Jamie stopped just far enough from the intruder to not be blinded by the radiating light, but he still held a hand over his eyes to make himself a bit more comfortable. He sat on the soft grass in a ladylike pose. “And what makes you think only children make good sacrifices?” he said with a girlish chuckle. He had no intention of making a sacrifice out of the koroki boy; that wasn’t the kind of magic Jamie practiced.
Jamie smiled up at the koroki’s sprite fluttering about his head. “Does your friend have a name?” he asked, still watching the sprite. “I’ve lived in this glade for as long as I have been a creature in this world.” Jamie responded, not meaning to sound cryptic or mysterious, that was simply how the mage spoke. “I don’t get many visitors, not even the creatures of the forest venture this deep into the wood.” Jamie hadn’t actually seen another person for a few decades.

The scent of hot desert sand was what warned her to dive out of the way a split second before the sphinx would have caved in her skull with its stone hammer. Snarling in frustration, it winged away only to hover high above her, casting its shadow upon the forest floor. Unlike the first sphinx she had encountered, this one was decidedly male and looked quite a bit more physically impressive. "Murderer!" It howled. "I can smell the blood of my mate upon you! Die!"
It swooped down on her once again, and Kai hastily tried to dive out of the way while firing off a spear of energy at it, remembering how well that tactic had worked for the other sphinx she'd encountered.

She fired her attack just before it could brain her, and hit it point blank. Howls of rage broke abruptly into choked gurgles as it was flung back, its chest a gory ruin. Coincidentally, it landed right on the carcass of the bug she'd killed, great wings beating feebly once or twice before they stilled altogether. From the way it landed, it looked oddly as if the bug was embracing it. Yuck.
Kai was rather disappointed by the lackluster performance really. The first sphinx she'd killed, the one that had supposedly been its mate, had put up far more of a fight than this arrogant blowhard. Damn it, how was she ever going to get stronger if her opponents insisted on dying from a simple opening salvo?!
"Well, you know, 'Witches' usually have very bad reputations. And they have to prefer children for a good reason. I guess villagers do tend to get very creative to escape their mundane chores," Kishi muttered under his breath, still sitting sullenly against his tree. He had kept his eyes closed the whole time while mentally counting down the time needed for his spell to wear off so that he could react as soon as he stopped glowing.
"Now that you mention it, no. I've always identified it by its spiritual signature and it usually knows when I refer to it," he answered as his sprite zipped about in the air before him. As an afterthought, he added, "it doesn't have a gender either. Referring to my guardian spirit as an 'it' does seem rather awkward. I wonder why no one back home have ever thought about it..."
His attention shifted back to what the 'witch' was saying. 'She' sounded pleasant enough though he was quite curious about the extent of 'her' powers and knowledge know. He was quite convinced that this 'Witch' would make a great addition to House Twilight even as an associate only. "Have you ever wished to see the outside world? There are many interesting things and creatures out there. Things are always changing and I can promise that it is not boring at all."

