Welcome to Gaia! ::

Quietly lurking in the soft corners of Gaia, a race of massive winged felines watches the turning of the world. They have always been here, through the rise and fall of all Breedables and Minishops; amused by the drama and complications, they have long since taken a step back and contented themselves with being observers. Now, however, some of the younger generation have gotten curious about Gaians and their world. Pard parents are having to grit their teeth and watch the little ones take a few new steps, releasing them into the world to make their own way.

Other Important NPC's
  • Zaxzi
The Seer at the Pool, and the overall most respected Elder of all the pards. He is the only pard to have learned all three main branches of magic (this takes a very...very...very long time). Cynical, sarcastic, and bitter-tempered, he is also most likely to do somethign to protect the 'children' under his care. With the gryphon Khalarr, also called the Watcher at the Pool, he acts as the eyes and ears of the infamous Gods of the pard race, keeping tabs on everything of import that goes on. Pride leaders know not to mess with Zaxzi. He is rumored to have a shifter-form, but no one has ever seen it. He lives on the third floor of the Aviarry. (Played by Britain)
  • Vitis Vinifera
The Oracle of this generation of pards. He is young and impetuous, but also wise beyond his years. Currently he resides at the Aviary and annoys the daylights out of Zaxzi. (Played by Orasteele)
  • Mezcal
The Sorceror, who possesses a magic not seen in any other pard in this generation or previous. He is dark and ruthless, and will stop at nothing to achieve his own ends. He is known to have a shifter form, as well. (aka teh Pard Badguy, played by Ogre)
  • LaGarde
Also a shifter, this poor Seer has long been kept as a slave to Mezcal. The chains around his wings actually go through them, peircing feather and bone to prevent him from flying. Though he has had opportunities to run in the past, he has always been found and dragged back...somewhere over the years, he developed a faint, uneasy attraction to his master. He fears Mezcal, but craves his attention as well. The chains bind him no matter what form he asumes. (Played by Britain)
  • Equinox
Summoned by the Gods to assist Zaxzi, this three-headed pard is also a Seer, and has the same strength as Zaxzi himself- even if no one's really told him what to do with it yet. Bad tempered to the extreme. (Played by Syrie)

The Shop Itself...

Situated on the edge of Britain's home in Durem, the Aviary is accesable to every member of Gaia and their various households/children/pets. If you can walk, crawl, or float in the door, you can come into the shop and RP.

The Aviary holds three floors, which Notirai has slowly restored to their full use after years of neglect. Though the Aviary isn't ACTUALLY a tree, it is so surrounded by a few very large ones that they have actually grown into the building, making it appear that it is indeed a tree. Several windows open directly onto branches, good landing areas for pards. Some windows have been blocked by the trees entirely, or even broken and sealed over by intruding branches. The bedrooms that are not taken on the second floor are open for use in times of crisis, storm, or emotional peril. The rooms are as follows:

General Thread Rules

1. Please don't get overly excited if we take a little while with your pard/breeding/tagging. It's a lot of work, and we both have full time jobs! We promise you haven't been forgotten.

2. Pards may NOT be resold once they have hatched, for any reason. They may only be given away if you are leaving Gaia completely.

3. No drama. Leave your issues at the door, this is a happy place. If you have an issue with the staff or the shop itself, send it to a PM for Britain- do NOT start something in the thread. We reserve the right to blacklist you for this; such matters should be handled privately.

4. All of our lineart is (c) Nightmare Jester, Zahra Ovaci, or Orasteele. DO NOT STEAL. Come on, people, pards are one of the oldest shops on Gaia- someone WILL notice.

5. No harassing other owners for any reason- eggs, RP, whatever.

6. When an RP is going on in thread, please use [ brackets ] or (( double parenthesis )) if you are speaking OOC or chatting.

7. Keep it PG-13, and have some respect for the other owners! Don't try to overpower your characters, or control theirs. Brit no likey god-moding.

8. Zaxzi is Pard Elder, and he can AND WILL kick your a** if you give him any trouble. Yes, he talks in cyan just to hurt your eyes. Get over it.

