A building catches your eye as you are walking through the Gaian streets. It's a small little thing, on a huge concrete yard. You turn and walk towards it, wondering. There is no sign. You decide to walk inside.

The inside is white. Even the lady is dressed in pure white, with silky black hair and black eyes. She smiles.
"Welcome!"
The room is small. Just big enough for the desk on a white tiled floor. You look to the right, and there is a small latch. You are about to ask, but you are distracted.
"May I help you? Do you have business here?"
You shake your head and walk away, not thinking twice about it.

You get a strange package the next day...

I. No stealing the artwork. It has been laboured upon, and each artist has put their blood and sweat into it (gross, I know, but it's great protection against art theft!). Basically, if you want to use our art for something, ASK!
II. Want something? ASK! Don't just take stuff XD (see rule one)
III. No flaming. Got an issue with someone/something? Take it outside. Or stick to the saying "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it". We really want nothing to do with your problems. If there is a problem with the staff or content of the thread here, please PM the mule (ImperiumBC) and we'll address it :]
IV. No spamming. We are proudly spam-free since 100AD X33, let's keep it that way!
V. You cannot sell your Substantia. You bought it, you keep it! It's like a real child... would you SELL your child? Unless you do not have time to RP it, are quiting Gaia, or something like that, then WE will find a new guardian, or you can give it to a friend. Long story short: You can't make a profit off them (you wouldn't sell your kid... would you?)
VI. Obey, obey, OBEY! Listen to the staff when they have something to say! You disobey the staff's wishes (as long as they are reasonable, of course...), you're outta here!
VII. Know that more rules can and will be added. If there is a conflict within the thread that has not been addressed here, we (the staff) are able to add things. Like amendments :3

Q: What is Imperium, really?
A: Widely, it is known as a book XD Or it is a Latin word. (sovereignty, realm, command, power to command, authority, rule, control) But, IC wise, it is a corporation... Maybe. For all we really know, it's just a small white room with one secretary. Or is it? Well, only a few people really know... or do they?

Q: How often should we RP if we have a Substantia?
A: Well, if you do have a Substantia, you'd probably be in the guild. There is a whooole section on RPing your kid there. But if you can't find it, it's at least a few times a month, and you also must keep a journal at least once a month. Don't worry, our wonderful RP manager will be watching over yooou. XD

Q: What if my question isn't on here?
A: Well, before you ask a question, read the whooole thread (including the rules :3) to make sure it wasn't answered there. Then, if you still can't find it, don't be afraid to ask a staff member, or send a PM to the mule (ImperiumBC)! If it's a good question, we'll probably put it up here ^_^

Tezi stood on her sheltered balcony sipping hot chai tea and watching the rain pour. She shivered, and decided to go inside. There was something about the rain that calmed her, but she couldn't stand out there forever. Walking into her bedroom, she put the tea down and fell onto her bed. An impression appeared on the fluffy white covers. This was bound to be another boring day. She would've gone into her office and worked for awhile, but all the business had been completed for that day. There were no transactions, no withdrawals, no sales, no... anything. Maybe all the customers were taking a break for the day. That not being the point, she stood up, and headed downstairs. She would've even gone and talked to her son, Nathan, but he was still at school.

Just as Tezi was contemplating her day, the doorbell rang. With bare feet, she padded over to the door and opened it, revealing there was nobody there. She sighed, and chuckled under her breath, then went to close the door. Something caught her eye though. It was a package. A square box, kind of big, more than a foot tall, definitely. Standing up straight, and a note was attachted to it.

She laughed again. It was her full name. It seemed so proper. She picked the package up and walked into the kitchen to open it.

After finally ripping all the paper off, it turned out to be a small vase. It was rather colourful, and definitely old. There was also a crumpled note next to it. Tezi quickly un-crumpled it to read.
Dear Ms. Veison,
She paused and wondered if they knew she wasn't married, or if that was just how they addressed everybody.
We hope you enjoy this gift from us at Imperium.
Again, pause. What was Imperium?
Here is some information on your vase.
It was owned by a woman in Rome, the capital. Findings suggest it was used to hold a collection of colourful feathers. It is about 16" tall, and is from around 100 AD. The colourful markings on the outside also represent those feathers.

