Val stepped down off the back of her wagon for the third time in the last hour. Something wanted her attention, she could feel it. But each and every time she physically moved to seek it out, the feeling went 'cold' and the desire to be sought out and that was calling her wavered into indicision and then seemed almost to change it's mind completely. Each time that had happened, she'd sighed good naturedly and turned back into her wagon to await the deisre to leave again.
This time was no different. The second her feet his the dirt in the shade of the wagon, the desire faded slowly. She shook her head. It was almost as bad as getting up to go somewhere only to find out that you'd forgotten what it was you were going to do halfway there. But this time she wasn't going back. This time she was going to take a walk and she was going to visit some of the newer gypsies who joined the caravan in Nerrid.
The first one on her way down the wagon train was Tsura Kircher's, and Val grinned as she saw the black haired woman in the near distance. So she called out a greeting and strode up to the wagon.
"Tsura. Well met. How are you today?"

From her position up on her wagon seat Tsura grinned and waved to the Caravan leader. " Good, trying to deny Gisli my entire supply of nuts, and yourself?" the young woman wondered what brought Val out to see her and she hoped she hadn't overstayed her welcome.
Perched on the tailgate of the covered wagon Gisli ruffled her rich red feathers as if aware of the insinuation that she was being greedy and disagreeing wholly with it.

Val smiled at the bird and then turned her attention back to Tsura. "I was just restless and wandering. There's a maij presence that cannot seem to make up it's mind, and I'm waiting to be 'told' what to do." She smiled knowingly at the other woman and then looked her wagon over. "Quite an interesting peice of work. Should fit in nicely with the caravan, should you decide to travel with us for a while." She crossed her arms, adjusting her shawl to do so and then nodded and smiled again as a thought crossed her mind. "It's always my pleasure to welcome new people to the troupe over and over again. I'm not intruding am I?"

Tsura shook her head " No, you're quite welcome here and I intend to stay with you as long as you'll have me," her fears soothed The young woman relaxed a bit more.
" I don't know much about the Maiji" Tsura admitted " Though Gisli decided to speak up the other day and I know Mekah's banya did too. I suppose something strange is in the air."
Briefly she frowned the stood " look at me talking away without inviting you on up. Please come in, I don't have a lot but what's mine is yours." Hazel eyes shot a wary look at Gisli who was edging ever closer to the shelf where the glass jar of nuts were kept.

Val smiled and nodded, but as she was about to step out of the wagon she felt the same 'pull' as before calling her. She was about to make her excuses and step back down out of the wagon when she realized that whatever it was that was calling was here inside this very wagon. Listening intently for a moment Val locked her eyes on a cabinet with a shelf. Before she could really tell what it was though, the feeling died down and became very soft as it had before. Whatever was calling was somewhere over there.
She smiled and stepped all the way into the wagon. "Yes. From what the caravaners are saying, all the Banya had a taste of the Meij recently. It usually means change, in one way or another. Do not fret about it though, we are watched over well by many." She nodded towards the cabinet and shelf. "I'm afraid that I must change the subject just a little. I was following a Meij calling earlier that seemed to have grown faint and stopped, but now that I've stepped into your wagon, and thank you for wecloming me so, I am convinced that the calling is coming from somewhere in your cabinet there or even on your shelf." She nodded matter-of-factly and smiled at Tsura.

Tsura was somewhat startled, what on earth could the Meiji possibly want with the contents of her cabinet, or to be more accurate what was it doing int he cabinet to begin with? " That's weird" she muttered but smiled and walked over to the cabinet in question. She seriously hoped nothing was wrong, although Val didn't seem too worried.
Inside the cabinet were two bottles of liniment her occasionally used journal and a particularity pretty quill she'd acquired not too long ago but hadn't had the chance to use. " I don't see anything."

Val looked over the meager items and noted to herself to gift the woman an inkwell and some paper... but as the thought occured to her, the meij presence called out again and Val stepped forward, eyes locked on the quill. She grinned and picked it up, examining it quickly. "This." Then without waiting for an answer or permission the woman grabbed her flint from her belt pouch, lit a nearby candle and set the tip of the quill aflame. When the tip was lit she set the feather down on the worktop and stepped back. No sooner was she two steps away, then the feather burst into flames and turned to ashes. Val smiled and held up a hand to silence any utterance from the other woman... and seconds later, as they watched, a small bird came up from the ashes. Val twisted her lips up and laughed, cocking her head like a dog does when it doesn't understand. Then she turned to Tsura and pointed at the little Quail with pure amusement. "Thus shall light a sacred flame, and in the death of the sentance shall rise.... a quail." Then she laughed again. "I suppose that's what you get when you tell stories. And I suppose.... what quail wouldn't want to be a sacred pheonix?"

Tsura was about to protest the mishandling of her quill when it burst into flames. She stared somewhat in shock as Val spoke. " I, but, I don't understand." Banya fortunes were one thing but quills turning into quails was another and there was a limit to the amount of magic that made sense to the woman.
Speaking of Banya, Gisli stared curiously at the new arrival. With a gleam in her crimson eyes the fire Banya flew forward and landed beside the Quail to get a closer look.

Val smiled "This is the Meij creature that has been calling me all morning, asking to be released from it's item form." She reached out and gently touched the bird on it's head, then stroked down it's neck quickly. "being gypsies we all tend to attract magical creatures along our journies. One such kind of creature is fortunettes. Beings that call themselves into existance after identifying a 'caretaker' or 'family' as it were. This particular caravan of wagons has been very blessed indeed over the years by the amount of fotunette creatures seeking out our individual family members." Then she tuned to Tsura with a solemn smile and spoke truthfully. "This Quail Female has chosen you to be it's 'family' and caretaker. I hope you'll accept?"

Tsura nodded " Of course, I'll take care of her and make certain the others know she's not for eating or anything." Tsura found it strangely disconcerting that her fortunette animals was something that was edible both by other creatures and by people. As she watched the little Quail strut about the workspace, head held high she smiled a bit " I think I'll name her Berit, it seems to suit her. Is there anything else I should know? Any special care a fortunette requires?" She certainly hoped there would be no more of setting things on fire.

Val shook her head and started for the entrance. "No. Each fortunette, much like each person, is different." She placed a hand on the wagon frame right before she stepped out. "My best advice would be to watch her and tend to her needs, and make it a point to talk to the other caravan members about thier children. You'd be surprised what you can learn by the experience of others."

The young woman nodded " Ok, thanks, have a nice day." she called out as the woman departed. Hazel eyes went again to the quail which had hopped down onto her pile of cleaning rags and seemed to be settling down for a nap or something. Gisli perched on top of the workspace and stared intently at Berit. Tsura wasn't sure if there was going to be friendship of rivalry between the two birds.
Deciding that it was best to keep an eye on the pair for the next few hours Tsura made a mental note to take Val's advice and go visiting some other caravan members that night or the next day.