Flatsale Rules

1. Flatsales will ALWAYS start with a GO post, NOT exactly on the minute stated.

2. Flatsale pards cost 10k each, regardless of gender, color, etc. Prices may be raised for magic added, or these traits may be offered as add-ons.

3. Firstcome, first serve speed-sales unless otherwise stated.

4. Don't be a sore loser. better luck next time!

Auction Rules

1. We don't use snipe-guards, but you must express interest at least 20 minutes before the end of the auction. No popping out of the woodwork to snatch pards from dedicated stalkers.

2. Donation items, pure gold, and Casino items are always accepted. Donation items are valued at mid-LD (will get link...eventually >.< wink , Casino items are valued at 1.5 times the ticket price. Anything else, just ask!

3. No talking about funds in the auction thread. That's SO crude, and discourages other bidders.

4. Tally your own bids! Brit is lazy. xd

We reserve the right to alter the rules as we see fit (or remember other stuff >.> wink .

PHYSICAL

  • Size and Shape
Winged pards are approximately the size of a small horse. They are build like lions, very strong bones and muscles, and are capable of carrying a lightly built human or child on land or in the air. Nitemare and Terra pards are built much the same, and are generally about the same size with exceptions for the difference in wings. Fairy pards are a slightly smaller breed, shaped more like a cheetah and slightly more delicate in appearance. Wingzelles are built along the lines of a largeish lynx, and tend to be about the same size as fae pards. They are also more delicate than their larger cousins.

  • Fur and Feather
Pard skin is very thick, and not likely to be pierced without some very sharp claw or weapon. Their fur is water-resistant, with a very faint sheen of oil- their fur repels water like the feathers of a bird, but is still extremely soft. This is true for all types of pards. In coloring, pards resemble tropical birds- a pard can literally be ANY color imaginable.

Wings vary drastically with the type of pard. All wing types stem from the shoulderblades, like a third set of limbs, but otherwise the types are very different. Winged pards have wings like a bird in all respects, up to and including types of feather. You could also keep a winged pard from flying if you clipped their wings, but I seriously advise against it. Chaining the pard is less likely to get you killed, though also a bad move. Nitemare wings are leathery, like those of a bat, and the skin of the wings is very tough. Nitemare pards are the only type that can fly easily in rain. Fae pards have very light, delicate wings like a butterfly, but touching them will not cause death- they are, however, much more fragile than the other two types. Wingzelles take after their Winged cousins, but their wings are much smaller- their stamina is also noticeably less when flying.

  • Maturity
All pards except Terra pards are born from eggs; Terra pards are the only ones that exhibit live births. Baby pards are just like the cubs of any large cat, relatively helpless to begin with and growing stronger under the protection of their elders. Baby pards cannot fly- it takes several weeks for their wings to officially catch up to their bodies, and then there's the act of actually learning to fly.

Pards reach maturity at about a couple years of age ((say a month in Gaia-time)). At this point they can breed, find a mate, form prides of their own, and be counted as adults- but older pards will still consider them children until they have shown that they have some common sense and wisdom.

The actual lifespan of a pard is unknown, because the race is extremely close-mouthed about it. There is enough magic in the race that they DO appear to live for several decades; though death is an accepted part of the circle of life, it causes extreme grief when a member of one of the prides dies.

  • Diet
Pards will eat most anything. They are omnivores- they enjoy fruits, nuts, cheese, and sweets as much as a rare side of venison. Cooked or uncooked is up to personal preference; too much of anything can make them sick, just like humans. It is part of their nature to hunt, but that has nothing to do with taste. Just like humans, what they eat depends on how they were raised, and what sort of foods they have been around their entire lives.

  • Male vs. Female
Physically, male pards are slightly bigger than females, with a little bit stronger build. Mentally, they tend to be more aggressive, while females show a cooler head. This is NOT always true, and exceptions (violent females, scholarly males) are not uncommon.

