IosefKoranison Chibi Halo KaguraSakata Chibi Halo Just got home from Star Trek: Into Darkness and it is well worth seeing. Lines were non existent and seats were easy to come by but still get your tickets ahead of time because your theater might not be like my local theater. One thing I advise you when seeing this movie, throw everything you know about a certain space epic with a certain actor with a love for fine Corinthian leather out the window and enjoy this one for the thrill ride it provides.
They threw things out about characters in the first one I'm not surprised they did it again. these new Star Trek movies are essentially AU anyways. They do give a good enough reason for reworking the canon set up by the Original Series in the first JJ Abrams movie. However, there's a very pivotal scene in both movies, the one alluded to and this new one, that if you think Abrams would play it out exactly the same the second time around you'd be sorely mistaken. I liked that they made a reference to a classic Original Series episode with the Tribble that appeared in the film. My only disappointment was that at my theater they didn't show the little "commercial" that was going to play before the movie in certain places.
I threw out what I knew before I saw the first reboot. But there are things here and there that point to the old, thankfully. The Enterprise looks kind of like how it would have if they made The Original Series now. The shuttlecraft DEFINITELY do. And some of the lines or other little nods to the fans. I'm going to go see it tomorrow with my dad and I'm SO excited for it. Benedict Cumberbatch? Yum. Zachary Quinto? Woooo! Just... so much looks good in this movie. I also saw some interviews with the cast where the lady that plays Uhura mentioned them having to make an alliance with John Harrison? But I might have misheard that. And I'm really curious about the GIANT BLACK STARSHIP that looks like the Enterprise only different. SO MANY QUESTIONS! Your ears did not mislead you on that one. Yes they make an alliance but why they do is something I can't say without giving away too much. And is it silly of me to say I was more excited to see Karl Urban doing Leonard McCoy again. Mostly it's because the character of Leonard McCoy is supposed to be Kirk's conscience where Spock is one hundred by the book logic and reasoning and I was really looking forward to seeing how they pulled it off in this second movie.

Yeah. The character dynamics are excellent. And personally, I love the whole UhuraXSpock relationship. I think it works. One upside is that when the Pon Farr comes around Spock won't have to go back to Vulcan. But augh it's not even 10 in the morning, my time. I'm going crazy having to wait.

I love how they use that to play around with the fact that Vulcans are devoid of emotion and that Spock is half human and following in his father's footsteps when it comes to his choice in who he loves. It also changes up the Uhura character a bit because she's no longer the token female anymore. She has strong reasons for doing a lot of the things she chooses to do and a lot of them center around her love for Spock.

Yes, exactly! And in the first movie, Uhura backed Kirk up when he talked about the lightning storm in space and the Klingon transmission. If he hadn't overheard her making small talk about that, and she hadn't backed him up, things could have gone badly. They made her character important.

And they really play up that importance in the new movie. On top of that, they show us how a Vulcan in love deals with relationship issues. Plus, with, as Spock said in the first movie, Vulcans now being an endangered species that relationship is going to be very important if Vulcans are to survive as a people.

I'm not what you'd call a Trekkie but Into Darkness was a damn fun movie and I'm really liking how JJ Abrams is working his alternate Trek universe. Plus, the depth of character he's giving the iconic Trek characters people know and love with how he's expanding on what people know from the Original Series and the movies that followed is really intriguing to me.

I never could get into "Trek". It always felt a bit too out there to me. Besides, those old episodes with William Shatner as Kirk are just another reminder of why I don't like shows from several decades ago. It's the "overacting" that annoys me. I know things changed when both Picard and Kirk were out of the picture and the whole series took on a new feel, but then it was too much like some space drama. The whole feel of the show completely jumped into left field. *shrug* I guess it just doesn't interest me. Now, Star Wars was ok. However, I'm not too keen on this "Episode 7" dribble. Personally, I think they should just leave it as is and try to delve further. It just feels like another franchise bid to me. Chibi Halo Celestine Ravencroft Eh, that would explain it. Well Disney owns it now so of course they are gonna milk it don't be surprised if they turn Mickey and the others into star wars characters for Disney product placement.

Are you kidding me the UhuraxSpock thing is terrible! They ruined her character for me in the first one. Sure now the Vulcans are endangered or what ever, I just cant' get my head around them being together, It just doesn't feel right, Spock was never really into getting with a women unless something was messing with him ie Pon far or that pollen, he took the Vulcan emotionless thing to an extreme, while there were moments of his human side showing through that was not one of them.. I really just can't get around of some things that have been changed in these movies. And I realize the timeline has been seriously messed with, but still I just do not care for these new movies, I like the old one's the best to me the best movie's will always be the Wrath of Khan and the Voyage home.

Somehow, it would not surprise me. Either way, I'm not going to waste my money at the theater. I'll save that $6.50 for something better. Renon21 Celestine Ravencroft Now, Star Wars was ok. ASFSFADSFS WHY. WHY MUST YOU TORTURE ME. YOU WANT TO KILL ME, DON'T YOU! gonk On a side note, they haven't really done that to Marvel yet, soooo... Ugh. I'm so one the fence about 7. On the one hand, it couldn't possibly be as stale as the prequels, especially given Chibi's remarks on what Abrams has done with Star Trek. But on the other hand, there is Star Wars: The Clone Wars-- a movie and animated series based on a period of time with already-established canon which the writers and producers shot up to hell. Sure TCW was a decent series, but how hard was it for those in charge to do some freakin' research and at least use already-established stuff instead of making up and retconning so much!? I refuse to acknowledge TCW as canon. emotion_donotwant I hope 7 doesn't do the same.
