PLEASE READ THE FIRST POST!
Without any clinical proof of any long-term negative side effects, and not a single death credited to it's history, Many nations and states are considering the decriminalization of Cannabis Hemp, AKA Marijuanna.

When criminalized in 1937 in the Marihuana Stamp Act, The bill's cheif supporter, Harry Anslinger, testified that Marijuana induces terrible psychological illness and odd sexual habits in users, especially non-whites. Although all of these obviously racist "addiction symptoms" have been officially disproven, Marijuana remains a schedule-1 "Dangerous Narcotic" in the eyes of the DEA, and is Illegal.

In the modern world, medical researchers are finding more and more evidence that supports the use of hemp products as medicine, and several US state legislatures have legalized it's medicinal use. Countries such as the Netherlands have completely decriminalised it, and it is not a problem at all in their culture. It is sold in coffee shops, or "hashish parlors."

Many Americans call for the end of prohibition, yet some still say that weed is dangerous.

How many times has someone posted that Pot kills people when right here in this first post it's stated that it hasn't killed anyone. Please, stay informed if you are going to participate. Please have some actual knoledge to bring to the debate. Assumptions are ridiculous and don't help anyone. Rememeber, if you assume, you make an a** out of U and ME

It's just prohibition all over again; everyone ends up getting it anyway, only from an illegal source, perpetuating black markets.

Ah, the Black Market. The only inherently evil thing about Pot. The criminal element behind the distribution.

If It becomes legalized, people will have the obvious options of either growing their own, or buying from stores. The "homegrower" style won't be harmed at all, and demand for homegrun pot will readily increased since the penalty is gone.

Oh? Fill me in -- I haven't heard anything about its international status yet.

As for states, though -- you can already set aside twelve which have either decriminalized or legalized the medical use of marijuana.

Actually, I think I've seen a lot of marijuana legalization threads popping up in here lately, which is starting to be a tad eerie. It's also a litte frustrating to have to be posting the same damn thing in thread after thread... but then again, even when there's only one thread, no one seems to bother to read so much as the response directly above their own, let alone the most recent couple pages...

Oh. About herb. I think it's legal in California -- it's hard to remember sometimes... (j/k) I was told recently that by United Nations (read: international) law, a person can pretty much ingest most anything or do anything to themselves they wish as is customary according to their ethnic identity, culture, and most especially, their religion. So the plain fact basically is that the U.S.'s anti-drug program is in violation of U.N. mandate (haven't had the chance to cross-reference that at all yet, though, so if anyone knows any details...?)/

1. It's not *that* harmful and like you said, it can't kill you.
2. I don't believe the government(or anyone else) should have any say over what I put into my own body.

Canada has generally decriminalized it meaning it's still illegal, but not enforced because it's not a real threat to national health or security. Just don't go blowing your joint smoke into a Mountie's face. Bad Idea.

Mexico has little to no enforcement, and much of the weed in US is smuggled from there.

Almost everyone has heard of the Hash Bars in amsterdam, where you buy you bud and pick a hookah, and just puff away.

There are plenty of smaller underdeveloped countries that have no marijuana laws whatsoever, and well, Nobody cares in these places.

In my opinion it is a complete waste of taxpayers money. If the government would legalize it, they can control the sale of it. If they control the sale of it, they can ensure the quality of it, as well as tax it. This would actually gain money for them in two ways. For one, we would gain the millions (or more) that goes into prosecuting and enforcing laws pertaining to marijuana, secondly, we would gain a new taxable commodity. Hell, marijuana is hardly more dangerous that alcohol, and in my opinion, far less dangerous, but alcohol is legal.

And in my opinion, the same goes for other drugs. If the government controlled the sale and distribution, it would actually be in a far better position to help those suffering from drug abuse. And it's a hell of a lot better than just tossing them all in prison.

Ehhh... not so much. The US government has been trying to get across that marijuana and ilegal immigrants are connected, but there's literally so much homegrown herb (and Mexican weed's gotten the reputation by now of being kinda shitty quality) that bud doesn't do much border-hopping anymore.
