Pale Grasspink and Taneko
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Nickname: Ari
Likes: People she knows, animals (as long as they don't try to eat her), drawing, getting/giving presents.
Dislikes: Getting scared, people who laugh at her, people who talk bad about the people she likes.
Personality: Pale Grasspink is pretty shy, but she's very loyal. She is fiercely devoted to her friends and will go through a lot of trouble to help them. On the other hand, she can be a bit cruel at times when she blatanly doesn't care about something.

"Welcome to my journal!"
*gets a mean stare from Calypso*
"Ahem, Welcome to our journal! Feel free to look around, and follow along in the life of my plant and plant-sprite!"

"You forgot beautiful, stunning, intelligent, beautiful..."
"You said beautiful twice..."
"Well... I'm just THAT beautiful!"
"Ha ha... well... now you've met Pale Grasspink, or 'Calypso', feel free to look around!"
"Just be carefull not to mess up anything... I hate messy people!"
"Ha ha... don't take her too seriously! We're really not that mean! You should come join us one day in the North Greenhouse!"

1. Don't write in this journal under ANY circumstances.
2. The only people that rule DOESN'T count for would be
Songjewel and any other staff of GVGS.
3. If you're delivering a gift of some sort, I believe you should
deliver it in North Abour Greenhouse and Grounds,
as that is where Calypso is anchored.
4. More to come as I see fit ^_^

Entering the greenhouse, you had looked around. It was a very nice place, and the plants were really charming. You noticed a single table that was not filled with plants, the only thing there was a thick brown book. Getting curious, you walked over to the book, only to notice that it was a journal of some sort. On the cover, in curly writing, it was written: "Taneko and Pale Grasspink's Journal". You looked around to see if anybody could see you. Satisfied with seeing nobody, you opened the book to the first page...

The first page was filled with information on some sort of person. But what was this? The picture was of a... pink... thing... peculiar! Very peculiar indeed! Fascinated, you continue reading

    User Image
    Name: Pale Grasspink.
    Full name: Calopogon pallidus.
    Nickname(s): Calypso
Age: Actually younger, but seems to be 10-12 years.
Discovered: November 23 2006 (Kitten was her care-taker before that)
    Gender: Female.
Height: About half a human head tall.
    Weight: VERY light.
    Eyes: Blue/violet.
    Hair: Bright pink, quite short.
    Skin color: Very light pink.
Personality: Calypso is quiet and calm in situations that she isn't used to. Overall, she is a nice and friendly sprite and she enjoys talking with other sprites. She has heard stories about how some sprites fight with each other, and she wishes that they could all just get along. Although this would normally classify her as charming and sweet, she will still get snippy, sarcastic and annoying if she doesn't get her way.

Well, that was certainly... interesting. Although you really didn't get why there was a picture of some little pink... thing. The next page, however, is much easier to comprehend. Obviously, the owner of this book has written a profile on herself.

    Skin: Slightly tanned.
    Class: Archer/Magic

    Favourites:
Flower: Orchids and Spring Snowflakes (Leucojum vernum)
    Color: Black and Green
Food: She was originally a vegitarian, but as she left the elfin kingdom, and therefor had her main food source cut off, she started eating meat to survive. She is especially fond of blueberry pie and churros.

Flipping the page, you finally seem to find some useful information. These few pages had obviously been filled with all sorts of information on the Pale Grasspink Orchid. Facinated, you continue reading the rest of the written information.

    User ImageBasic Info
    Common Name: Pale Grasspink Orchid
    Scientific Name: Calopogon pallidus
Origin of Name:The generic name is from Greek and means "beautiful beard", referring to the cluster of hairs adorning the labellum.
Habitat: Terrestrial in moist, open, acidic bogs, prairies, pine woods, and roadsides
    Blooming: March-July
General: compared to its cousin (Calopogon tuberosus), this species bears smaller and slenderer flowers (typically one inch/2.5 cm tall) on a slender, wiry spike. While most typically a pale pink, pure white and deep pink forms are seen occasionally. Unlike its larger cousin, these flowers are often lightly fragrant. The plant consists of a small, whitish subterranean corm giving rise to a single plicate, grass-like leaf (sometimes more than one leaf in var. simpsonii) which clasps basally the flowering stem, capped with one to three flowers. The flowers use a unique mechanism to achieve pollination. Mid-way up the lip, they bear a tuft of orange-yellow hairs that resembles the pistils and stamens of typical bogland flowers, while the base of the lip is jointed. The pollinators, deceived by this ruse, land on this tuft, their weight triggering the lip to flex downward along its joint and to drop them onto the column arching below.

