working on fixing that first.

I hope people will try to participate in my classes, i have allot to show you and i have many years of experience to share with you as a student and as a teacher.

More then art i want to share with you my love for art its self and my passion.

Here you will be learning about philosophy, physics, mathematics and how it all is connected.

Fun fact. Did you know that music is math ?
We will be talking about this concept and many others as i show you how i view the world and how i was taught to see it.

I hope you will be as existed as i am to be talking bout the in depth ideas of art and what make it so amazing, learning and exploring these concepts will help you envision things you may have never seen before. What are they all talking about any way.

Why did Akida correct the word gesture? What is he talking about? If you find your self asking these questioning then here and one more form i started already is where ill be talking about concepts.

Feel free to add to the discussion, this is not intended to be a debate , add your views and every one will respect them, as i direct the class in the way that i choice to. ( ill allow plenty of free minded ideas because i can learn from my students in the same way i hope you guys can learn from me. )
1. There is not right are rouge answer this is philosophy and this is art.
2. Must show and give respect towards one another at all times please.
3. Be wiling to get a critique ( this is not however an argument of right rogue )
this is about ideas and expression, This idea is one of many of the beginning thoughts for philosophy, and philosophy
4. We will be taking about art, this will be our point of view our focus point, philosophy can get very broad and can get very out- of - hand so we will only talk about concepts that are related to art, however with that said, you would be supersized just how easy it is to get side tract, so it will be my job to real it back in when i see it going of topic.
5. every topic will have a lesson with it, so if we are talking about feeling then we will be learning about gesture, tone, why we do art, how to build portfolios , in other words every thing will have connection.

In general: ill will be giving explanations and details and homework assignments as if it where a real class.

although i relied i just gave a huge amount of information, i am trying as i speak to break it down into easy to follows steps for you instead of have all this information and probably not being able to do anything with it.

Ill go one step further and do drawing step by step with you so you know what im talking about, ill do this along with the figure challenge. Drawing it the number one step draw every day, and yes thousands of pictures, i couldn't tell you how many sketch books i have.

Once again starting with my assignment: To paraphrase my self,

Three drawings, from life , no pictures allowed, unless your the photographer , and the picture should only serve as a guide or a reference not as the only image your looking at, ideal i would like you to spend more time out side then with the picture.

landscape are not easy, nor do they happen quickly, it take a great amount of time study and patients to work with landscapes, you must also learn to lose your self in the moment to capture a great landscape.

more important then teaching you how to draw is teaching you how to be an artist, if nothing ells i hope i can teach you that.

Basics: to know how to draw a landscape review all the basic material already available, texture, line, shape, shading and if its there you will also need prospective. these are the fundamentals that build what landscapes are and everything you need to know to form them.

other material, review the : how to draw hair video : This video will be very helpful to you when drawing landscapes, also looking for any explanations about 3d shapes twisting bending or moving.

Remember a tree is alive, so draw it as if its alive not as if its a stick or a shape, which allot of new talent tend to do, you are drawing from life so your drawing should have life and expression.

These are just a few tips to get you guys started. Ill be running the coarse in this manor. ( if im indeed allowed )

P.s.
All drawing for the time being should be in pencil, no color yet and as i previously stated should be in medium tones try not to get lost in detail and shading.

note for latter: there is a technique ill be sharing with you all that involves only shading and very little line work. I use this drawing technique when drawing figures as well, this i like to call is a painterly way of drawing, its best done with charcoal however it can also be done with penile.

for more information go here, already provided for you by our lovely guild master.

you can also go

https://www.gaiaonline.com/guilds/viewtopic.php?t=25284689

( gesture video )

this is unorthodox however, what the guy is talking about is very important to not capture stiff looking trees for example you can apply the same concepts over and over again, this is what i am talking about when i say, " you will find drawing a chair is the same as drawing a person. "

( interesting poses)
This could serve to help train your mind to find things that are intresting, although this is personal and self reflective looking at all things and why you like them is a good way to start, why is this model so beautiful ?

note black and white landscapes are difficult, very because in order to capture them with a camera you must use a great deal of contrast, so the difference between photography and drawing is tremendous
This is why for the time being you should take a color picture, or not take a picture at all.

Looking at the video twisting forms, this will be helpful in drawing trees specifically.

Finally texture and tone, cross hatching is just one way to develop this, refer to this and the basics form also starting a new medium.

First topic of discussion to help the mind set as we draw, there will be a topic and homework related to the topic.

As a note i have already done my first landscape today, i am working on posting it.

Lets talk art

What is art any way?
What are they talking about?
Vocabulary and basics of art and why we are here!

Welcome to the first class Titled

Essentials of art and theory.

Small explanation:

As i watched some of those videos i relied that many terms are used with out really explaining them.
To say the least these words get thrown around and many people don't grasp the meaning.

So i start with the artist dictionary and example thread.

