Net Neutrality is being threatened again. And just because , it is happening again , it is no reason to have a defeatist attitude.

Some fights, are long fights.

What pisses me OFF is the shady tactics they are using . Voting Near the Holidays , so that people don't respond/object ?

https://www.techdirt.com/articles/20171023/10383838460/fcc-likely-to-use-thanksgiving-holiday-to-hide-unpopular-plan-to-kill-net-neutrality.shtml

The new proposal will be a bigger damage than what happened with Equifax . It is not JUST about net neutrality . It is about the security of the United States and everyone's rights . It is about control . The ISP/media corporations want it . They want to be monopolies . They want to take control from the Government. And as messed up as that sounds ..... REMEMBER , that the Constitution states that " WE " are the Government . It is " WE , The People " who should decide about our online rights, privacy rights. NOT , some major corporations whose only loyalty is to the money they make.

Quote:
TL;DR:
WHO? The FCC, Congress, & Federal Communications Commission Chairman Ajit Pai

WHAT? Remove existing federal rules to allow private, for-profit corporations to throttle back internet speeds based on how much you are willing or able to pay them.

WHERE? Centered in Washington D.C. but truly across the entire country

WHEN? November 22, 2017 (DON'T GET DISTRACTED BY THE HOLIDAY!)

WHY? Because telecommunication corporations want to grab as much money as they can from you EVERY MONTH by lobbying for a currently illegal practice to become legal.

A letter from the FCC Chairman :
https://www.fcc.gov/document/chairman-pai-proposes-restore-internet-freedom

The Proposal :
https://www.fcc.gov/restoring-internet-freedom

Do you want to leave a comment on the matter ? : https://www.fcc.gov/restoring-internet-freedom-comments-wc-docket-no-17-108

Want to call your representative in Washington DC ? http://clerk.house.gov/member_info/ttd.aspx ( look for your state )

If you can find the actual " proposal" / Law that the vote is going to be on i would appreciate a Link. AN Official link would be ideal.

Thank you for your attention.

It's too late for comments. The Fed Register for this was closed a while back. It was an NPRM - Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2017/06/02/2017-11455/restoring-internet-freedom).

It would modify the existing regulation at: 47 CFR 20 and 47 CFR 8.

There were a few. It was months ago though. And from the sounds of it Ajit isn't really listening to anyone anyway. He has certain good points about why the internet shouldn't be regulated like a utility (the government can nationalize it in times of need for one), but he doesn't appear to me to be anything but a lobbyist, corporatist shill based on the other comments he's made and rules he supports since he joined the FCC earlier this year.

Pretty much, yeah.
He used to work for one of the companies that wants net neutrality dead, so that doesn't help.
People of the internet across the globe hate the guy.

You are correct.
Once upon a time, he was a lawyer under Verizon, one of two major companies against Net Neutrality.
So, along with doing trump's bidding in undoing anything Obama touched, he also gains favor with Verizon with this.

Honestly, I wish someone would just take that stupid mug from him and smack his smug face with it.

Fashionable Genius

I am up early this morning again and listening to the news (again as always) and was listening about this as I sit here in front of my computer (it's in the living room and I have the tv on)

Hearing what whats-his-face was saying about it, I call bullshit!

You all wanna know what this really is about? MONEY! They want the freedom to raise the prices and suck as much money out of our pockets as they can with little to no regulation! All while controlling even more than they do now, how much speed and bandwidth they will allow us as per the "privilege" based on how much we pay them their extortion. Given the amount of advertisements we are forced to deal with, even on this site, do you have any idea what this will do to even those of us who have fast computers.other devices and fast internet? Wont even matter how much space we have on our devices. Even worse for those who are gamers.

Questionable Codger

I guess if they kill it, there's only one thing you might want to think about; How much extra are you willing to pay to get reasonable access to Gaia? I'm sure ISP's don't consider Gaia lucrative enough to grant much more than dial-up access to for the peons.

That logic only follows if you think it''s impossible to have free speech without the internet. Which would also mean no one had free speech prior to the 1990s, pretty much.
