marketplace is overinflated as is because of the price we as users put on the items we sell, now i understand that we all want gold to make our dream avi's and such but seriously, no one in there right mind is gonna pay 10 mill for one item, that is rediculous, somewhere along the line gaia needs to step in and do something about this

So you take issue with the way a largely capitalist economy is meant to work? 'People' put prices on goods and services in the real world as well. If the price is too high people won't buy it or they'll go somewhere that it's cheaper or find a different item entirely that's less expensive. People can, do, and want to pay 10M for certain items on Gaia. In fact that there are a lot of items bought and sold daily for many times that amount. If Gaia wants to retain the capitalist economy they need on the website in order to survive in the capitalist economy of the real world there is nothing they can or should do in terms of 'stepping in' regarding items valued over your arbitrary 10M.

I don't know if anyone has already said this, but what if you added a tax to the price itself rather than deducting gold after the transaction?

Say if the sales tax was 5% and someone wanted to sell an item for 100 gold. They would enter their price and then when the item is listed it becomes 105 gold. When another user buys the item, they pay 105 gold as the final price, of which 100 gold goes to the vender. That way the seller gets the amount of gold they want (100 gold) and 5 gold leaves the system.

I don't know how the developers would make that happen (seeing as it may require a lot of programming and could alter the MP drastically) but if they could manage it I feel that it would be a pretty effective gold sink.

No more tax in market place.

How about you start taxing people who avoid the mp? I am sure you can do something with trades.

Add a 2% tax with them. Frankly, if I have to pay a 2% tax in the mp so should the people in the exchange.

This same argument was given when the 2% tax was put in in the first place and it didn't happen. What did happen? Prices were gouged by the sellers to try and cover for the 2% and when buyers didn't keep buying at the higher prices, the price fell back down to where it was before. The market is actually incredibly self-balancing when it comes to this because of the free nature of it. If the selling price goes beyond what buyers feel the item is worth, they stop buying until the price falls back down to where they are willing to buy it again. Even assuming buyers continued buying and the prices kept going up, ultimately they would go back down because the gold would continue being sunk at higher rates until the gold was worth more again and the item prices would again sink because of that.

We do understand economics and we especially understand our economy. We have data for every sale and every effect that the Market has endured since it first started. We aren't as ignorant as many believe.

I don't think you understand economics when you try to solve a temporarily gold spike (like now with the Flynns Booty) that will end in days, with a permanent punishment for Gaians for future years to come. It wasn't needed with previous actions like this in the past (Mythrill coins). Also you tell around already that this doesn't influence the economy. Still you want a tax increase on the Vend because you come up with the idea. Why do you listen to screaming noobs and not to reason. And Gaians massively tell you in the thread for it, that they don't want it. exclaim

It's unfair because most people who sell in the Marketplace don't like the Exchange but they are forced to go there. And they won't make a thread to sell a Mythrill Sword or a Brown Giftbox. Also they won't make 5 threads, because selling fish goes already in a different forum.

Next so many Gaians are not online every day. So they like to stick their item up in the Vend in hope it sells over the next 5 days. Very possible. But no they are forced to make threads in the Exchanges and when they are offline, no sale at all for the 5 days.

Solve this thing on a different fair way please, there is really no point in increasing the Marketplace tax. Just release more items and it's all done. So simple. It also stops the chaos, how nice to make your Gaians worried and bothered.

I think raising the MP tax to 2% will raise the price of the items that people are selling, because the sellers wanna make a profit. It'll make those Quests we know are only slightly impossible so out of our reach that there would be no point in questing for a dream avatar anymore.

and i guarentee you they can only blow that much gold cause they were lucky enough to get items or win giveaways that just shat out gold like its made out of thin air, what im purposing is a fair economical system that is fair to all users no matter how much gold that person has, or even makes it easier to earn larger sums of gold

no. it's really difficult for people to earn gold, especially those that aren't on the website 24/7 because of rl work. people will raise prices of items anyway because they want to make more gold!

I agree, however I mainly only ever pay for people's artwork, and art on this site is already ridiculously high, what's the point in even coming on this site anymore, if I can't achieve what I want from it.

I don't think this would be fair to people who use trades to gift their friends or people they want to donate to gold, or who use it as a means of transferring gold from one account into a mule account. In other words, things that aren't actual purchases.

I am only talking about gold. Not the gifts that people give. There would be a way around the 2% tax.

Frankly, I would rather give an item to a person than gold. Yet, if the friend asks me for gold and there is the 2% tax oh well.

I'm not their bank. They will lose 2% of it. Seems fair to me.

At this moment in time let's forget fairness to anyone. Site has a problem. They need get rid of it. There is enough tax in the mp.

They need to tax something else. Or put a fee on something else.

My accounts are worth well over 300M (I haven't bothered to calculate it recently). I have personally given away more than 100M over the last four years or so to other users. I currently have 32M+ in pure. When I was in highschool in 2007 when there were MCs and the dawn of EIs I spent a grand sum of about $170 USD on Gaia. I have never spent any more real money and aside from the things I bought for my significant other at the time I still own all of the things I bought with real money. I have never won a contest prize of any significance- certainly not enough to 'blow' on a 1M item never mind a 10M one. I have made guides (x, x) to teach other people how to earn gold without paying real life money. If it were just me that can make gold without paying real life money or winning contests that would be one thing but 1,035 people have <3'd my guides since they implemented the voting system. There are also almost 10,000 people in my guild about gold-earning and almost 10,000 people again in another guild I am crew in that focuses solely on one method of earning gold. Presented with this information I would hope that you concur there is a glaring flaw in your 'logic'.

What you are proposing? Because from what I have read all you want is for a vague non-specific 'something' to be done about items that are worth more than the arbitrary amount of 10M. In what way would your 'system' be fair? How would a system that is "fair to all users no matter how much gold that person has" work exactly? Or how do you think it would affect the economy if it were "easier to earn larger sums of gold"?

Edit: Xelvorktork would like you to know that another guild which focuses on one specific way to earn gold currently has 9,574 members