    The Built

The basic orchid flower is composed of three sepals in the outer whorl, and three petals in the inner whorl. The medial petal is usually modified and enlarged (then called the labellum or lip), forming a platform for pollinators near the center of the corolla. Together, except the lip, they are called tepals.
Labellum (or Lip): A part of an orchid that serves to attract insects that will pollinate the flower, and acts as a landing platform for those insects. The labellum is a modified petal and can be distinguished from the other petals and from the sepals by its large size and its often irregular shape. It is not unusual for the other two petals of an orchid flower to look like the sepals, so that the labellum stands out as distinct.
Sepal: an individual unit of the calyx of a flower. In a "typical" flower the sepals are green and lie under the more conspicuous petals. When the flower is in bud, the sepals enclose and protect the more delicate floral parts within.
Petal: Regarded as a highly modified leaf, is one member or part of the corolla of a flower. The corolla is the name for all of the petals of a flower.

Tips on buying a healthy orchid

    1. Check and see how firm the plant is in the pot, if it is shaky and not firm then chances are it is either been recently repotted or it has a bad root system. If it has been recently repotted check the mix, you may want to replace it for something more suitable for orchids, even thou the plant is in bloom. Sphagnum moss is often used to pot the orchids in for shipping and if it it packed to tightly in the pot it can cause problems. Some times the mix can rot your roots very quickly since it does not dry out.

    2. The pseudobulbs should be fat and plump. Beware of the shriveled pseudobulbs.

    3. The leaves should be firm. Leaves that are limp or crinkled like an according are indications that the plant may have been exposed to excessively cold temperatures or lack of water due to no root system or just not being watered correctly. Are the leaves brown or have spots? This is an indication of exposure to excessive sunlight or high temperatures. On many of the orchids make sure the center leaf is still growing and there is not damage to the crown of the orchid. This damage can result in crown rot and the orchid will die.

    4. Is the foliage damaged? Look under the paper wrapper if it is covering any part of the plant.

    5. Are the plants water logged or swimming in water inside of the paper wrapper? The pretty paper does not have drainage holes. REMOVE this immediately after you get your orchid home.

    6. Is there a sticky substance on the leaves? THE PLANT HAS BUGS! Avoid bug-infested plants.

    7. Are the flowers limp or the buds turning yellow? Are there buds missing? The plant has been stressed too much and will most likely drop all its flowers and buds within a few days no matter what you do for the plant.

    8. Does the plant have a correct label? The label should
say more than just "ORCHID PLANT."

    9. Ask how long the plants have been at the store?

    10. Does the sales person know anything about the orchids and can they give you some information about caring for it?

Well... now you know how to care for an Orchid. Not that you think you'll ever need it. You flip the page and see a page filled with little pictures and a describtion. This seemes VERY un-interesting, but just before you turn the page again, one of the pictures catch your eyes. Wait, this isn't normal people, these are those so-called "sprites" again. Interesting!

    User Image
Ari met this purple/pink sprite for a very short time.
She seemed nice enough, and Ari definately is looking
foward to spending more time with her!

    User Image
Ari met this green sprite very breifly
while everybody was looking for Kitten. She seemed nice,
but Ari didn't get a real impression of this sprite yet.

    User Image
Ari has talked to this sprite for quite some time at the
South Bottom, when both their parents were out looking
for spider spawn. She really likes her. She is her first
actual friend, and she is looking very much forward to
any occasion where they can hang out and just talk
    or play together

    User Image

Ari hasn't met this sprite, but is
    looking foward to meeting her.

It seems like a "My First..." baby book! Milestones...? Come on! Does anybody, besides the doting parent and maybe the child itself, actually care about all those things? Oh well, flipping the page, you see another page filled with little pictures and discriptions. Maybe you'll learn more about those so-called sprites?

    User Image MistyMisty
Misty is Taneko's best friend. She has before been dupped "aunt" of Taneko's other family members, although it's not certain if Misty actually agrees to this. Although fun to be around, Misty can be quite isolated, and it takes some time to get to know her.

    User Image
    Alanti
Alanti is Taneko's newest addition to the family. Not much is known about her yet, but her name Alanti (meaning "Fallen") is supposedly a foreshadowing to who she really is.

    User Image
    Arianna
Arianna is a tiny elfin that is very dear to Taneko. One of her first family members, she resembles Taneko quite much, almost more like a sister than a daughter. She is happy and optimistic, and is faster than even Taneko to climb tree's.

    User Image
    Lemon
Sunshine is cynical and sarcastic. Very much sour like a lemon. Easy to anger and eyes that could kill. Taneko loves this "baby" very much too, and enjoys - to Sunshine's dismay - to annoy the senses out of Sunshine, just for the fun of it. Her best friends are the birds that fly high above her head, reminding her of what her own greatest wish is.

Needed to add; Llew, Adder, Kiona, Gladys and Phoenix.