She wondered why they kept saying "enjoy", but dismissed it quickly. She turned her head towards the vase again, and turned the paper over. There was an address, and below it, another scribbled note.
Go to this address as soon as anything changes
Okay, now something was weird. What would change with a vase? She kept glancing over at it though, and for some reason felt attached to it. She couldn't figure out what, but it was something that made her cherish it like she had owned it for her whole life, not for five minutes. She picked up the vase, and carried it upstairs to her room, then continued her boring day wondering about it.

(Three days later)
Tezi yawned and sat up in bed, a usual morning. It was 8'00 already, which meant Nathan had gotten himself to school. Thank God. She flopped back into the bed, not willing herself to get up yet, but eventually did, and shuffled over to the shower. Cold water and five minutes later, she was out, and roughly dried her hair with a towel, then wrapped up in a bathrobe. She headed downstairs to get her coffee.

Everything was normal. Everything was in place. Tezi had gone through her normal morning routine, yet something was different. She went down the steps at a slower pace than usual, almost pacing herself for something. Then she remembered. The vase wasn't by her bed that morning. After her coffee... The thought ended as soon as Tezi saw her. A light skinned, rainbow-haired little girl, sitting at the kitchen table, talking to a wide-eyed Nathan. Normally, Tezi would have done something about Nathan still being home, but this situation was a bit different. Before anybody could see her, she slipped into another room and found a phone. She called the school and quietly told them that he would be staying home today, then re-entered the kitchen. Tezi took her place at the table.

"Hi!" the girl grinned.
"Umm... Hello..." Tezi paused, "Nathan, who is this?"
"Uhh. She doesn't have a name I think. And she... uh... doesn't really know what she is, or why she's here. She says she forgot everything.," he looked at Tezi, still wide-eyed.
"Forgot?" she asked
The girl nodded, "I really do feel like there's something I should be remembering now, but I forgot it."
What a statement. Tezi remembered the note, and what it said on the back.

"Looks like we're taking a trip today," she announced, looking at the girl again, "And I'm going to call you Pluvia for now, okay?"
Pluvia nodded.
"That's Latin for rainbow," she grinned again.
Tezi was surprised. This was going to be an eventful day.

Our society today is based of the building blocks of yesterday. The foundations that acient Romans paved into their streets thousands of years ago effect what we live like today. Take, for example, Latin. A fundamental in the English language, as for a good amount of roots are based on Latin words.

This is a bit like reincarnation, but not exactly. Reincarnation is something/someone that has died coming back to life. These kids were never alive. It's more the essence/spirit of Rome. What's left from the ruins and such.

The Romans were very logical people. They figured out how things worked, and didn't just make up stories to prove it. They arranged courts, and had a fair system of justice. So what does this all amount to in the world of Breedable pets?
Nothing, really, just pointing out that they were very logical people.

Back on track now, each artifact found in the crumbled civilizations of Rome have "animus" (Latin: mind, memory, will, consciousness, spirit, often mind, soul). The animus is one developed over hundreds of years and will lay in resting until awoken. Each "substantia" (Latin: essence) can be woken by one person. This person may be a tourist who stumbles over a broken pot, or maybe a archaeologist dusting off a dinner plate. Either way, the substantia will awaken, and their animus will be activated.

Each Substantia hides a secret, that is only to be found out with RPing (see roleplay post). These secrets can change how Rome was viewed, or maybe just make amends for one long since dead. Either way, things will change, and these changes can be severe enough to... well, putting it simply, kill.

The kids are called Substantia (Latin: essence) and they come from artifacts from ancient Rome. They each have an Animus (Latin: memory, mind, spirit, soul, ect) that develops over hundreds of years they hear people telling secrets and stuff. Each Substantia is essential in the plot. Animus must be activated for the kid to grow.

