I haven't tried making clothes by myself. It's more of a tag team effort right now. See, my mom thinks in terms of shortcuts and I'm still learning the ropes.

You should try making some sort of cosplay.

That's what got me started into sowing. I've done Roy Mustang, Link, Halloween Town Sora (both regular and Christmas versions), Ryoko (Tenchi Muyo), Seto Kaiba, Katsuya Jonouchi, humanoid dragons, and now Neku.

I don't have much access to real books, but I'll look them up online.

If you find the book, there are patterns in there for stuff to make.

I'm not good at making clothes. I can design stuff, but actually making it is a completely different story.

Do you think you could make stuff on a Computer?

There are games that allow you to make clothes and stuff on a Computer.

Second Life is probably the best.

If you don't have a good graphics program/software, you can try getting Gimp/Gimp 2.0.
