Welcome to Gaia! ::

I warned you all years ago, we could have made a difference then. I hope we can make a difference now, if we still have time.

I'm with you there, anyone paying attention would have seen this coming down the pipes. I'm a little more pessimistic, though, and think it's a little late.

I can't tell if the new ei being 4MILL in the mp is because no one is buying or if people really are that crazy.
Either way I really want it and that price makes you realize just how jacked the market is because of booty :<
Excuse me while I go cry.

Count me in.
Like helll I would spend REAL money on GAIA!! (or ANY virtual site with no tangible benefit)
Especially- Club Verge is a real blatant display of DISCRIMINATION.
Discrimination, specifically against those who cannot/will not pay such a large sum of money. Seriously?? That's another "-ism" to add to the numerous "-ism's" of this world! (racism, sexism, etc) As if we need any more of those!!
Only reason I still maintain some activity on this site is the Art Forum. A way to watch ppl livestream & learn from other artists lol. =n= sigh.
What is happening? What's happening??

Romantic Shapeshifter

New EIs and REIs are also put up for stupidly high prices just after they've come out, same with pretty much any item out of the cash shop. They go down after a while, some of the best EIs stay high though because they're highly sought after.

at this rate im not buying anymore gc and have stopped ever since inflation started id rather keep the gold i earned rather then waste it on an item that isnt worth buying even at 1m =-=

Gallant Fatcat

I'll admit I have bought stuff on Gaia, but it's got out of hand. The prices are ridiculous for a bunch of pixels and the marketplace has subsequently become a joke. Something needs to stop.

I sign. I've been on this site for over five years and I've formed a lot of friendships that I hope to hold for years to come. That's the sense of community that kept me coming back. I had a lot of fun. People came and went, and I stayed despite the number of those friends dwindling, seemingly by the week. I came anywa because I felt like I was still having fun, and the once in a while ads through announcements never bothered me.

But now? Now I feel like I'm in a parking lot with a shady car dealer, being pushed to this and that even though I don't want it. Pop-up ads BY GAIA on the MyGaia page? Seriously? The wreck of an economy we have now? Everything of value costs cash? The ********, Gaia? You said you were free. For a long time, even I could get something that was valuable, with some help from my friends and patience. Now? Forget it. If I don't spend money, I can't afford anything on the market. You broke your promise to your community, and you don't deserve another cent from us until you rectify that.

I'm only fortunate that I finished my item questing long ago, but there are a lot of others who haven't. It's not fair to any of us.

I haven't fed money into Gaia in a really long time. And I remember when it used to be exciting. I also find it really frustrating when the advertisement for items inevitably ends up having nothing but inflated mp prices. If you don't get what I'm saying, just look on the main page when they're advertising certain items or sets. There have been numerous times I've looked at those ads, seen an item I really liked, and found out after researching it on tektek or mp, that it costs 20M. What kind of pricing is that?

It makes me feel like the only people who "survive" in this Gaia economy are those who are talented. If you're an amazing artist or can code really well, you'll be able to charge out the a** for your services. I've seen art that was sub-par go for something like 3M+. I've also seen really talented profile coders making close to 15-20M on one project alone. People who vend are also incredibly lucky, in that their skills get them a lot of headway. Granted, they earned it with their talent/skills, but this is my point... The talented people of Gaia should not be the only users able to succeed. Gaia items are so unbelievably expensive, it seems nearly impossible to change your avatar.

I know I am saying this while having quite a bit of "fortune" on me, but please keep in mind that I've spent several years saving up. I would love to be able to have multiple outfits like some users do, but I don't. I've worn this current set for a fairly long time now. There are items I like to collect, like the expressions, hair, or the unique arms/legs. But those items alone seem to cost millions in some cases. Why is this sort of thing being allowed to happen? Why do Gaia users have to drown in a sea of inflation constantly?

Not to mention now every single time I log onto Gaia some advertisement for GC items pops up. This is intrusive, and every single time I close it, I feel increasingly frustrated. Gaia used to be a website (I started late 2003, but have swapped accounts since then) where you could enjoy posting and if you saved enough gold, you could buy something. I remember how excited I was when I got my first coco kitty. Back then, for me at least, it was a more "luxury" item. I think it took more time to generate gold, and my memory is foggy, so I don't know if there were any items you could buy with cash in place then. Anyways, point being, the items prices were feasible and dream avatars didn't cost an arm, leg, and a heart. About the only useful thing to spend gold on it seems is art, or something that is actually palpable.

I'll be the first to admit that I adored the Gaia shop itself. You know, the one that sold pajamas, underwear, hoodies... Yet I can't find it anymore, and I think I remember reading somewhere it got closed down. I know there's some other site that offers Gaia art, but my Gaia Store PJ Pants ended up being worn so much they developed holes. I had gotten a pair of the physical PJ pants for Christmas when they were doing the promotion back in 2007?

Enough of my ranting. Sorry for the wall of text. I just don't understand why the website staff do not pull in this inflation issue and make things more user-friendly. I for one don't have hundreds to blow on one or two items, and I'm sure many others don't either.

^ This was a really good point. I had wanted to get the hats (OMG and AFK) from the Gaia shop because I couldn't afford the pixel versions in game but I never got around to it since I had no way to purchase things online (I was too young...) I believe they were what, like $20 or $30? (They are selling pixel items for more than that now!) I would gladly pay real money for some of those items given the chance now, they could no doubt make a killing selling plushies again, who doesn't love plushies? 3nodding (Kitten star plushies, anyone? *_*) Perhaps they could make it a deal where you buy the real one you get a virtual item as well like they did with the pajama pants. That way people can spend money on pixel items but justify it by buying a useful real item. T^T I don't know where I'm going with this, I just wish that shop still existed so I could support Gaia because I refuse to buy any more pixels for real money... emo
