Alec smiled warmly at Danni and her profound statement. It meant a lot for him to know that he was part of Danni's trusted 'inner circle' as it were. "Thank you Danni, that means a lot to me." And it was then that Alec walked forward and, without much warning, grabbed Danni in a large hug. He held her much like a father would their child, or perhaps a taller friend to their shorter one. "You should know that I trust you too. You might be young, and you do make mistakes every so often. But you're smart enough to avoid the big mistakes, and you have a good heart. I value those things dearly in a person."

Alec decided to hold on to Danni for a short while. After everything the poor girl had been through he felt that it was something she needed, whether she really knew it or not.

It wouldn't last though, Alec knew that. This just wasn't Danni's style. But it would be a nice gesture all the same.

When Alec hugged her, Danni felt the warmth seep into her, shattering the instant unease that came whenever someone touched her suddenly.

Letting her breath ease out, Danni briefly returned his hug, her lips curving. "You've a way with words, Alec, that makes me feel important. It's a fine skill." Then, because she was never comfortable for long with personal contact of this sort, she stepped back, easing out of his arms.

"It's kind you are, professor. Do me a favor and stay that way, hm? Tis a fine trait." She reverted, as she sometimes did when relaxed, to Cook's way of talking, the easy tone and lilting words.

No, she thought, she wasn't dumb, nor was she smart. She had a way with languages, yet simple math puzzled her. But when Alec spoke, she felt smart. And she felt like a somebody. She could get used to that.

Alec gave Danni a thumbs up in response. "Alright, I'll try."

Alec was glad that Danni was loosening up as she was. Most anyone saw was an angry or overly energetic young girl with a loner streak. If anyone took the time to find out who the real Danni was they'd find a true friend in her.

And thinking about friends got Alec thinking about Ialo, and his plan to try and get him back. And it was then that he realized that Danni might not know about the plan. She hadn't made any attempt to ask Alec about the details, in fact she hadn't made an attempt to mention it at all. So Alec decided to remedy that situation. Danni should know what was going on. Plus it was fairly good news, it might help to improve her mood even more.

"You know, this is kinda off topic, but I don't think you heard. I've... uh... kinda made a deal with Silas. He's given us a chance to get Ialo back."

Immediately Danni snapped to attention, her eyes darkening, going from friendly to serious in an instant. If she'd had a notebook and a pencil, she would've been holding them, like an eager student taking notes.

Jumping up so that she was sitting on top of his desk, she rested her hands on her knees, watching him closely. "Go on," She'd given her oath. At the moment, there could be nothing more important than this. And it had to do with Ialo. Getting Ialo back. Her heart pounded for a moment before it was controlled, and then there was only steady concentration in her eyes. Anything else had no place.

Düthmér Ingeitum – Grumpy dwarf
Good deed done for the month.

A growl of hunger brought Düthmér back to reality from his intense building spree. Scattered around him were dozons of tools and materials, all used in some way or another to help build the contraption in front of him. Although it was more than half finished, to the more technically or magically minded, it was easy to see what it would do when finished. It was a magic amplifier. Clapping the dust and oil off of his hands, he stood up and wandered off for some food. Treking down the stairs, he turned onto the corridor that went towards the food hals only to find the student that had been playing the music earler sprawled on the floor in front of the nurses office. I didn't do this, did I?

Moving over to James' side, Düthmér moved the scythe out of the way so that he could flip him on to his front. Good, he's still breathing. Let's get him inside the nurse's room. Half lifting, half dragging James into the room, Düthmér flopped him onto a bed before collecting the scythe to set next to it. Looking at the engravings down the blade and the inset line down the blade. It was fine craftsmanship, though not dwarven as he had thought at first glance. Oh well. Leaving the weapon leaning on the wall next to the bed, Düthmér left the room and continued towards the food halls for a late lunch. Perhaps he would get some meat and pasta. He hadn't had that for a while.

Alec's eyebrow lifted at Danni's almost dog-like enthusiasm when she heard Ialo's name being mentioned. It was even a little creepy on some level. But Alec knew Danni only wanted to help, and she deserved to know what was going on. Before he spoke though Alec put up his hands in a defensive gesture. "Alright, now, before I say anything else, you should know that I... kinda stepped out of bounds in getting this deal. I know that, so you don't have to let me know."

"Ok. So, the deal that I made with Silas. We're going to race him, in a drag race. The school is allowed a team to race for it, and Silas is allowed his own team. The first team across the finish wins. If we win, Ialo gets released back to us, he gets reinstated as Headmaster, and Silas has to leave immediately. If we lose though... Ialo's business and the entirety of his work will be destroyed. Silas will go into the global records and either change or erase all data related to Ialo Enlil. ...It'll be like he never existed. And he'll never be released from prison."

"Is that was what you did, then?" Danni asked after some length of silence, and her voice was pleasant, dangerously so. She tapped her fingers on her knee, but when she blinked, her eyes were red, taking on a gleam that the demons of Hell lived in fear of. Even Arzol, who could weather through most of her moods, got out of her way when she got that certain gleam in her eye.

She smiled, but the smile was one cold as the Arctic. "A drag race, is it? Of all the things in the bloody world you could have chosen...A drag race." She said it again, as though they were foreign words none too pleasant to the ear. She crossed her legs in an Eleanor-like gesture that she'd have bludgeoned anyone for calling her on, and almost managed to pull off the regal Rinaldi 'Look' when she tilted her chin up, looking down her nose at him a bit, displeased princess to a servant who hadn't carried out his orders correctly.

