Athena stared at Ialo. "...'It'? What is it? What're you gonna destroy? What does a Fountain have to do with anything? Is that what our school was named after?" Okay, so maybe the last sentence was a bit random, but that's Athena. She just spouted off her entire thought stream there.

"It," Ialo hissed, "is going to be the death of me, one way or another." He glared at his students, and decided to begin with the easy question first. "Yes, this school is named for that Fountain."

He sighed and crossed his arms, and leaned against the wall. His head hurt from Riser picking him up like that.

"Because, Danni, unlike you..." Well, that was dangerous, he had no idea what other sorts of things she had seen, but he would press on.

"Unlike you, I was here five years ago when Setsuka was Headmistress. She massacred... murdered a hundred students... as a sacrifice to the Elders who created the Fountain." Ialo's eyes had become hollow and haunted. Just recounting these memories was causing him to shake.

"And then some... There was a boy in the class below me, Devin. He was sixteen, and a genius. He could defeat Deep Blue in less than an hour. He... He was the one... who stood up... and said that he was going to fight back. He... died. " His fists were clenched so tightly that his knuckles were white.

"Kurt Edmond... I think... If it weren't for Setsuka, he would have been Headmaster. He was the boss. Everyone... everyone went to him. He stood up and fought, and he's dead too. They both..."

Ialo went silent for a minute, before speaking again.

"When people fight for this Fountain, they die. I had a plan.... I had destroyed every book in the library that even mentioned the Fountain. I... I was going back, making sure I would be the only one left who knew what it was, where it was... And then when I died, it would all be over."

He looked up at Riser. That had been the hole in his plan - those who would outlive him, who could figure out how to get the Fountain.

"If I could fight, and be the last one to ever.. ever have to die for that damned thing... I would do it. And I would make it so that no children would ever be caught up in this s**t and killed."

"I lived... and I hate it. I didn't deserve to be one of the ones to live."

Meanwhile, at the front doors of Mystic Fountain, Georgia Saffron tapped her foot, shifting on her skyscraper heels and wondering why the hell no one was answering the door.

With a soft sigh, she smoothed her hands over her skirt, then decided she was better off inside, where someone might actually notice her.

Honestly, if you were going to hire a new teacher, the least you could do was have someone to greet her at the door.

With a frustrated roll of her eyes, she pushed open the heavy doors, and was more than a little miffed to find the halls bare of even a single slack-off student who could've directed her to the Headmaster's office.

Accepting the fact that she would have to find it for herself, she began walking down a random hall, reading the labels on all the doors. From her open purse, a strange neon purple creature crawled up the strap and onto her arm, perching itself on her shoulder. It had butterfly wings and the body of a small calf, spotted with neon pink polka-dots. It was only about six inches in height, and let out little high-pitched mooing/chirping sounds while a pink-tufted tail swung back and forth.

"I know, Milo, I'm lost too." Yes, the purple and pink butterfly-cow was a male. Poor thing. When she came to an unmarked door and heard voices behind it, she sighed in relief and pushed this one open as well, knocking once on the door jam.

"Excuse me, can anyone-" She cut off abruptly when she discovered that she'd come in through the side door of the kitchens. And there, sitting at a table laden with empty liquor bottles and picture albums, were Cook and Sly, sobbing as they looked at Danni's baby pictures and rocking back and forth with their arms around each other's shoulders.

Their voices were raised in a cliched version of Danny Boy, and in front of each of them was a glass of whiskey, with the bottle sitting between them.

Without another word, Georgia backed up the way she'd come, shutting the door quietly. The two men didn't seem to notice.

"...What were we thinking, Milo?" She asked, and hurried on down the hall, shaking her head.

"That's bullshit." Danni's voice was hard, cold as ice and unforgiving as she looked at him with something close to disgust.

