On the road to home
(rp with midnight_medea, ceedabear and lady mercy)

Quote:
It was the sound of several voices that woke Tsura from her partial dozing state. Traveling along a small road with not another soul in sight it had seemed ok to sort of rest for a bit. Ink and copper rarely strayed from and obvious path and if they got in in their minds to do so, usually to attempt to graze, she was still awake enough to feel the reins jerk in her hands so that she'd be conscious enough to straighten them back up.

Now however it was not that which brought back to a state of full awareness but the sound of other people, the possibility of brief conversation with another person. Directing ink and copper to pick up speed Tsura couldn't help but smile as the voices got louder and suddenly a small group same into sight. From the looks of things two wagons had stopped for some reason in the middle of the road preventing anyone from getting past them.

" Is everything ok" The young woman called out not wanting to get in the midst of a confrontation even though things seemed to look friendly enough.

Quote:

A thin, polite smile appeared on Mekah's lips as he took the map.
"Thank you." he said, rolling the parchment open expertly and taking it in carefully. "Twenty two caravans?" he asked, glancing up briefly. That sounded like his idea of hell. Little miss sunshine was more than enough company.

He found their crossroads and started to follow the lines east and west to see where they could head and be safe.

Another voice appeared from nowhere. He looked up and sighed. Yay, more company. he thought dryly

Quote:

Covet laughed softly as the little one pointedly ignored her. He was entirely too cute in her opinion, she thought as she watched him for a moment then turned her eyes to the man that was with them as he got up and climbed down to join them. Taking in his features, she smiled and stepped away from Kai to join them as he spoke and Mekah unrolled the map.
"Gypsies?" she smiled, her eyes flickering between the trio. She honestly couldn't think of a more exciting opportunity. To meet with such a free and proud people, almost immediately questions began to bubble forth in her mind, but they were put on hold as they were joined by another. Turning to the newcomer, Covet smiled warmly and nodded to her.
"Everything is fine. My friend and I are just lost and seem to be taking up the whole road for everyone," she laughed and folded her arms behind her back. "Would you all like for me to shift our wagon out of the way?" she asked, taking a small step back and gesturing towards the brightly painted caravan.

Quote:
"My sister moreso than me - I'm new to the gypsy life but Altaira's been traveling a long while now. And you?" Thuban started to explain and ask questions of his own, curious about the pair. He was always one to try to make friends or at least get a bit of interesting information during a random chat.

"We can shift ours as well?" He offered, calling back to Tsura.

*

Al and Sindri just sat pretty, she watching, the former bobcat baby not-watching. She was shy still, though Thuban's presence in her life and the much more managable Sindri were working wonders for her confidence.

Quote:

Tsura shook her head, then swept away the stray hairs that fell in her face becuase of the motion. " It's fine I'm not heading anywhere in a real hurry take all the time you need." Just a little nosy and bored Tsura hopped down off the front seat of her wagon and walked towards where the others were standing. Predictably Copper and Ink veered off the road just enough to be able to grab mouthfuls of grass.

Quote:
"We're just trying to find somewhere to stay." Mekah said as he traced a dark finger over the map. He really was not in the mood for all this lets tell our life story business. "Somewhere not too crowded."

His lips made a thin smile as he rolled the map up and handed it back to the man.
"I told you it was East." He gave Covet a look and folded his arms again. "Thank you for your help, we may get out of your way now."

Quote:
Covet smirked at Mekah's abruptness and watched him hand the map over, glancing up at him and smirking at the look he gave her. It amused her how important it was for him to be right all the time. Reaching out, she placed a light hand to his arm to stop him and turned a brillian smile to their newfound companions.
"We're old friends, recently reunited and travelling aimlessly for a bit," she said with a friendly smile. It was nice to have some pleasant faces to converse with, rather than Mr. Sour Puss all the time. "I'm Covet, he's Mekah, it's a pleasure to meet you all," she smiled, looking to the two faces that had joined them on the ground, and then up to the pair still on the wagon. "Is your Caravan far?" she asked with bright eyes.

Quote:

"We should be able to get to where the Caravan should be a bit late into the evening, time enough to set up for the night. It should be staying in place until we rejoin it and then traveling on after a day or two...unless we really like the pitch." Thuban explained, sensing that perhaps he'd run across some people who might like to come meet the others, maybe trade or just spend some time in company. He didn't think the pair'd be interested in staying at all since the man was clearly not keen on large groups. And Tsura'd just arrived.

"I'm sure you'd be welcome to come visit us, swap stories, trade and the like. It's a friendly sort of caravan and where it should be is a nice big patch of grazing land."

Quote:
Covet, Tsura thought, was going to be much more pleasant to converse with than her friend; assuming Mekah cared to talk to anyone at all. It seemed unlikely he'd be having fun when surrounded by many others since he disliked crowds. Still, since Tsura believed in invitation was for everyone perhaps she could talk to Covet tonight when they reached the caravan. It might be easier to talk to a fellow outsider than try and break into an already settled unit right away.