█RP Character Name:Kai Merah █Race: Chimera █Class:█Warrior:►+1 points to Body for every 4 skill points dropped █Elements: █Body:► 50/100 █Level:► 5 [12/12]
Kai spent the rest of the day roaming, fighting whatever she could find and eating the corpses of her latest opponent whenever she got hungry. Towards the late afternoon, Kai found a little cave that smelled of sphinx, but was quite empty. She supposed she must have killed the inhabitants at some point during the day. Kai found herself quite disappointed by the quality of opponents she'd been able to find in the forest thus far. None seemed like they would help her get strong enough to defeat the wolf man.
She decided that she would nap in the cave for the rest of the day, then go out prowling to see if anything more dangerous showed up after dark. She needed to get stronger and defeat that wolf man before she could dare face her owners again. Best to regain her strength before she resumed the hunt. Kai shut her eyes and fell into a light doze.
It was a strange music that woke her. High, piping trills of flute and pipe, the merry chiming of bells, and the rapid, staccato rhythm of drums. And over it all, was the sound of voices raised in song.
Something niggled at the back of Kai's brain, but she ignored it. Those sounded like... elves. Her owners had liked to see her playing with elves. Perhaps if she played well enough, inventively enough with these, she might avoid the worst of her punishment for being weak enough to get kicked around by that wolf man.
Silently, Kai prowled out of her little den, placing each paw carefully so it wouldn't betray her and cause her prey to flee, while her eyes glowed like lamps in the darkness. There. That clearing. That was where the sounds of merry-making were coming from.
Kai grinned and crept nearer, already salivating at the idea of how she would play with this special, most favoured of prey, how she would make them beg, and cry, and scream, twist them into bloodied works of artistry to make her owners proud of her.
And then she crept close enough to see the gathering past the screen of bushes, and froze as if turned to stone.
It was a simple enough affair. Forest elves, laughing in the moonlight, and gilded by the small camp fire in the centre of the clearing, treading the light-footed dances of their fairy revels, as fauns capered and clapped upon their drums, and satyrs played a haunting tune on their panpipes. Food was scattered on roughspun cotton cloths around the clearing, all manner of cheeses and sweet pastries and clay pitchers of elderberry wine and dandelion cordial. Little elven children ran around, trying to imitate the dances of their elders and inventing little dances of their own as they chattered like birds and jumped over and around the fire.
After all the dances and revelry and general merry-making came the individual performances which all gathered to watch. One man played on his harp a song so melancholic that one felt as if one's heart might break, and another told a story that soon had his audience roaring with laughter. There were jugglers, acrobats, more musicians, even the children contributed with a little skit of their own.
And all the while, Kai only watched, unable to move, to think, barely able to breathe, simply watching and listening, frozen like a statue even as the gathering ended and the elves packed up what remained of the food and faded away into the forest. There was an odd ringing in her ears and Kai was struck with an overwhelming sense of familiarity that verged, teetering on the edge of actual memory...
Then Kai howled, a soul-shattering sound of pain, and loss, and fury, and tore into the long-abandoned clearing, a hell beast of bristling fur and fang that ripped great gouges from the earth with her claws and savaged the remains of the long-dead campfire, before bolting into the woods to hunt down and destroy every single elf that had been in that clearing.
But she had been frozen too long, and though she searched high and low, brutally smashing any tree or bush that even looked as if it might hide an elf, the trail was too cold and she could not find a single one of them.
She returned to the ruined remnants of the clearing, staggering like a drunkard, and collapsed there, flanks heaving beneath her sweat-soaked fur, with torn sod and upturned earth all around her. She was in agony though there was not a mark on her, and she had no idea why.
Hours later, a familiar scent on the breeze made her raise her head; her first voluntary movement since she'd succumbed in despair to her own misery and self-loathing.
"Mistress..." she whispered, and dragged herself slowly, and painfully, to her knees.
She was just in time, as her mistress entered the clearing, coolly surveying the destruction before her eyes lighted upon the pathetic sight of Kai's emaciated form. "There you are. Now, what on earth has gotten you into this state, pet?"
Kai raised her head leadenly, her voice a dull mutter. "I failed you, mistress." Slowly, she told her mistress exactly how she had failed as a pet of the family, knowing she couldn't hide anything from her owners. She deserved to be punished for her weakness, for being a Bad Pet. It was for her own good.
"I see," her mistress murmured, and Kai flinched as she laid a hand on Kai's head, but it was only to rub gently at the chimera's ears. Kai's head sank even lower in shame. She was not worthy of her mistress' kindness.
"There there, there there," her mistress murmured, patting Kai's head. "No need to be so despondent. We have been watching, you know, and I am pleased at your honesty. Do not worry about the Fagus, it is not a foe you can defeat at present, and you conducted yourself well enough in your fight against it, as well as your efforts to improve afterwards. As for whatever temporary madness kept you from harming those elves... Well, it has passed now, has it not? And as soon as it did, you sought to destroy the ones who had infected you with such sentimentality. Good Kai, very good," she crooned. "Tell me again who you are, Kai."
"I am the Kai Merah, mistress," Kai answered obediently, a tiny glimmer of hope rising in her chest that perhaps she might not have failed her owners so terribly after all. "I am a pet of the family."
"And what does a pet do for her family, Kai?"
"I serve. I obey. I exist to please the family, mistress, and nothing brings me greater joy than to do the family's will." Kai's eyes were burning with sincerity, with her complete and utter belief in her purpose. The family created her, gave her her name, her purpose, her identity, her everything. Kai would rather die than disappoint them. They were her own personal gods whom she loved and feared in equal measure.
Her mistress weighed her, judging the strength of her devotion, then smiled. and Kai felt her heart leap. "Very good," she repeated. "I believe you will do quite nicely. It is time for you to serve, Kai."
The chimera trembled with eagerness. "What must I do?"

