Welcome to Gaia! ::

Oona’s the name.You may have guessed that I’m not from around here. I had actually never heard of this Gaia place before my...let’s call it a quest...before my quest led me here. And I called you over because I could actually use a little help and you seem to know what’s what. So, care to lend a hand to the new kid in town?

Great! You’re a doll! Let’s go grab a bite to eat and I’ll give you all the details.

So...my quest. It wasn’t always mine. I kind of inherited it, I guess you could say. When my gran was very young she read about a fairy creature and its hidden treasure. And she just felt in her heart that it was more than a story. Everyone thought she’d grow out of it when she grew up, but she only became MORE convinced that the fairy was real and that she would be the one to find it. Gran spent years reading, researching, traveling all over the world, and talking to anyone who would listen. More than once, she thought she was so close only to have the dream slip right through her fingers. People said she should take it as a sign that she was wasting her time. But it only hardened her resolve. They called her stubborn and foolish. I say she was tenacious and optimistic. I guess I also inherited that from her. Because here I am, on the very same quest. And I just know that I’m almost there. But I don’t want to go it alone anymore. And I can sense that you’re the one who could help me see it through to the end.

I hold in my hands the journal that my gran used to document every step of her journey and every clue she came across along the way. (I’ve made some contributions of my own, of course.) And everything points...here. I don’t know what’s so special about this place, but this is where the fairy dwells. And this is where we’ll find the tools we need to trap her. Yes, we need to build a trap. That’s where you come in. I have a collection of clues that lead to the locations of the materials we’ll need in order to put together a nifty little contraption. Since you know your way around here, I think you’ll need to be the one to do the deciphering.

Since you haven’t called me crazy and run off (which happens a lot), I assume you’re willing to help me out. Thanks, new friend. No, really. You can’t even imagine how relieved I feel that someone finally believes me.

Now, to build our fairy trap, we’ll need:

    1. A box
    2. A stick
    3. A string
    4. Some bait

I know these all sound like ordinary objects. And you’re not wrong. On their own, they’d be pretty useless. But if we put them all together using the right alchemical formula, we should have everything we need to contain a creature of magic.

I don’t want to overwhelm you, so I’ll just give you one clue at a time. Come back here tomorrow and I’ll hand you the next clue.

Ah, I’m so close now. I can feel it in my bones. And sure, treasure would be nice, but at this point I just want to complete the quest that my gran started so long ago. Don’t worry, though. I won’t let you leave empty-handed. I’ll make sure you get a reward for all of your efforts!

Okay, are you ready? Set? Let’s go!
Clue #1

Although she first read about the fairy in a book, my gran wasn’t really a by-the-book kind of gal. She would never have gotten anywhere if she had only ever done what she was told. But she wasn’t reckless. She knew which lines could be crossed and she knew which rules could never be broken.

Clue #4

When I was very young, there was this poem my gran would always recite to me. It was so long ago, but let me see how much of it I can remember…

Where dips the _____ _____
_____ _____ _____ _____ _____ lake,
There lies a leafy island
Where flapping _____ _____
_____ _____ _____ _____;
There we've hid our faery vats,
Full of berries,
And _____ _____ _____ _____.
Come away, O human child!
To the waters and the wild
With a faery, hand in hand,
For the world's more full of weeping than you can understand.

Where the wave of _____ _____
_____ _____ gray sands with light,
Far off by furthest Rosses
We foot it all the night,
_____ _____ _____,
Mingling hands and mingling glances
Till _____ _____ has taken flight;
_____ _____ _____ we leap
And chase the frothy bubbles,
While the world is full of troubles
And is anxious in its _____.
Come away, O human child!
To the waters and the wild
With a faery, hand in hand,
For the world's more full of weeping than you can understand.

Clue #5

I’m wearing green in honor of my gran. It was her favorite color. She said it reminded her of home. She would often gaze out across the sea with a far-off look in her eye.

The numbers refer to a way of coding a message, if I had to guess. Probably in this manner:

(page) : (line) : (word)

Altogether, it'll make a 14-word sentence that will lead to either an object or another clue.