"Did you really manage to delude yourself that it would all end if you just died? Damn it, I tried that, remember?! But it doesn't end. It Never. ********. Ends! It just goes onto the next unsuspecting person. That's all it would do, you moron! It doesn't stop just because your heart does!" She scowled, and her eyes blazed with righteous fury at his stupidity.

"Eventually, someway, somehow, someone would find out about the Fountain again, and maybe that person wouldn't be so determined to save people. That next person could fail, and then the s**t would really hit the frigging fan! Hell, anyone with a smidgen of a connection to spirits could figure it out! Don't tell me you haven't noticed the earthbound spirits wandering around here!" She shot her fist out, slammed it into the wall so that her power blew through her palm, cracking the wall.

"Students, bloody and battered, wandering about, lost, because something's been left unfinished! I saw that, my first day here I saw them and I knew there was something here! But I didn't want anything to do with it, it was none of my concern when I had my own battles to fight! But now it's my business, because it hurts you, damn it! It hurts you, so I have to help fix it!" She shook her head, her eyes derisive.

"And it would never, never end with you. Think about all the people, and yes, all the students, the teachers that you've touched simply by existing. Do you think any of us would hesitate to pick up a sword or staff to protect this place you've worked so hard to build? We're not one lone student who had the balls to stand up, Ialo. We're a damned mass of a clan. You made us a family, and now you're just going to have to deal with the consequences of that." She said, her tone final.

Athena hadn't known what to say after Ialo's spiel, and she was very glad that Danni did. She stood--figuratively--behind Danni, almost word-for-word. "She's right," Athena said. Her voice, for once in her life, was rather quiet. She was serious about this. "Whatever you think, Ialo... whatever has happened in your mind to make this seem like it would just... just disappear... I'm sorry. I'm here, though. I want to help. I want to help you, to help Danni, to help this school in any way I can. And..." She glanced off to the side. "I can help get more help, too. If this is a war," and her voice rose back to its normal decible, "I can provide your reinforcements. After all, my godfather is Adolf, and he is over two thousand years old. He knows many people who owe him favors."

((Secret, I love you. I really do. As does Santa.))

Danni smiled fiercely, slinging an arm over Athena's shoulders. "And I've got demons. Lots and lots of demons. Many who'd make Mirror b***h, or whatever her name is, look like a pesky little dust mote in your eye in comparison. Which reminds me, I need the paperwork to drop out of Mystic Fountain. I meant to get to that before the whole Mirror b***h situation popped up." She said, scratching her chin.

((I love you too biggrin ))

Athena smirked, but then turned her head to stare at Danni. "Wait, dropping out? You--never mind, but you'll have to tell me this later. You--HOLY HELL, YOU JUST APPEARED OUT OF NOWHERE. YOU WERE DEAD, BUT NOW YOU'RE NO--I'll celebrate later..." This was probably NOT the right place to be freaking out about random little things. Shaking her head slightly, she looked back at Ialo, her own arm now slung across Danni's shoulders as well. "I'll even make Dust. All you need to do is ensure that no battle happens close to or on the New Moon. That is a yokai's weakest time."

"Yeah, I live and breathe. Who'da thought it?" She said with a quick grin.

Ialo groaned, slid down the wall, and buried his face in his hands. He was moved, honestly, by how fervently Danni and Athena wanted to help him. But he couldn't let them. They would get hurt, and his students getting hurt.... that was the last thing he wanted. It really was. They had their whole lives ahead of them, and they were insisting on fighting for him, against Setsuka.

"... There's so much you should know," he finally said.
PostPosted: Sun Apr 04, 2010 6:16 pm

"Then tell us." Danni said, squatting down beside him, her face blank of anything. "If there's things we should know, then let us know before we go into this clueless and at a disadvantage right from the start." She said, reaching out and placing a hand on his shoulder.