STAGE I: Artifact/Ruin: The Animus is as of now unactivated, and it is nothing but an empty artifact. Well, not exactly empty. The person who will eventually activate it can feel something different in it, that it's not just "nothing". At this stage the owner/guardian will cherish the item, for an unknown reason, but not really have anything else to do with it.

STAGE II: Parvulus/Child: Usually when the guardian activates the Animus within the Substantia, they don't realize it. Sometime they will feel a little different, but nothing really chages. Until the next day. You wake up, groggy, and walk downstairs to get your daily coffee, but it's not a normal day... Because when you get downstairs, you see this weird kid (the Substantia) sitting on your kitchen table.

Now the Substantia will be a living being, human like in many ways, but also representing the item they came from. (See art examples when they are up) Their Animus is not even close to fully awoken, so they don't really remember anything.

STAGE III: Secundus/Second/Secondary/Teenager: Something has changed in your Substantia. The markings have gotten more intricate, they've become more mature, ect, just overnight. At first you find it odd, but then you may come to terms with it. Maybe. They'll be pretty rowdy though! Watch your back!

Anyways, they look like a more intricate and older version of the first stage, and depending on the artifact may be sprouting some new features. The Animus is now starting to wake up, it's groggy, but it's waking up. Memories are foggy, but they are remembered.

STAGE IV: Denique/Final/Adult: Once again, another jump. This time, they won't have those wonderful mood swings. But AWW your little baby Substantia is all grown up now and ready to be trust into the world! (You know they can't live at home forever!) Anyways, they can do all these cool things. XD

Now they are even more intricate, and have all this cool stuff! All those new features they were starting to develop as a teenager? They're all here! Amazing, huh? Now the Animus is awoken, and they remember almost everything. Almost?

STAGE V? ???: Their Animus is at extreme overdrive now XD They remember everything... and they can change the world? Who knows.

Flatsale There is currently one going on [HERE]! This are RP-based events where each person enters in a prompt-based RP reply. Winners will be chosen, and they will pay a flat price (15k) for their child. There will be up to 3 for flatsale.
Auction There are currently NONE going on! This is a bidding system where bidders will bid on a special Substantia (how do I know it's special? Because auctions are special!). The set starting bid is 15k and the auto-buy is usually 500k or an item of that value.
Contest There are currently NONE going on! This is an RP-based contest where people will enter for free. For extra entries, they must pay 500 G. They will enter with a prompt-based RP reply and winners will get the Substantia for a discounted 10,000 G. Custom contest winners will pay the normal fee of 15,000 G.
Flaffle There are currently NONE going on! This is a mixture of a normal flatsale, and a raffle. People buy tickets for 100 G. Five tickets will be selected with a randomizer, and their respective ticket holders will each have a week to enter with a prompt-based RP reply. Flaffle winners get the Substantia for free, excepting ticket fees.

Reproduction... Wait. What? Having babies, basically >3< So, this is a very simple process. It's actually the same way we humans have babies (IC note: You can RP the events leading up to this "interaction" XD but you can't RP it... just, FYI XDD). What happens is the conception, and then a pregnancy, and then a child is born. The child is a new Substantia, but does not come from an item. They are just a baby. A combination of the parents. They happen to know things the parents may have forgotten (before their Animus was activated), though :33.

Pregnancies can happen starting in the teen years. Be careful, and use protection!
(OOC note: Cost is 10k to have a baby- pregnancy art && the baby X3. You may give the child to one of your friends, or have us find a guardian; through auction or contest; because each person can only have one Substantia)

Death can happen. It probably won't though. In some rare cases, (OOC note: guardian doesn't want the Substantia and we can work it into the plot, or something along those lines) though, it might. All living beings, in the end, are mortal. The Animus will go to inhabit a new object after the death of it's mortal body (the Substantia). Death happens due to extensive sickness or mortal injuries.