Kai bounded through the trees in the shape of a great coursing hound the size of a horse, intent on carrying out the mission her mistress had entrusted to her. As the family's loyal pet, she had been given authority over those of lesser rank in the great House of Chaos, and was to make her way to Caran with all speed in order to take charge of the situation there. It was her honour to ensure the supremacy of the family by scoring a great victory for Chaos. The family had even awarded her a greater measure of power in order to help her do so!
She remembered the moment her mistress had ripped the bone plate from her back, peeling away the flesh beneath with cool, brisk efficiency as Kai whimpered with the agony of it and struggled not to move, not to allow her powers to impede her mistress' work. It was her honour to receive this gift, her honour to stay as still as she could and allow her owner to do whatever she desired to Kai's body. Her mistress had implanted scrolls into Kai's back, spreading them flush against her spine, then healing her so her muscle and skin would grow over the scrolls and keep them safe. They were lesser treasures of the family, these scrolls of Life Essence and Life Link, and her mistress had already explained the abilities they would grant her.
It was to Kai's great shame that she passed out at some point during her mistress' bestowing of the gifts, awaking in the cave where she had first fallen asleep with no sign of her mistress' presence but the blood on the ground, the pouch of gold at her side, and the soreness of her back.
Now she charged through the forest, intent on reaching her destination with all possible haste to fulfill the responsibility entrusted to her, when a sphinx swooped down on her from above the canopy and attempted to take a chunk out of her side.
Kai hissed with sheer annoyance, face going flat and snake-like, and dodged the creature, spitting a spear of fire at it without slowing in the slightest. She had no time to be dealing with such pests when her owners had given her task to perform!

She heard the sphinx's death cry behind her, as well as the sound of its crash. Pathetic creature. Kai poured more speed into her limbs and streaked through the forest as fast as she could. Perhaps if she went fast enough, she might make it out of the place before anything else could happen by to inconvenience her. Not everything would be dealt with as easily as that sphinx after all. Her mistress had made it clear that time was of the essence. Kai couldn't afford any unnecessary delays.

Racing through the forest appeared to have worked. At any rate, nothing appeared to challenge her as she made her way to Usank, and Kai’s grin was distinctly vulpine as she spied the city hidden in the trees towering high above her. With a shriek of glee and triumph at having managed to get through the forest with no other delays, a pair of huge, scythe-like wings unfurled from Kai’s back and hurled her into the air. She clawed and ripped through the wind, steadily ascending higher and higher, until the vast branches that supported Usank surrounded her. She was a step closer to her destination.

The forest opened up the further away from Usank Gale flew through the trees, grateful that whatever had sped through the city had cleared out the forest well enough for him to go unhindered. There had been rumors of conflict in the area lately, and Gale really just wanted to live his life as peacefully as he could after so long as his Tribe's battle slave. He drifted to the ground easily, his large wings keeping him suspended until his claws sank into the dirt.
Gale had nearly gotten to the grove where the herbs he needed grew when a rustling drew his attention away from the path.
"What do you think you're doing here, crow." A human asked, stepping out of the forest with an old looking machete in hand. "Here to prey on the creatures that inhabit the forest like your kind always does?" The human looked down at the claws of Gale's feet, sneering as the Harpie shifted uncomfortably at the accusation.
"You know not what you speak of, Human." Gale said, hoping he could avoid the conflict if it was possible. "I wish only to harvest some herbs to dry. I have never unnecessarily taken a life in this forest, and I don't wish to start with yours."
The crazed human let out a bark of a laugh, taking a half step forward. "Well, then I'm just going to have to make sure you never do. The world must be protected from you vultures." The machete swung through the air with surprising speed, catching the Harpie on the arm before he had time to fully dodge.
Gale hissed as the alarmingly sharp blade cut a deep gash, blood already spilling down his arm as his other hand whipped back to yank the Scythe off his back. "You have made a mistake, human." He said, the blade of his scythe slicing through the flimsy metal of the machete as though it were paper. The human had the dignity to look surprised before the curved scythe hooked around her shoulder, slicing through the tendons that held her arm up. Blood spilled from the gaping wound as the human shrieked and fell to her knees, holding her shoulder and arm together with her other hand before Gale dealt another sweeping blow that put the poor soul out of her misery.
"I am sorry we had to meet like this. May you rest in peace." Gale said, wiping the blood off of his blade before he turned back to the clearing of herbs. He stooped down to pick up the human's few belongings, figuring they would do her no good now, stowing the few coins and the small potion she had in his satchel. He left the body and walked towards the grove, choosing not to think of what would become of the woman.