Athena followed suit, sitting next to him, the opposite side as Danni. "Please tell us," she said. Her voice quieted down again, and she tilted her head to look at him, curling up her knees and resting her head on them. "All we can do is help. I doubt we'll hinder. I... I want to fight with you."
PostPosted: Sun Apr 04, 2010 6:28 pm

"Yeah, what she-" She cut off suddenly, her mouth hanging open for a moment as the voice filled her head.

"Tick tock, my little shadow, your time's just run out. Thinking you could hide from me, how foolish you must think us both. I know you're there, inside that school, and exactly where I'll soon know. The time has come to face your fate, and I look forward to toasting your death with a glass of your blood. Foolish, foolish child. You just couldn't have stayed dead. Say your prayers, Shadow Runner...as though anyone up there would ever help you." Her blood ran cold, and she shuddered once before she forced her body to still.

Well, s**t. Satan was calling, and he wasn't pleased. Yeah, she definitely needed those forms. "But before you tell us, how about those forms, Ialo, my buddy and pal?" She said, jumping to her feet again, pacing in front of him.

"... You're not going to change your minds," Ialo mumbled. "You're just like us."

There really was so much that they needed to know, but he couldn't say. He looked up.

"Now THAT is where I draw the line. The safest place for you is here, ironically. For that, I can't let you withdraw. Besides."

Oh, he was just cruel.

"I'd need the signature of your legal guardian. That's not me, by the way. And you're not eighteen."

Danni stared at him for a moment, and even as she did Eldest shot down to the basement, genuine panic in his eyes as he stood across the room.

"He's found you. Somehow or another, he's found you. The fates are calling. I can't stop this, Isadora." He said, lifting his palms in a gesture of helplessness.

Danni merely stared, her gaze shooting from Ialo to Eldest and back between the two again. She swore viciously.

"I don't ******** have time to deal with Satan! Are you sure?" She demanded, and Eldest nodded.

"I'd have spared you this," He began, but she glared, cutting him off.

"No, you wouldn't have. Damn it, why do you think I wanted those forms? He's coming here. HERE, for Christ's sake! Just like Mirror b***h did, and this guy won't care who gets in his way, he'll smite you with a damned look!" She began pacing again, practically ripping her hair out.

"Ok...All right...I'll just...not drop out. Easy enough." On a moment of desperate panic, and a need to protect what she'd already come so close to losing, Danni turned, grinning at Ialo.

"I'm leaving, Headmaster. Feel free to label me a truant. I'll be back...with my neck still attached to the rest of my body, God willing. I've decided I really, really hate prophecies. You do your thing with Mirror b***h, let Athena help you. I have to...go fight Satan. Mine sounds much cooler, by the way." She added, and without a word, she summoned up a portal.

"Death Valley." It was suitable enough, she decided as the portal sucked her up. Someone would die there, tonight, and if God were kind (yeah right) it wouldn't be her. Here's to hoping.

By the time Ialo's initial paralyzing realization passed, he was too late. He had leapt up and reached to grab Danni, to stop her from going, but she had slipped into a portal. He almost followed her. He had barely brushed the back of her shirt before he was forced to watch her disappear.

It infuriated him. It just flat out infuriated him, to see her go. She finally back, and... ugh. His eyes flashed red as he leaned back against the wall.

So now he was in the basement of the school with a teenage hanyou, a Fallen God with a claim on his life, an Ancient, and a Silverwing who had spent a hundred years in another dimension while dead for a few months here. And he was a clinically depressed dragon.

No, this wasn't strange at all.

Out of habit, he looked at Kai, hoping he'd have an answer - and avoided Riser's gaze, because any interaction with Riser was sure to lead to something unpleasant.

"So, Satan knows," Ialo stated hoarsely. "I suppose that means Setsuka was quick to rat us out." Score five for stating the obvious. His thoughts were too wild and turbulent to care, or to realize his position was perfectly reversed from minutes earlier. He had a very long list of things to do now. Number one, secure the school for attack. Number two, at least inform Athena of what was happening.

Three, live.