Turning to face the one person on the ground who's name she hadn't quit caught Tsura's once gained brushed her bangs out of her hazel eyes and smiled ." I do believe you have an invitation too good to pass up."Really even if it was just for a short time it would be nice to be with people again to feel connected to something.

~ Holy crap a banya shows up.

Quote:
Mekah listened to Covet and the invitations to join the caravan. He had hoped, yes, hoped for a nice peaceful life on the road. Moving from town to town, obtaining interesting new artifacts. Then he had run into Covet. he knew it was too much to ask that she would not wish to join them. Covet fed off company and laughter. This would be a dream to her.

Lost in his thoughts he did not notice the bird that landed close by. It was nothing more than a flapping in the background, until it spoke. He could sense the magic that flowed through it and knew at once it was not some rambling parrot.
"Is it either of yours?" he asked, looking to both Tsura and Thuban.

Quote:
Covet's eyes lit up as Thuban said that the caravan was only a short distance away. She couldn't believe their good luck, to have found such a people out on the remote road Mekah had chosen to take them down. As the invitation was made to join him and his sister on the rest of their journey, she grinned and nodded in agreement with Tsura, then turned pleading eyes up to Mekah.

"It would only be for a little while. Please Pyar," she smiled softly, using her recently developed pet name for him as she reached out to rest a light hand on his arm. As the new voice rang out, Covet blinked and followed Mekah's eyes to the beautiful bird that had settled near their caravan. Breathing in deeply as she too felt the magic that swept through their small meeting, she turned her eyes up to Mekah with curiosity burning in them, then quickly looked to their companions to hear what they had to say.

It's not mine, brother. Lochan's my only." Altaira called, when Thuban turned to look at her at the arrival of the banya. He'd yet to really bother meeting Lochan, Altaira's banyan, for the half-breed was a grumpy bird and had sulked into the shadows of his home whenever he tried to see him. This bird was too blue and it's words too nice to be Lochan anyway, so he turned back to the others.

"The bird isn't one of yours then? It's a lovely creature and they're very useful companions, being able to catch kernals of magic on the wind and translate them into fortunes." Supposedly.

Fortuitous close encounter

Quote:
Tsura fiddled somewhat nervously with the end of her braid as she walked towards Honeyed Aria. It wasn't like she actually had any business there, she was just curious about the wagon that apparently homed so many Banyas. Tsura hasn't seen one of the creatures since she'd left her home Caravan five years ago.

She rapped lightly on the door " Anyone here?."

Quote:
Rojiza opens the door, hoping it isn't Tamlin again. What an obnoxious woman.
She regards this woman she'd never seen before and arches a furry eyebrow, inviting her to speak her purpose.
She thinks she has an idea, but she could be wrong. After all, the Meij has been...even more unpredictable lately.

Quote:
Tsura was somewhat startled by the girl before her. In the short time she'd been with the caravan she'd glimpses of other odd children, not including Sindri whom she'd seen full on, but she'd been too busy trying to settle in to investigate. Trying not to stare the woman found words came easier than she'd expected.

"I apologize if I'm disturbing you, My name is Tsura," here she paused to smile " I was curious about this wagon, it's been a long time since I've seen Banya." Not quire rambly the young woman thought, though still sort of weird and perhaps not the best impression she could have made.

Quote:
Ro takes out her pad and charcoal.
I'm Rojiza. I take care of the Banya. You can come in and visit if you want. They like attention. She hands Tsura the pad and opens the door wider to admit her. She gives Vahe, who's perched as usual on her shoulder, a loving scritch under his beak.

Quote:
"Thank you Rojiza." Tsura stepped inside and admired the orderliness the place seemed to have. While there had been a few Banya in the old caravan there had never been a wagon devoted just to them and it was strange and yet interesting to see so many things that recognized that were for them and yet many more that were foreign. Clearly Rojiza knew what she was doing.

Moving to give Rojiza a bit of space Tsura approached a Banya with deep red and gold plumage. "Hello there pretty one." she spoke softly not wanting to startle it.

Quote:
The bird squawks at Tsura and ruffles her feathers. She looks at Ro with her piercing crimson eyes, and Ro gets that tightness in her chest again. She knows what to do this time, though. The bird has chosen Tsura. She grabs her pad again, and writes for Tsura.
This one's chosen you. She's a she, and a fire breed. You do know what Banya do, correct?

The Banya hops onto Tsura's shoulder, settling there with a little purr.

Quote:
" I um yes , I know they tell fortunes if cryptically, My uncle Ian was usually trying to figure out what his was saying." Tsura's eyes went from Rojiza and the pad to the Banya perched upon her right shoulder.

