[ GENERAL RULES ]
Treat all others with respect. Follow the golden rule, don't be a drama llama or feed the green monster, etc, etc.

Please read the front page and other relevant guild threads before posting a question. We try to answer most questions on the first page or in appropriate topics in the guild.

Please do not steal, edit, or claim the artwork as your own. Any violators will be reported and deported and possibly thread to a very hungry group of halflings. Minor modifications and silly/obvious edits for signatures are fine.

Read the roleplaying rules before roleplaying. In short, follow all basic roleplaying etiquette and use your common sense.

The Deep Vale is a low-lying river valley, surrounded by dense trees to the north and east and rugged wetland to the south. The Viridian Lake to the far north empties its belly into the river that divides the forests in two and feeds the tumultuous rushes of the south. Long ago, the river was thrice as wide and fast as it is now, and the wet Rushlands to the west were submerged as part of the Frogfoot Delta. But as the Viridian Lake dried, the Frogfoot River slowed and thinned and the Deep Vale formed.

The Silverwood Forest covers most of the valley formed from the coursing Frogfoot River. Long ago, the River was thrice as wide and fast as it is now, and the wet Rushlands to the west were submerged as part of the Frogfoot Delta. But as the Viridian Lake dried, the Frogfoot River slowed and thinned and the Deep Vale formed.

[ The Frogfoot River ] - The Frogfoot River, named for the webbing of rivulets that separates the Silverwood forest from the Rushlands, is a fierce, icy cold river that severs the Silverwood in two. In the winter, small patches of ice make for a treacherous journey across the river, but in all other seasons, the river is too swift to cross for any land-born creatures.

[ The Silverwood Forest ] - A dark, tall evergreen forest born from the wet soil of the Frogfoot River. The light is unchanging in the gloom beneath the trees. Halflings of the Deep Vale live primarily in the Silverwood, hunting lesser creatures and whittling clever craft from the pine.

[ The Rushlands ] - Once submerged as part of the Frogfoot Delta, the Rushlands are now seasonal wetlands, covered head-high in water during harsh winters and cracked dry in the summer. In the spring, birds cover the water and make raucous laughter. Only a few halflings have successfully crossed the Frogfoot River into the bountiful Rushlands, but it can be easy living.

Halflings are the dominant predatory species of the Deep Vale. They came from the far
reaches of the Viridian Lake, following the Frogfoot River until the end of the Silverwood
Forest, and made their flocks in the heavy boughs of giant pines and evergreen.

Most halflings are communal creatures, living in small flocks of 5 - 10 individuals.
They are usually headed by a mated pair, who are the strongest in the flock.

It is said that over the years, after long exposure to the strange woods,
some Halflings have grown connected to the forest in a way beyond mind and instinct.

Groups of halflings are known as a flock. Halflings often form flocks as a form of social
communication and foraging success. Flocks can be as small as two members (a mated
pair) or over thirty, although this is rarely seen. Larger flocks are considered more powerful
than nomadic, familial flocks, and hold actual territories in the Deep Vale.

All flocks mark territory by easily recognizable, claw-scratched symbols.
These symbols are a mark of pride and belonging to the flocks that claim them.
