I decided I wasn't depressed enough and did the math for that new Aurora Kitten. (Copypasta'd from the other thread)

37,500,000 gold at minimum. Without knowing how much that ******** purple crystal is, it's 37.5 million gold to craft one item.

One.

********.

Item.

Let me put it in perspective even more.

One RIG bundle sells easily for 1 million on opening day.

One RIG bundle costs 999 GC.

999 GC costs $9.99 American.

That puts the cat's value at just over...

$374.62.

You could buy 100 cups of coffee cheaper.

********.

HARDCORE ********]

Eh, aren't the costs of the four Kitten Stars 14 million, 6.5 million, 25 million, and 14 million, respectively?
So wouldn't it cost more like 60 million, not counting the Double Rainbows, the crystal thingy, and the crafting fee? XD

An arm, a leg and your firstborn child if it's a rainbow kitten star you're after. xd

That's exactly what I said! XD

on a side not: WHY is it so hard to put out a nice item that's not super rare to get, why can't they make these damn backwings the users have been wanting for years, and do it so anyone can get them with hard work, I mean what's so hard about that? Not everything has to be "only the super lucky ones who buy shitloads of cash will get this item"

I suppose if you wanted to be on Gaia playing booty grab for the rest of your life to get enough gold, you could get backwings solely via hard work.

I miss when Gaia was more about story and community.

Not money and who can get the rarest items.

I agree with this.

I really enjoyed the 2004-2006 plotlines, heck, even 07 was kind of fun, I still look back fondly at G-Corp and the shootout/forum tag events. Not to mention the writing, while simple, was really endearing, you -cared- about these characters and what happened to them, Trial of Ian for instance.

but now, heck I don't even know half the NPC's that are showing up, they have next to no personality, and only serve for artists to go "LOOK HOW PRETTY AI DRAW PEOPLE KAWAII DESUUUUU"

Reapersun: Prime Example.

Seriously, I liked Gaia when I joined, I even liked it when the cash shop started.

But now that Gaia's buried itself in it's own poorly-thought out get-rich-quick schemes, and it's obvious that it's never going to take accountability for it's own bad decisions, blaming the userbase instead, for instance, I'm done. I met my wife on this site, my daughter wouldn't be alive right now if it wasn't for Gaia, I have no idea how to express just how disappointed I am with words, or actions.

And every time Gaia does something, I always wince, because I know the site I loved is being desecrated even further for need of quick-earned coin.

I don't know how Lanzer can sleep at night seeing what's become of this site, much less how he can defend what it's doing to his loyal users, who have been here from the start.

Exactly.
As a matter of fact I was reading back through all the old storyline mangas and such like the ones about the Zurg. I remember when that was going on and remembering how cool it was that they even included a group of Gaians whom weren't admins or something in the manga and story.

I actually went to bed wondering what would happen when I logged in the next day. Sure the EI reports were exciting for a while but in the long run people enjoy a good story.
One major issue is that certain ingredients are worth more than the final result.
The second major issue is that eventually certain ingredients will be exhausted which further limits user participation.

The last issue is that the developer said that the artists complained about the complexity of making back wings therefore they liked that they are hard to get. I don't know which part of this statement is more obscene the fact that artists feel that back wings are "complex" or that they are enjoying Gaian's destroying several years worth of earnings in an attempt to get them.

I don't care that Gaia is now a big business but I do care about how customers are treated. Features should be fun for everyone regardless of how long they have been playing or how much gold they've accumulated - and this is coming from a member since 2004.

Wait, so do they have to re-draw them every time another user gets them? Otherwise, I can't see why the artists should even care about the difficulty to get complicated items. (And, really, if you have to put that much work into them, wouldn't you rather a larger number of people can have (and appreciate) all the work you did? "I spent a lot of time and effort on this, so now you can't have it. Neener-neener-neener." just doesn't seem like a good way to go about being an artist, y'know?)

Of course, when you consider how many other wings they've done - and, more to the point, screwed up by not utilizing the proper 3/4 perspective - one has to wonder if they'll end up doing the same here...

Actually I suspect this is what the plan is. Getting people further addicted to Gaia and trying to keep them on for as many long hours as possible.

Same reaction. Thank you for putting it in words.
Gaia really should be ashamed of themselves. Since when did this website become an exclusive club for the wealthy?
that's exactly what i thought!!
Gaia only helps the rich get richer

Yeah, I really didn't understand that statement. They're a pixel item like every other pixel item, for god's sake it's not that damned hard. I used to do freelance pixel item art for a few avatar websites and it seriously is not that hard to do.

I guess some part of me expected backwings to be obtainable by anyone who wanted to put the work in, but as I stated in another post the only way to conceivably work enough is to dedicate all of your free time to Gaia to get enough gold- and that's assuming that, as another user pointed out, the items required for creation would still exist by the time you got enough gold to make it all.

I think that the staff has really lost sight of what this place used to be. For some reason they seem to really intensely dislike us, despite the fact that without the users there would be no Gaia. And no matter how many thank you threads, or statements, posts etc they get they always seem to dislike us just the same. Like we smell or something.

So the formula for the Aurora Kitten Star has been found and the recipe has been revealed.
I find this to be ridiculous you must sacrifice three little kittens.
