~nods~ Me? As of now, I asked one of the mods about whether it was safe to trade to/from my mules in case it was the trading that set it off.

She said that if they were unlocked it means that they were not labeled as involved meaning that I bought an item from the marketplace that was stolen. I even know what I bought; I bought a trick or treat tote 2nd gen. a few days beforehand for 95k. =( It was within 10k of the other prices.

But they wouldn't tell me that much even! They're not allowed to say WHAT set off the ban.

Which is a load of crap. They should at least say WHY beyond "it's involved in an investigation."

Actually, you know what? If the "involved/suspected" user helps, then MAYBE the investigation can go more QUICKLY.

Alot of trading passes were disabled when a script was running from new extensions on browsers, causing pages to load abnormally fast, and repeatedly.

Users were having their trading passes disabled, being temporarily banned / perma-banned, and accused of botting - For no fault of their own.

May I ask -when- this happened to you?

Me? It was about January 10, 2009... about, as I don't know the exact day.. as like an idiot I thought it was a glitch in the system (as my trading had had such glitches a few times before... and I heard of such odd glitches occurring before)... and didn't report it till nearly 2-3 weeks after the fact around Jan. 21, 2009... or at least that's when the Omni Mod finally got back to me informing me it was actually a trade ban. sweatdrop Silly me...

Anyways, I don't think they have a "script" running anymore... from what I've been "hinted" at, all new bans (not sure when they took the script down) are actually based on evidence of something going on. Like... they already know said person is a hacker, scammer, botter, Gold Buyer; but just need to catch them in the act... sadly that means getting the innocent users involved and possibly Perma-banning them.... depending if you did anything bad on your own (as they will go ahead and look into your activity while they have the file open anyways).

Let me clear things up. Gaia does NOT monitor every transaction. Gaia does NOT automatically investigate gifting or trading over a certain value. Gaia does NOT assume that any large gold transfer is botting. We assume it is legit unless we have proof that it is not. Innocent until proven guilty.

So yeah...

@ Unified_Splintered: I totally agree, though... I may not be much help anymore as to telling them were I got the "suspicious" items from... though I guess the system doesn't randomly flag people anymore (though I don't know about that refreshing thing that might still make them think "bot"... so that could still set it off... but from what hints I've been dropped, everything else is pretty much you actually brought a "HOT" item from a known felon... kindof deal).
Gaia often blocked me for "loading the pages too fast" when I hadn't even touched the tab open for 30 minutes or more.

A mod has told me that the Skype add-on for firefox affects this, but it was a bit too late.

Why don't we get told this before putting us under suspicion?
Oh wow, I had no idea it was that bad.

I'm questing a really expensive item and I'm nearly there. Now I'm sitting here wondering if I should buy at all, I mean, how do I know the item is clean? neutral

Yeah, you have the right to terminate an account at will with no reason as stated in the TOS but that does not guarantee you the right to treat your users like they are nothing.

I hate that rule! >_< So damn freaking much I can tell what they both have in common much.
Its as worse as treating
your loyal users/customers as dirt s**t!
Hell, BOTH are worse!!!

But (sighs) oh well....

If someone don't mind, could anyone
tell me WHY they made up that rule in the TOS??

I was curious as to why that rule was made in the TOS. I was
told by SF Regs why they made that rule (I forgot the reason behind it why) but I want a different reason this time. Cuz having second thoughts about it after reading the OP and the posts in this thread, I think that reason behind that dumb rule is bullshit.

If anyone's gotta different explanation please tell me.

Well if you end up with a trade ban, at least you'll know exactly what item it was.. though you won't know where it falls under:

1. Botted
2. Hacked
3. Scammed (means you paid too much or too little)
4. Gold Buyer (they brought it through a 3rd party site with real money)

Each field is treated differently and takes different amounts of time for it to get fixed.

In all seriousness, I wish you'd just quit posting, because all you're doing is spouting misinformation and bullshit, and you've been told such by several mods.

I can't even express how much of a fail #3 is - scammed means the item was taken from an idiot who was fooled into giving away their pass. You do not get your TP revoked for buying an item for whatever price.

Also, no, if you get your TP pass revoked, you usually get told when you get your TP back what happened and what item it was. Not before, and not during.

    I know how you feel.
My account's trading pass was disabled for a whole month, but it's nothing compared to other people's cases. There's people with disabled trading passes for over a year, it's insane.

And I just found out my mule's pass was disabled. Funny 'cause I've never bought anything or traded with it. But it's just a mule, so whatever. Still funny though.

They need to fix the "oldest" cases first, disabled pass is okay up to 3 months, after 3 months it's not okay. Gaia needs more people working on it.

A way to know why that rule is there?

Almost every TOS has that rule. For example, Livejournal's:
LiveJournal
XI. TERMINATION

You agree that LiveJournal, in its sole discretion, may terminate your password, journal, or account, and remove and discard any content within the Service, for any reason, including and without limitation, the lack of use, or if LiveJournal believes that you have violated or acted inconsistently with the letter or spirit of the TOS.

You can check all the avatar sites like Solia or Roliana or Menewsha or whatever else is out there theses days. They'll all have a line just like that. It's a common part of internet service provider terms of service boilerplate. As to why, it's to cover their a**. Nevertheless, it is almost never actually used, because there's almost always a good reason for account termination.

I mean, what else do you want to know? Ask a lawyer why CYA lines exist in contracts. Or take some law classes to find out yourself.

Oh okay... for some reason I was under the impression that fell under hacking (tricking people into giving out their passes and such)... but I guess that makes sense. Sorry... sweatdrop