ooc//: ( I didn't know how much a normal attack impacted the stamina, so I just figured it would be the same cost as magic would be, only physical. so for every 2 damage, 1 stamina point? )
Gale breathed in the deep, earthy scent of the clearing, glad to be away from the metallic smell of blood that was soaking into the ground behind him. He looked around carefully for the plants he needed, finding a bush of Thyme tucked next to a flowering rose bush. He filled his satchel with the two, pulling up some of the Thyme plants completely so he could plant them closer to his hut.
Jamie giggled at the glowing koroki's explanation. "I assure you, a child is not required for sacrificial rituals. Any creature will do in most cases." Jamie plucked a sharp blade of grass from the ground and began fiddling with it. The bright light was beginning to irritate his eyes, despite the distance that still separated the two. He dropped the blade of grass and stood, turning away from garish light. "Perhaps you should give her a name, I've sure she'd like that." Jamie suggested, assigning the sprite a gender despite just being told that it didn't have one.
Jamie remained silent for a few seconds after being asked about the outside world. "I have traveled beyond the boundaries of Sayatea a few times. Mostly to locate a rare ingredient that couldn't be found in Usank." the witch took a few steps towards his clothes that still rested on the bank of the stream. "I am due for supply restock." Jamie looked over his shoulder at the blur of light that hid the koroki, "I could show you the way if you like."
Gale had moved on to more uncommon flowers to turn into incense when another rustle pulled his attention away. "I wish not to fight." he said, expecting another zealot human, only to meet eyes with a glowing Cervisong, studying him from the bushes. The creature approached hesitantly, nostrils flared to scent the various plants the Harpie had gathered. Gale reached a hand slowly into his pouch and pulled out a small rose bud, offering it to the creature as a sign of peace. The deer took another step forward and sniffed the petals before nibbling the red flower up out of Gale's palm. The Harpie smiled, running a hand through the harmless fire of the creature's mane. "I mean no harm to you. I wish only to live in peace." The Cervisong regarded him slowly, the creature's intelligent eyes locking with the Harpie's.
The Cervisong remained in the grove with Gale as he continued to harvest, satisfied once he had filled two small satchels with various herbs and flowers. The creature's eyes followed the Harpie intently as he worked, but the company didn't make Gale uncomfortable. He had always been far more at ease around animals than the rest of his tribe, and animals likewise comfortable around him. Gale was so entrenched in his work that he didn't even notice the armored Larva chitinous form climb down the tree in front of him until a panicked bleat sounded from the Cervisong behind him, the beast charging forward and lashing its razor tail at the insect.
Gale reached for his scythe and swung hastily, but the insect's talons knocked the blade away before it could even scratch it, charging forward to sink it's jaw into Gale's shoulder before it skittered back, the Cervisong's flaming mane intimidating it sufficiently to drive it away as the deer stood in front of him.
Gale fell to his knees behind the Cervisong, reaching for the health potion he had found on the Human earlier desperately and swigging it down.
╔═════════════ 'She seems awfully familiar with sacrificial rituals,' Kishi thought to himself. "A name...What would you like to be called?" he asked out loud to the spirit whirling around his head. He had been tempted to call it 'bugger' to get back at it, but seeing that they still had to bear with each others' presence for the next few decades, playing nice would be better. "I don't think it has a gender so something more gender neutral..."
His guardian didn't appear to know what to answer however. The concept of having names were unique to creatures who could not differentiate themselves any other ways so it gave its equivalent of a shrug. "How about, Nox?"
He felt an appreciative hum in the back of his mind and took it as the newly christened guardian's agreement. "Well then, Nox, it would be rude for me to keep up this one sided conversation without our host especially if she is willing to be kind enough to lead us out." The spell around him had started to dim and Kishi slowly opened his eyes to finally have a good look at this 'witch'. He could only see 'her' back and looked away while 'she dressed'. "That would be great. Traveling alone has become dangerous as of late. I would rather be with someone who knew where they are going to avoid any unnecessary turns."
"Kishi Yoruno, by the way. What shall I refer to you as? Calling someone 'witch' isn't very nice."
A sudden cry not too far from interrupted the pleasant mood Kishi had been in and made him pull out his dagger from his messenger bag. Nox was faster than him however, and had already disappeared in the direction the sound had come from.
When he finally caught up to his guardian, Kishi was greeted with the sight of an injured harpy and a furious deer-like creature keeping a giant insect at bay though barely. The Koroki took a second to assess the situation and another to leap at the aggressive insect.
The larva whirled around to face Kishi, but his tiny stature allowed him to evade the creature's charge and sink his dagger into its belly and slicing it open. He must have hit vital organs however as the creature gave one last shriek before collapsing, unmoving.
"Fancy one of your kind here," Kishi commented once he made sure the creature was dead and turned to face the injured harpy.

Description: Surround opponent by a dense cloud of darkness that is immune to wind. In other words, it cannot be displaced or dispersed by conventional means. It is ever expanding and will only die out if there is not more MP for it to leech. Oddly enough, anyone outside of the smoke can see into it without problem. Decreases Hit chance by 3 of all parties standing in the smoke. Light magic is the only kind that can dispel it and to do so, it must be a spell that uses twice the amount of MP that this spell used to be casted (so 20MP) Something needs to be done about how one can escape the cloud. Roll with Dodge rate? Spend stamina?
█ Curses [ Crowd Control ] █► New category I just made up because it doesn't fit anything @_@ Name:Shadow Sink Element: Dark Cost to cast:۞۞۞ Description: Turns target's shadow(if shadow is not cast onto something living) into a sort of 1 foot deep tar pit and lock them into place. May trap more than one person. Shadows touching target's shadow may also be affected. Cannot be used in complete darkness. One may use up 30 Stamina to break free. Inflicts "Trapped" status (Unable to dodge any attack, but still able to buff/block.)
