Introduction
Gaia was well known throughout the land for the towns of lively hangouts, shops filled with treasures and surprises, the colorful mix of races and people, and the magic in the beautiful scenery underneath blue skies that surrounded the main towns.
But not everywhere a person went was beautiful, or exciting, or even treasured. Like most places, there were shops and areas that were obviously not quite up to the standard of the rest. And in one neighborhood in Durem, shadowed by other shops that presented a much more pleasing or desirable front, there was such a shop.
The faded and flaking paint, if studied for long enough, read 'Through the Looking Glass.' And if one peered through the windows, they could make out what appeared to be mirrors, and old antique jars and lamps. A lot of them, old and worn, dirty and ugly by the challenges of time, the shop used by rats as a barrier from the weather, and even worse, a thick layer of dust covered everything. There was a living space up on the second floor, but from the looks of things, it was no better than the first floor.
No wonder this place was empty and long abandoned.
But it wasn't abandoned anymore. Three women had seen the store not too long before, and after much scraping together of funds, they had managed to buy the shop, mirrors and all.
Emme and Yuu gladly took a mirror each, but found they were unable to clean the surface. The reflection was, at best, blurred and hazy. Neith decided that she'd much rather a beautiful blue vase, and gave it as a present to her adopted daughter, Kia. Yuu soon gave up trying clean it, gave it as a 'present' for her own adopted daughter.
Then, one day, when Emme woke alone in her bed, she noticed something odd about her new mirror. It was reflecting, and clean, the haze and blur had gone from it. She picked it up to peer into it, and in the reflection, saw a young boy that looked a great deal like she did crawling around on the bed that had been empty. When she turned around, he was still there... he'd appeared out of no where, it seemed. He seemed to have her eyes, her hair, even her skin color!
Neith called her only a few hours later. Her daughter Kia had seen a reflection in the vase's surface, of a little girl jumping on Kia's bed. When she had turned around, the girl was still there! The little girl had adopted Kia's blonde hair, her gold hands, and a marking Kia had on her face, but strangely enough, the little girl had also taken on a few details from Kia's boyfriend. According to Kia, there had been a photo of him next to the vase the entire time she had it.
After a very excited few hours babbling on the phone, they came to the conclusion that the two children must have somehow been connected to the odd items, and that the children must have reflected details on Neith's daughter and on Emme.
They were both excited beyond belief, and called Yuu. The mirror she'd taken was blurred and hazy still, according to her daughter Rei... but Emme and Neith decided that it was time to investigate these odd happenings further, and find some good people to help them...