" Thanks" she murmured as she reached out to stroke her back. I don't know why you chose me, she thought, but thanks.

Directing her attention back at Rojiza she smiled " I should probably get her home and settled in. Can I come back and visit some time if I have questions?" At the moment her mind was blank for names and she'd have to choose one soon. That and Ink and Copper needed to get used to the concept of her traveling with them.

Quote:
Rojiza nods. She hopes this woman would take good care of the fiery bird.

The name game

Tsura carefully watch her newly acquired Banya as the bird settled own on the tail gate of her wagon. It was for the time the best place for such a creature, unless she wanted to lay down on Tsura's makeshift bed.

" I'm sorry I don't have a perch or a cage or something. I'll see if I can't get one made. it would be easy enough to secure a small perch to the high wooden siding of her wagon. Plus since it was a covered wagon the Banya would have a nice breeze and view of the outside at all time. If she wanted she could even fly in and out of the wagon during the day.

" What to you think about Gisli as a name?" Part of Tsura knew that Banya were only so smart that to a degree it didn't matter what she suggested. Still there should be some semblance of choice involved.

Gisli stared at Tsura with her crimson eyes for a moment before making a soft cooing sound and beginning to preen.

" Gisli it is then" The young woman confirmed and left her new acquaintance to get settled down.

Gisli shifted uncomfortably on her brand new perch. She listened intently as the wind brought something to her... something that she had to relay to the woman who had treated her so kindly. Like all Banya she knew nothing of it or of the words, only that she should speak... so she did.

It is born of fire,
With words that become dear,
Whether good or dire,
it changes those who are near.

Reaction

Tsura's Hazle eyes went wide as she digested what she'd just heard. The young woman had just climbed into the wagon to change, having spent the earlier part of the day brushing caked on mud off of Ink and Coppers legs and bellies. For some reason the two loved a good roll in the nearest source of mud. It wasn't as if they needed it as protection from flies or anything.

Now however was not the time to think about Oxen, it was the time to figure out what Gisli meant and how soon whatever she was talking about would happen. Although Tsura had seen her uncle's Banya before at her old caravan and she'd heard of the fortunes he'd been told by them she'd never actually seen it happen. The brief encounter with Mekah's seemed somewhat surreal and yet now here it was happening to her as well.

Pulling her inky black hair into a bun Tsura chewed on her lower lip. She was pretty sure she knew what the riddle referred to , though she'd ask some other's tonight their opinions. Covet perhaps, the other woman she'd met on the way to the caravan had seemed nice enough.

For now she simply routed through her supplies until she found a small glass container of nuts. Pouring a few into her hand she offered them to Gisli in thanks.

Everything in it's place

Tsura carefully hung clothes on the line she'd temporarily pinned to the side of wagons canvass frame. It was convenient she though that there was space enough to hang just about all the clothing and rags she washed at any one time on it's length. Not to mention that the breeze with fled through the currently opened ended covered wagon helped in the drying process. Tsura knew her wagon was different from the beautifully carved and well decorated wagons other Gypsys but in her five years of travel she'd found it suited her just fine.

Today for Tsura was cleaning day she was was doing a wash, sweeping out the wagon and giving the various shelves and cabinets a dusting. Fortunately for her Gisli seemed to be content to perch atop the wagon and enjoy the sunshine. Looking up Tsura could make out the dark shape of the Banya resting at the top of the canvass. From time to time the bird uttered coos and trills but never any words again. She seemed done with prophecy giving for now.

Leaving the laundry to dry the dark haired woman took a damp cloth and began to wipe down the non floor surfaces in the wagon . It never ceased to amaze her how much dust collected in such a short amount of time, especially when her wagon wasn't even moving. Eventually she reached a small cabinet containing her journal some liniment bottles and a Quill she'd picked up just outside of neriid. Not surprisingly these too had dust on them and she began to clean them off as well.

The young was very gentle with the quill, she'd had no chance to use it yet and it was such a pleasant colour all yellow and red. To be honest it reminded her somewhat of Gisli's feathers only smaller. As she set it back in the cabinet Tsura made a note to getting around to writing in her journal with it soon.

Banya response

Tsura, who stood outside the back of the canvass wagon but able to see in just stared at Gisli. That was certainly shorter than last time, did that mean it was more urgent? The young woman frowned and hugged a bungled of clean sun dried laundry to her chest, fiery feather.. Berit? Suddenly concerned for the safety of the crimson feathered quail whom was currently nowhere to be seen Tsura tossed her laundry into the wagon and took off in pursuit of the small bird.

She knew it might be nothing, knew she might be wrong, after all banya were often cryptic so a fiery feather may not have anything to do with Berit at all. Still the gypsy woman couldn't take that chance, she needed to find Berit and then if everything was fine, then she'd worry about what else Gisli could have been talking about.
