Ialo heard a faint rattling, and looked around, holding up his finger to shush Alec. "What..?" He jumped clear out of his seat as Athena shrieked, and looked up. It was too late though. The girl landed on him, and they landed on the floor.
He groaned, and shut his eyes. For once, the ghosts haunting him were undetectable, Ialo was too focused on why Athena was all over him, and - licking him. He shuddered. ".... Athena. Get off me."

Athena blatantly refused. "No!" she exclaimed. "You disappeared and I couldn't find you! It was weird!" She almost mentioned how she was using the gloves and learning all sorts of weird things by snooping around but she decided (barely in time to keep her mouth talking about other things, like Ialo's hair) that it would be a bad idea.

Ialo looked at her strangely. Did she completely miss...? Well, it wouldn't be entirely unusual for her, he thought secretly. And he didn't want more people to know about this than necessary. The press coverage was bad enough.
"Please, Athena? I, ah, I missed you too, but I need to get back up." Athena adored him, surely she would do as he asked. Danni was generally complacent, and she and Athena hung out together a lot, so maybe Athena would just.. do as he asked....
"Please?"

"Oh the crazy stuff. That's right anyway." Quentin might've cutted of Alena's response though. Although it was a pretty important question, something about Maggie's answer tipped him off. "A Fairy Guard ?" his eyebrows lifted up in dubious surprise. "What's that about a Fairy Guard ? I've never heard of it. But then, I did go A.W.O.L for a while." he almost shrugged his reply, crossing his arms in a doubtful manner. He glanced at Marcos, he seemed to be listening for a while.

Athena whined pitifully. "Whyyyyy? I don't wanna!" She made very canine whining sounds in the back of her throat, turning on her puppy-eyes at full power. She pouted for good measure, but she didn't think it'd have as much affect on Ialo as on, say... Someone like Ambrose.
Athena was a dog hanyou, after all. She was expected to act like a puppy at least sometimes, and right now, all she wanted was to sit like a lapdog on Ialo until she was certain he wouldn't leave again. (Or until her attention was sufficiently diverted.) It didn't help matters that she was still tired; after all, she had only just awoken.

Ialo groaned, and stared up at the ceiling. He glanced back at Athena. Biiiiig mistake. He was visibly perturbed, and trying not to be sucked in by her adorable expression.
Desperate, he looked up at Alec. "... Help? Please? I'll pay overtime!" He just wanted Athena off of him. The feeling of someone so close to him after the nothingness of subspace was more than just weird. He felt like he was really about to freak out. It was different and warm and he just wanted to not have to fling Athena across the room so he could stand up.

Alec had watched the debacle play out before him in silent mirth, arms crossed and back leaning against the wall a few feet away. Alec had thought about taking the initiative and trying to distract Athena at first, but the fact remained that her beyond sunny personality was something that Ialo probably needed right now. Maybe not the best way to ease back into his old life, but hell, if Athena's show of affection didn't remind Ialo that he is, in fact, loved, Alec didn't know what would.
Alec gave Ialo a knowing wink and began to whistle at Athena like you would a house dog. "Hey girl! Hey, Athena! Look what I got!" Alec held up his hand, where a small puff of smoke appeared, revealing a small red rubber ball. Alec squeezed it, causing a squeaky noise to pierce the air. Alec squeaked the ball a few more times to get Athena's attention while shouting more encouragement at her. "Hey! Hey! See the ball? You want it? Huh, want it? Who wants the ball? Yes you do!" Alec then threw the ball at the wall, making it bounce a few times across the floor, while shouting "Go get it!"
As the ball neared the office wall though, Alec waved his hand and caused a portal to open up in the wall. The portal opened up right over Athena's bed, and the ball bounced happily into it, squeaking a few more times as it bounced up and down on the hanyou's cushions.
Now all Alec had to do was sit and wait.