"I assume you realize that that oozing pile of slime will do everything in his power to rig this competition, yes? And that he would never agreed to such a thing if he planned on losing?" She said, arching a brow, still royally pissed off that the man had tossed her out a four story window. And that was the least of his crimes.

"Who exactly is on this little team of your that you're entrusting the dragon boy's future to?" She asked, her voice even, mildly curious. But under the easy tone was steel and Hell fire, waiting to lash out.

If they lost this ridiculous challenge, she thought, her mind piecing together every option, every possibly conclusion, there was still another option. The Ancients still owed her a big fat favor that she'd yet to call in. It wouldn't be easy, she knew, and she'd have to offer up a trade to get them to agree to pull the dragon boy out of Limbo. But it was an option to consider.

But for now she merely stared at Alec with eyes the bright, hideous color of blood. And waited for a reply.

Alec's eyebrow raised once again, though this time it was in mild aggravation. As much as Alec liked Danni as a person and a student, she WAS still his student. And right now she was acting like she was his mother, scolding him for making a poor choice. And quite frankly, Alec didn't like it. "Danni, as much as I respect and enjoy your company, you really have no right to talk down to me like that. I did what I thought was best at the time, and I don't deserve to be treated like some child that just spilled his milk all over the table."

Alec crossed his arms over his chest in annoyance as he began to explain himself to Danni. And really, he shouldn't have to explain himself to her. She wasn't in charge (as much as she'd like to be, probably,) and Alec was trying to work an overly one-sided deal in their favor for the best interests of one of their friends.

"I chose a drag race because Silas has a series of robots himself, ones that he pretty much copied off of Ialo's satellites. It was the only way he'd agree to any kind of competition. This way Silas will be able to see if his ingenuity can beat everything that Ialo has to offer. In other words, that he is the better man. We all know he's not, but as long as he thinks he can win then we have a chance to win Ialo back."

"And yes, I do realize that Silas will do everything in his power to rig the race so that he'll win. That's why I made it a "first across the finish" race rather than a "who has the most finishers" race. That way if (god forbid) he manages to eliminate some of our racers, we'll still have a shot at winning." Alec then uncrossed his arms and pointed at Danni as he continued on with his tirade. "And speaking of racers, I actually wiggled another opportunity out for us. Silas never said how many racers we were restricted too, so we can have as many as we want. And I opened up the roster to anyone here on campus that wants to race. You, Athena, Ophi, anyone that goes to this school can race for Ialo's freedom. And there's a lot of people at this school that... well they don't exactly want Ialo back, but they DO want Silas gone. And that's motivation enough for them."

Alec let his hands fall to his side as he finished off his argument with one last bullet point, hoping to spark some inspiration in the little firebrand that sat before him. "And before you even ask, yes, I realize that nobody at this school probably has an F-1 formula car on hand. That's why I'm going to design and build the cars that people want. If they sign up I'll have them fill out a request sheet for me, telling me what they want. All within reason, of course. Plus I still have to meet with Silas and figure out the rules so I don't go breaking anything with our machines. But as a side note, if you have anything in mind, let me know. I'll start getting some ideas churning for later."

Danni raised a brow, listening as Alec reluctantly explained himself. "Well, I've gone and pissed you off, haven't I?" She said, slightly amused, and the red in her eyes faded to a vague pink around the edges.

"I'd apologize, but since I'm not sorry for what I said, it would be quite pointless. So I'll just say I crossed some sort of teacher-student line somewhere along the way." She shrugged, a dismissive gesture.

"But anyway," She uncrossed her legs, lifted them up so her feet were planted on the desk, spread in quite an unladylike manner. A sure sign that any crisis had passed. "I'm afraid I'm given to some degree of overreaction when it comes to matters pertaining to the dragon boy." Amused at herself for using big words, she smiled a bit, paying no mind to Alec's annoyance.

"So...drag racing." Warming to the idea, she scratched her chin, had a brief mental fantasy involving Silas' robots smashed to bits, and Silas himself bleeding beneath spiked tires.

"Count me in. Mystic Fountain's belltower ghost drag racing...I like it." She grinned, a fleeting curve of lips and flashing of teeth.

A small shiver visibly ran up Alec's spine when he began to think about what Danni had in mind for her own wheels. "I shudder to think what you want to have for your car. Hopefully it's not My Chemical Romance on wheels. ...God I hope it's not that. I mean, I know we want to win, but let's do it with some class. I think we can manage that, can't we?"

((Happy Thanksgiving, guys.))

Dymetri held an awed smile, graciously accepting the soft breeze coming from the circle of creatures despite the prior chill he felt after coming out of the water. "This would be the sweetest treasure my eyes had ever held, if there was such a world without your existence," he softly murmured, looking at Lin after his statement. "The party should be invitation-only," he said with a smirk. "Not everyone could handle such a sight; I wonder if this occurs daily or if we're especially lucky tonight."
Dymetri looked down at Lin and smiled.

I'm cold.
"Come, I think it's time for hot chocolate. Marcos's mother packs everything for him, so I'm sure we'll have some."
I can't feel anything. I'm numb.

{{Oooh good post!! biggrin And I'm ready to skip to the party whenever you are, Victoria! And ANYONE is welcome to join in! Hopefully it will be a lot of fun!}}

Lin blushed and looked down slightly. She was smiling, though. She was just a little humbled and bashful at all the wonderful things Dymetri was saying about her. And she knew that he meant them. Dymetri did not say something he didn't mean, at least from what she knew about him. He had never done that with her. So that made his words, his compliments, even more special. She knew he meant them with every fiber of his being.

She looked up and nodded to his question. Lin also rested her head on his shoulder. "Yes, let's. It sounds wonderful right now. And some muffins, my love!"