SOCIAL/HABITAT

  • Pride Structure
Most pards live either completely alone, or in a group structure referred to as a pride. A pride usually consists of one mated pair acting as leaders (mated pairs tend to provide more stability, but this is not always necessary as long as the leaders form a strong team- siblings, partners, etc.). There can be up to 10-15 other pards in the pride, including cubs and other males, as long as everyone accepts who the leaders are and works together. Larger than this, and you tend to have other dominant personalities born into/brought into the pride that will cause trouble. This usually results in the newcomer splitting off to form his/her own pride, taking some of the other members as well. There is usually a male leader in the pride, but this is not necessary or even completely universal. Pard ladies are just as capable of leadership; they just generally prefer to avoid the responsibility.

From time to time, a stronger leader will arise that begins to gather more than just his own pride under his wings. These leaders become almost King-like, sometimes called 'princes' due to their wide range of influence. Though you won't find many prides occupying the same space, you may find a large area of prides that look to a particular Prince for leadership. These leaders are not always just and fair- often they are as ruthless as any Human dictator, using their power for their own ends. High charisma is a strong factor in any pard wishing to fly this high- and the ability to think fast and talk faster. Pards are very cynical when it comes to politics.

MENTAL

  • Education
Pards are an extremely intelligent species. While most cannot speak to humans, they can find other ways to communicate and learn (see 'Language'). As cubs, they are taught by their elders things like history, how to defend themselves, how to hunt, and also things like philosophy and sometimes skills like tracking or some crafts. If the cub shows signs of magic, a teacher is found either within the pride or elsewhere; whether the teacher comes to them or vice versa is entirely up to the teacher.

If given the chance, however, pards will learn just about any subject you'd like to teach. Some will like history, some will like science- they are just like people, with a wide variety of interests. They cannot learn other forms of magic besides pard magic, but they can learn the theory- so they can assist in preparations or debate them with you. They can attain degrees from universities. They are not huge fans of computers- but there are always a few geeks in every society. Mainly, they are limited by not having hands, but aside from that...the sky is the limit.

  • Language
The pard written language is a system of short lines and dots, also slightly mixed with things like runes. An angular written language, because curves aren't so easy to make with claws. Just like any written language, if you have a teacher you can learn it- alternatively, pards can also learn languages in the same way. They don't even have to be mages- just because they can't talk to you doesn't mean they can't understand what you're teaching them. That's just a tiny matter of improper vocal cords.

Original Pard language is more like Chinese- characters that represent words and such, instead of individual letters, since what use would they have for the letter c...? But over time, with contact to humans, they made this alphabet to approximate human language. Sort of like the Japanese Romanji form. Very, very few people ever learn that language, because you HAVE to be very close to a pard for YEARS and get to know the way of thinking VERY well before a. they will teach you and b. you can understand it.

  • Beliefs/Religion
A respect for life is central to the pard mentality. They tend to be very eco-centered, caring for their environment and leaving very little sign of their presence if they ever leave. They rarely kill needlessly. Those who do not have this respect for life tend to be edged out of prides or outright attacked, if they inflict this lack on others.

Pards don't have religion...exactly. They DO have Gods, but they have no priests and these omnipotent figures are more of a background, absentminded remembrance. They have a whole pantheon, though no names are known- you might here them wish for luck from the lady of Fortune, or strength from the Hunter, or understanding from the Moonlord. Stuff like that. While there are stories passed around like legends, only a scant handful actually know anything solid about these deities.

  • Attitudes
Individually, pards are as different as a deck of cards. As a race, however, they tend to be fairly laid back, not overly excitable, and accepting of the eccentricities of the world. You don't see many pards have nervous breakdowns. In general, if you don't mess with them, they aren't likely to have a problem with you.

COMBAT

  • Methods of Aggression and Defense
Pards are not your average large cat. They fight for a lot of the same reasons, but it's very rare that a pard will jump into combat without thinking. This isn't because there are no hotheads in the race, but rather because their elders beat logic into them at a very young age. Protecting themselves, their pride, their environment, and whatever they personally choose to defend are the most common reasons for aggression on an everyday basis.