Atelier : Workshop or another term for studio ( i personally have never herd this word ) ( there was some others but i think my post was taken down so i don't remember them, as words come to me ill post them here )

Gesture: the videos almost got it right but its slightly off, simply put it means expression or feeling. Its however how they where using it in s sentence was accurate. I.E. : The gesture of the dancer was lose and fluid. This is talking bout how her body is shaped over all, but not the individual parts. However it dose not mean the movement or the curve of the body. This is slightly different.

One can also gesture to someone, move your body in order to communicate.

In other words there two ways that the body moves, in part and as a whole ( actually there are even more then that and i feel that they are over simplifying it )

Gesture means expression, you can't capture the movement of a body using a drawing, however you can capture the feeling of motion, and that would be slightly more accurate then above. ( this is normal done using exaggerated lines, in other words not what the body looks like but how it feels )

Simple definition: Gesture meaning motion of the body or the "flow" of the body. Here the the word flow is more important then the word motion. but what i want to illiterate is that the word motions is still apart of gesture and its is complex and not easy to define.

( there will be more to come )

Landscape how to demo

starting from let to right.

1. start with a Harrison line, a horizontal line in the middle of the page.
then break up the rest of the page horizontal two more time halve way point from mid to top and halve way point for mid to bottom

2. now draw your vertical center line ( i start with drawing a large circle in the middle of the page before doing all of this, however the order dose not matter )
this is just a guide and you can skip steps as needed or desired. ( note i don't always use all of the step in all of my drawings this is just a way to get a understanding of how to outline and design a landscape.

3 Draw a giant x shape through the mid point of the page ( this is a step that can easily be skipped not all drawing will need a land or a tilt , you will see why this line is important latter.

next step.

now that you got your landscape mapped out, you look for the largest and most simple shapes you can discover, triangles, circle etc that are naturally in your picture. In my example i have triangles in my mountains circle for my water , ovals for my hills and many other shapes.

Remember the idea is not to render the drawing, it should be light toned and medium shaded, even my example is slightly to dark ( however for me that's a drawing choice, the overall piece is about the same tone with low contrast, that is the important thing here. )
It will become clear to you why i am not talking about lighting and contrast now when i start the talk bout light and contrast. for now lets just concentrate on mapping a landscape.

Finally last step is to find the most sharp and obvious lines you can find and out line them, here is where you can get slightly darker then the average tone of your paper, see my example of the mountains and how they are darker then almost every other part of the paper. ( i went one step further and started to render the mountains just so people could see the next step however if your not there yet then your right on time because your not supposed to be there yet, however if you are there that is the nest topic. )
( btw. i had to fight the erg to finish the picture, so your welcome lol)

Template:

Although a critique dose not necessarily have to follow this format, this will give you a great idea how to give one.

1-5 ( and a secret 6)
This is how a critique is given, and what i am personally familiar with, this is also the grading system i use when grading students work at my school.

This system is similar and inspired by Scholastic Ap Art exam

how it works.

1. Shows minimal effort
2. effort is there but lacks technique and knowledge ( ill explain effort latter )
3. above average ( the mid point here is actually 2.5 )
4. Something stands out or supersizes me.
5. Wow ( good luck getting this score i almost never do this, this is reserved for when i have little to say or to correct )

Secret 6. to this day i have never awarded any one a 6, in order to receive a secret 6 you must show above and beyond abilities, that boarder master level quality and must show something beyond skill, techniques abilities in order to achieve it.
To get a 6 you must show understanding.

Break down
Effort: This is a hard thing to score, but in general its how much of the page is used, or if the drawing is a sketch verses a drawing. ( there are many categories of sketch and to a trained eye its just obvious )
Training the eye is one of the many thing ill attempt to teacher you here.
skill: this is all based off of level of mastery and more specificity is based off of realistic drawing. ( however i am also qualified to judge skill based off of abstract, and conceptual art, however i am only willing to step out of the box so far, i will not judge a dot on a canvas as good work. ) This is a personal choice, we can get in to philosophy later but i have a very good reason why i don't consider this art.
knowledge: this can be tricky even for me, im a trained artist so there for i have a trained eye, however it is not always clear if some one has know how or not, this comes with natural abilities, it also comes with your own hard work and dedicate and more or less you comparing your own work to theirs , this is at least one effective way to do that, or someone ells work to their, ( this is what i do when im teaching a class ) this can also be seen by literally showing it, like mastering more rarely seen techniques or ideas and concepts in order to show knowledge you probably have to score a 4.5 or better before ill even think about if your showing knowledge or not.

one exception: If the drawing is knowledge based it is judge by a different curriculum. What dose this mean? I am talking about anatomy, structure and basics of art. these concepts are judge by their own individual methods.

understanding: To show understanding is only done with a body of work, or with one work that is show well masters is hard not to see it. This is what i would like to call master level work, you can't look at Michelangelo statues and say he has no understanding that would basically be impossible, seance everything we know about art is based of his work and others like himself.
