Welcome to Gaia! ::

Salty Garbage

Do you guys have plans to address the security issues that come along with some of these shady ad providers? People are in here talking about ads being annoying and being resource hogs (and I certainly don't want to minimize those issues), but I don't see many people talking about what a security risk online advertisements represent. It seems like the administration is aware that there's malware present in the offers page but isn't taking steps to screen offers; will advertisements be the same way?

I have no issue with unblocking these ads. It's not like your ads make sound or really slow down loading times.

I hope people are willing to listen to this. It's not inconvenient to allow silent ads on one website

No.
I pay $10 a month in Autocash without fail. I have donated well into the thousands over the last 9 years of my hard earned money. I believe that I have earned my right to block ads if I feel like it. I have sat back and gritted my teeth through every change this site has seen and rolled my eyes at the obvious money dumps to help the site and gold sinks to ease the economy. I have been through Independent-Gaia and Corporate-Gaia, allowing you to dictate how much I should donate by guilt-tripping me with sad sob stories of how this site is barely paying the bills.

Do not pull this bullshit of how you need ads enabled because you can not afford to get new servers, hire new staff, or pay the ones you've got because people chose to get AdBlock. You are in no position to play that card. If you were still the small company barely out of the garage and running 5 servers and didn't throw out a s**t load of Cash Shop items every other week, then YES. I would allow ads to show up. But since Gaia has gone above and beyond a small scale company to a full blown corporation that must be making no less than 60 times more than they used to, forget it. I will not be thrown bullshit pity pleading asking me to allow ads.

You are not Facebook, Gaia. Have some respect and stop thinking your dedicated users are nothing but stupid sheep that will bend over and continue to take it. You want something? GIVE US BETTER GUILDS, UPDATED INVO SORTER, THE ABILITY TO LINK ONE MULE TO OUR ACCOUNT, UPDATED VERSIONS OF THE GAMES YOU MADE, FIX THE GAMES YOU HAVE, OR ANYTHING WE CONSTANTLY ASK FOR IN THE SPRING CLEANING FORUM THAT YOU CONSTANTLY OVERLOOK. But DO NOT give us bullshit sob stories. You pulled that s**t before with zOMG! and look what happened. Show us respect for being members, for choosing your site over the hundreds of thousands out there. Out of everything we ask for, THAT is the cheapest and easiest thing to give.

I just Excluded Gaia Online(the whole domain) from AdBlock. I'll gladly watch ads on Gaia if it'll help.
What bothers me most isn't that Gaia has ads to earn revenue, it's that Gaia seems to have an unquenchable greed for money, from it's users, it's advertisers, everyone. But Gaia REFUSES to allow ANYONE, especially it's loyal user base, to MAKE the money it so wants for itself, with anything to do with the site.

Maybe if Gaia let it's users MAKE money from the site, those users would pour that money back into the site.

Just a thought.

Sisky, you almost make me want to disable my adblockers due to your nicely worded post. But then I remembered what the internet was like with ads. gonk

Valiant Gaian

I, for one, would like to see statistics on your yearly income, wage per employee and how much you spend on Gaia monthly before I make any decisions. However, I still hate ads and Gaia is the only site I know, or is constantly in, that actually allows these vermins to be blocked. Tell me exactly how much is a Gaian losing you money for the ads we choose to block and I might consider turning them back on.

Otherwise those noisy, bright and flashy things are staying hidden from my sight as long as I'm on Gaia.

I think you need to make add reporting better known. I knew there was a way, but didn't bother to find it when I could easily just activate the ad block for buying cash items, which I do a lot. I've seen a lot of ads on here for things such as "Find a hot Russian girlfriend easily!" and whatnot. If ad reporting was better known, I don't think so many people would complain about them. That was the big thing that bothered me.

Aside from that, the rollover ads in the Avatar Editor drove me crazy! Every time I hovered over one of my items in the pop up window that overlapped the ad, the ad would countdown and then start playing over my screen. Until recently, I only had 2Gigs of bandwidth per month and video ads were killing me.

I, as a long-time Gaia member (previous account was hijacked), would really like to see the removal of rollover ads, at the very least their removal from the Avatar Editing page.

Happy evening,

Tricky Lunatic

I forgot that I even have the ad-block app on. rofl

In any case, Gaia ads are perhaps less intrusive than on other sites. e.g. Facebook.

Or it might have something to do with those four daily links that gave you 50g per day.

For auld lang syne, my dear.

O.G. Gaian

well i am sorry but i will do everything in my power to keep them blocked and the more you shove this ad crap down my throat the more i will block them

i dont think you really need the ads, you have enough people buying gaia cash and using auto cash to do what you need

besides you could remove features that dont work for the majority of people on here like zomg

my feeling, you guys are just greedy asses who is looking for any excuse to make another dollar when you can easily support yourself

why dont you fuction like pbs or premium channels NO ADS THERE and in the state i am in they dont have pledge drives for pbs
well they used to until like 3 years ago and then well i dont know what changed but they no longer require pledge drives to survive
at least i have not seen one in 3 years and i watch pbs tv at least 2 hours a night and have done so for 3 years
SO IF PBS CAN DO IT WHY CANT YOU?

sorry gaia but i am gonna continue to block your ads

Sarcastic Advisor

Most of the ads i was getting on here were porn, i dont mind other ads, i just ad block on here because of the disgusting pictures and the pop-up-anything lotto site.

You, sir, clearly do not live in the boonies. One video on autoplay can make my internet lag and occasionally go into submission.

Tipsy Vampire

Dear Sisky and anyone else who may read this,

I'm kind of an oldbie on Gaia, so I remember when ads that were displayed weren't always trustworthy. Now, this may have changed. but I'm still a bit leery about what ads may appear on your site. I understand that Gaia needs the revenue, but I really don't want to put my computer at risk. I would like you all to screen your ads a bit more thoroughly before I allow them on this site.

I love Gaia, but I've been disappointed with your security in the past, and that has left me feeling quite unsafe when it comes to allowing ads.

Thank you,
Karill