It is also true, however, that there are great strategists among the pards. In the case of a pride vs. pride or Prince vs. Prince scenario, wars have broken out in the past, sometimes spanning epic amounts of time, violence, and bloodshed. Based on history and their own aggressive nature, pards will attempt to be cautious and diplomatic first, knowing very well what their race is capable of.

Combat between pards can be as simple as biting and clawing, or as complciated as well-planned terrain/logistics and intricate spellwork. Most prefer one on one combat without any interference, even in a pridewar.

There are five types of magic in the pard world. Not every pard is born with magic, but the chances are relatively good- every pard has a 1/10 chance of having one of the three main gifts. The fourth gift, Prophecy, is extremely rare, and limited to perhaps five total in any generation.

The Mage Gift

The most common gift, Magecraft is extremely varied in its forms and can be used for almost anything. Every pard born with this ability has a specialty (such as light, charm, illusion, plants, etc.) and once they are trained they can move whole mountains if they have the right gift! Mages are also the only pards who can speak to other races, because they have found enough control of their minds to reach out.

The Healer's Gift

The most straightforward of the Gifts. Healers can take many forms- those who specialize in broken bones, diseases, or even wounds of the heart- but they all help fix hurts in some way, shape, or form.

The Seer's Gift

Seers do not see into the future. Their Sight is relevant to what is going on here and now- they can see what someone is doing across the world, or look into a box and tell you what's inside. MOST of them have high morals- but there's a few out there that make excellent companions to theives. Seeing the future is reserved for Prophets.

The Gift of Prophecy

Prophets are extremely rare in Pards. These magic-users have the gift (or curse) of seeing the future, usually things within the next few minutes to next several years. This is not a pleasant gift to have- most Prophets have a lot of trouble sleeping, because dreams make prophecy much more fluid. They are also subject to migraines, and often ulcers from to much worry about what they see. Luckily, what they see CAN be changed.

The Oracle

There is only one Oracle at a time- ever. This trait will not be passed down until the previous Oracle dies, so it often skips a generation or two. Oracles make the BIG prophecies- the ones that affect entire worlds or wars or witness thousands of people dying. This gift manifests only every once in a while, but when it does it can leave the Oracle unconcious or in pain for days. One such foretelling identified the threat to the pard world, and gave Vesperae the clues she needed to open he gate to Gaia and save the entire race. The current Oracle is Vitis Vinifera (Orasteele).

Yes, pards do occasionally breed. This process does not require lifemating, and can be between any gender and almost any species- they are more likely to pick a mate of their own type, but this is hardly law.

Regular breeding costs 10k, regardless of pard type or magic. Breeding is possible between any gender- the Hatcheries are equipped with sufficient technology to assist couples of the same gender. This sometimes results in random genes being found in the eggs- the system has not been perfected. Pards used in breeding MUST be on the new tags (aka on the Owner's List, or recent additions to the Aviary).

Shifter Pards
Shifter pards who breed with regular pards (we assume in pard-form, we really don't want to know details otherwise- if that's even POSSIBLE) have a 1 in 50 chance of passing on the ability to shift. Two shifter pards will have a 1 in 25 chance of passing it on; it is highly rare, and very difficult to attain. If one of the shifters involved has NOT reached it's shifter stage, it is treated as a regular pard.

Cosplay Pards
Cosplay breedings cost 15k, for the sake of the poor colorist. The babies have a 25% chance of carrying lineart edits, and even then don't bet on another full cosplay- if you've seen the way cosplay breedings are handled at the Kitsusagi Mountain, then this will make sense. (thanks to LizzyMoo for letting us use their awesome system!)

If you do not submit your pards for the breeding slots within a week of receiving a slot, then you have LOST the chance and we reserve the right to give it away or close it as we see fit. Paying for the slot will NOT make you exempt to this rule.

Occasionally, very rarely, a pard with enough magic will find in their studies the ability to change into a human (anthro) form. These pards have so far been found to have the ability; now all that remains is to watch and see if they suceed. This list is in desperate need of being updated- the complete roster is in the guild!

