EDIT -- March 6, 2008
I am very sorry for everyone who has stopped by this thread while I had not been attending it. My real life had to take priority over Gaia, it just took longer than I thought. I still like my thread here, I am going to read over everything and update what I believe needs to be updated to reflect the current GaiaOnline. Thank you for stopping by.

Store Item PLUS, what it is?
- An idea to innovate already existing store items. In other words how to evolve them into something new, even though they have been around for a while.
- Two part answer. Firstly it gives the Gaian users the option to take a standard store item and change it, so it's appearance will differ in some way(s) from the appearance upon purchase from the store. Second this feature can function as an excellent way to take gold directly out of the economy since it would be a system of the world of Gaia and not a user to user interaction.
To sum it up, like upgrading your Gaia house or any of the fishing rods this "Store Item PLUS" takes an item you can buy and makes it different! By paying a fee (by this user's reconmendation) just like a house or rod upgrade.
- I think this idea could be looked at in three different parts, each with its own innovative contribution for the Gaian user.
- Color
Shape
Color & Shape
- Color -- First off most store items come magically in a choice of three colors, sometimes even different prices for the different colors. Being able to upgrade to a fourth color (just one more additional color) would drastically increase the variety of item combinations on Gaia. Also adding or removing pattern from an item (including making the item rainbow patterned) could be fun!
- Estimated cost: 5,000g
Single color addition
Remove pattern (already on clothing)
Add pattern (to clothing item)
Make rainbow colored
Shape -- A change in shape could be interpreted in many different ways, some of which I am going to discuss have been suggested to Gaia in the past. One way to change shape would be to "wear out" an item by adding holes or tears. Another way to change shape could be taking a previously released store item that seems flat and give it a face lift so it has more depth (in other words better drawn quality). Lastly a quick way to change shape could be cutting or tearing off the sleeves (or legs) of a shirt or jacket (or legs of the pants).
- Estimated cost: 15,000g
Holes and tears
Add depth/improve quality
Remove sleeves/legs
Color & Shape -- This last option I propose could be considered as a total makeover for an item, and this is not necessary for most items on Gaia in my opinion. However for items that have great potential popularity, like Flame Pants, but do not have an appearance that is universally appreciated, like Flame Pants, this upgrade method could be created for Gaians willing to pay a high fee for vanity.
- Estimated cost: 25,000g
- Okay, looking at almost everything in the stores as a whole seems like innumerable hours of work on behalf of the people who keep Gaia going, but here is my argument (fyi, this is a bad way to begin any justification for point of view...but it is shorter and to the point rather then long and eloquent).
One of the main aspects of Gaia that appeals to people are the customizable avatars. Many people strive to make their avatar unique as they customize it. It has been shown that Gaians will both work hard (via questing and such) and give up gold in irretreivable ways (via salon) in this pursuit. Since people want to customize their avatars in unique ways and there has been a history of attaining ways upgrade the physical character (avatar) of Gaia why not incorporate ideas that have been presented consistently over time on Gaia. That being color and shape augmentations to pixel clothing. To even make things fair for all Gaian this petition suggestion that store items be the vessel towards this idea, because they are possibly attainable to all Gaians.
- No I'm not, however I do not think messing with non-store items is the same as messing with store items. In theory store items are unlimited in amount, non-store items are limited in amount. So trying to apply the same feature to both kinds of items would have very different effects on the economy. Imagine upgrading the Cat Tail to a tabby coloring (store item cost 2,000 and color change 5,000) and then trying to buy Deluxe Cat Ears (minimum cost right now 9,000 and upgrade 5,000). Later that year what if people could purchase Deluxe Cat Ears for half the price you paid, but still had the same upgrade cost? Meanwhile during the high priced season upgraded Deluxe Cat Ears would be even higher costing then non-upgraded.
This is far more complicated then just doing a lot of normal clothing items, and the Deluxe Cat Ears was one of the smallest non-store item examples in price I could find.