Now, it's not that Athena didn't try to not pay attention to the calling or the pretty red ball but... It was a ball! A squeaky ball! You can't seriously expect her to just look the other way, can you? However, Athena was also quite smart: she didn't dare move an inch until she was certain that Alec could not grab the ball away from her to tease her with it like her brothers would sometimes do when she was littler. Being human as well as canine gave her the ability to learn from such (trivial) mistakes.
The second the ball left his hand to head to the wall, Athena bounded off of Ialo, paying no mind as she used him as a sort of jumping board to follow the pretty squeaky red pretty ball where'd it go squeaky red I want it now gimme! She did not pay attention to her surroundings when she pounced upon it, not noticing for a good few minutes that she had been duped right back into her room.
She whined pitifully when she realized that, but she had a ball and Ialo didn't seem to be going anywhere, so it was okay and oh my her bed was really comfy why did she leave it again?

"Victory..." Ialo said weakly after Athena was gone. He pushed himself up off the floor, standing up. After brushing himself off - dog hair, really? - He picked up the chair and set it upright again, before reclaiming his rightful seat as Headmaster.
"A squeaky toy? Really? That's so... so..." Ialo paused for a moment, gathering the right words. "... Primal. I didn't expect that from you."

Alec just raised an eyebrow at Ialo's comment, smirking slightly. "Oh really? And what would you have done to get her off? Your "ask nicely" tactic was rather effective. I can only imagine how effective the "sit up and hope she doesn't cling to my shirt" tactic would have been."

He frowned, and shrugged. "I'm trying... I'm trying to be different. Less demanding. But it's tough when being nice doesn't work and being strict gets you enemies. In the company at least, people follow results. I'm good with numbers, just not... not..." He waved his hand vaguely. "People."
Ialo looked down at his desk. What was he saying before Athena crashed in?

That's so strange..." Quentin pondered. So, even though he'd just arrived... There was a lot of stuff happening at Mystic Fountain. "How come you have Lin's memories then ? You're a copy of her, even to the past ?"{{Admitting that she wasn't inspired to post as Maggie instead of saying she was too busy was all I wanted. wink LOL. Calling her bluff! xp wink }} Alena tilted her head to the side in slight confusion. "Why wouldn't I have her memories. Being as I am a direct copy, I have retained everything she has with only a couple of changes that the water pixies purposefully made. A copy is contains the same contents as the original, so yes, of course I have her memories. They're just as much my memories as they are hers."
She smiled warmly at Quentin, grateful for the question and hoping she answered him well.

Alec nodded his head slightly at what Ialo said. He understood what he was talking about. Alec had quite a bit of trouble dealing with people when he was younger too. It took several years before he had a decent idea of what he was doing, and even to this day Alec still made mistakes. But he was human, it was expected.
Alec unfolded his arms and began to gesture lazily with his hands in a rolling motion as he explained his thoughts. "Yeah, not everyone is made to handle people. They're delicate. But there's a healthy balance to it, just like everything else. Trust me, find the balance and you can do anything you want." Alec put a bit more depth behind his last words, hinting at an ideal that Ialo would benefit from. After all, he said he saw himself while in subspace, and didn't like it. If he could balance out what he did and didn't like about what he saw, Alec felt that Ialo would be a much more stable person.

Ialo grimaced slightly. The last time he had tried to balance anything, it was his checkbook, and it was always a massive ordeal. And then, the one time he tried to understand people by using numbers - well, that's how Seven and her ilk were created. Him trying to understand people... it just didn't happen.
"Well then, Alec, what's your balance? Between your job as a teacher, and... and..." Ialo failed to find the words, and stared at Alec. What did he know about this man? And compared to how much Alec knew about him? Uneasiness settled, and Ialo folded his hands, his expression muted. This bothered him so much, this feeling of the unknown.
And just as quickly as it came, looking at Alec, that calm and sincere man, Ialo felt a profound calm, an epiphany of sorts. He crossed his legs and leaned back in his seat, relaxed. "I am insane, aren't I? Or course I am. Mad, even. I'm sorry, I got distracted. All alone, one thought turns into another turns into another. Your balance, where is yours? You're my total opposite, I'm sure it's somewhere I'd never even dream of."

Alec smiled slightly at Ialo's profound question. "Simple. My balance lies in the fact that I know who I am, mostly, and I'm ok with it. I do what I do and I have no regrets. I may not have conquered all of my demons, but I've at least admitted what they are to myself."