ATTENTION SHIFTER OWNERS:

When the auctions were first held, I promised that the shifters would never be taken away. Except for one case, in which the pard has never been named, I will hold to this- however, at this time only six pards are scheduled to reach the fourth stage. They are Turmali, Omearah, James, Psaltria, Yggdrasil, and Yukiko. The other pards are still capable of reaching the fourth stage, but until we see a bit more commitment to them they will remain adult pards.

In an effort to get more activity within the shop, we are now opening our Pard Points program! Don't have the gold for a custom pard? No problem! Activity now gets you points, which may then be used for free pards, custom pards, magic, and maybe even breedings! Shifter pard RP/journals count twice- once towards shifter requirements, once towards points as long as they are linked to the record thread.

Pard points may be saved up to attain higher prizes, but they are not cumulative- you must pay the points amount for EACH prize on the list. Prize costs are likely to go up as activity increases, so now is the best time to get them going!

Don't have a pard? Not a problem! The pards interact with everyone on Gaia. Your OC's (and even your other pets) can RP here as well.

How To Get Points:

  • Shop Activity
Being a shop lurker means being a name I recognize from being in and out of the shop frequently. This is not RP- this means you post in the thread, wave at people, and say hello often. Post in the shop actively, and you will receive 10 points a week. This is until/unless I find someone with enough time on their hands to actually COUNT each person's posts and report back to me >.o

  • RP in the Shop
For every (formal- paragraph form!) RP post within the shop, you will receive 15 pard points. Make sure you post a link in this thread, or you will not receive the points!

  • Finished RP
For every finished (formal- paragraph form!) RP, you will receive an additional 100 points. Finished RP's must be a minimum of 10 posts from your pard/character to be counted, and they may take place in any location (guild, AIM, or shop). Make sure you post a link in this thread, or you will not receive the points!

  • Journal Entries
For every appropriate journal entry, you will receive 25 points. These must be at least a couple of paragraphs long. If you do not have a journal, please PM me to request one. Make sure you post a link in this thread, or you will not receive the points!

  • Solo RP Entries
For every solo RP entry, you will receive 50 points. These must be at least a couple of paragraphs long. Make sure you post a link in this thread, or you will not receive the points!

PRIZES!

  • 100 points: Addition of any of the three basic magic types to the pard of your choice (you may NOT stack them with other magics without a LOT of RP background). The choices are Seer, Healer, and Mage, and you may choose the type of magic for the last (upon approval).

  • 250 points: Free randomly colored winged pard! You may choose the gender and let us know if you HATE a color, but everything else is left up to the artist.

  • 500 points: Custom winged pard!

  • 750 points: Custom pard, outline of your choice! (excludes cerberus pards)

  • 1000 points: BREEDING SLOT!

Good luck!

I'm actually rather fond of pet trades. It usually means I get pets I hadn't thought I could get before, or pets I wasn't aware of due to work and not being around Gaia as much as I'd like. I don't have a list of pets I want, really- but I'm always open to offers. Here's some guidelines:

-I like good, solid lineart and tags. Clean lines are very important to me.

-I prefer humanoid pets (I find them much easier to RP and work with) but that doesn't mean I won't consider any pet- there's a lot of critters out there I like. ASK! All I can do is politely refuse, I don't laugh at people. Hell, I'm just happy you want a pard that much xd

-I do customs for customs, or limited customs for limited customs. No pre-mades, as I want you to be happy with what you're getting.

-You CAN do a pet trade for a friend, that's perfectly fine by me as long as I get my half of the deal xd

Pet Trades that get an immediate yes:

Mozou. Moooozou mozou mozou.
Shaoilin wolves
Soquili
Puris
Kitsusagi [Mountain]
Crystal Grove
....URRRR. There's so many xd ;; ASK ME PEOPLE.

Past Pet Trades:
Tahnee Custom (omg Halifax!)
Stray Cat Strut (omg Chavanne!)
Mozou Totems (omg Dendro!)
Mozou Totems (omg Laen!)
