What is your stance on Homosexuality?

I have a feeling that according to your response I will be able to irrefutably prove that you are, or concede that you are not, a bigot.

I am not a bigot, I am not prejudice against Christians, I have many good Christian friends and have had many civilised debates with many good Christians, but from my experience so far you are not one of them, you're a hateful bigoted Christian, as you've posted nothing but hate. ironic, coming from a religion who's God commands love of all.
I take it that your aversion to answering the question means you know it will show you off as a bigot?

You presume too much. My roomate is a homosexual. My stance is the same as my churche's stance, The Church of Scotland which you may google for yourself. We believe that all people are God's children and are equally loved by God.

Maybe you are thinking of Jerry Falwell? He was Baptist. I cannot speak for Baptists, however many Baptists I know were not fond of the Reverend Falwell. Now he has died, I am sure he has had a lot of s'plainin' to do. cool

Sorry I could respond as quickly as you had expected me too. I am not camping on this thread.

Now, please rather than prejudice, show me where I have given you any reason to prejudge who I am based only upon my confessing to be Presbyterian at at St. Andrews College (one of the oldest colleges in Europe, established in the 15th century) and one of the most prestigious theological seminaries in the world. I am here on a partial scholarship, for my father is deceased any my widowed mother is not wealthy, only educated enough to have done a fine job educating me.

Get out of town biggrin I actually went to College in the same town as Mr. Falwells "University". I was actually given the wonderfull opportunity to spit in my palm and then shake his hand.

But that was wishing him good luck you know! wink

no, I got a lot of bogies it there. And the "go to hell" I slipped in probably got the point across. Whats funny is that I told him to go to hell, and he did! smile
Seraphor
The reason you have given me to prejudge you is your earlier posts.
You may not be a bigot, but you have shown yourself up as hateful due to your earlier hateful posts, intent on nothing but calling out the non-Christians in this thread as bigots. Or at least that's how you made it seem, and it was consistent, consistent enough for me to call you out on your over-extensive use of the word.
Pretentious posts attempting to claim a Christian monopoly on past successes. Just because most of the people who shaped the western world were Christian is not supportive evidence for Christianity being true, it merely shows Christianity has always been popular in the western world.

No Seraphor, my posts were not "hateful" they were passionately in defense of a bigoted attack and presumption made by another Avi. Go back and check it out. I did not "make it seem" your prejudices created a filter by which you viewed my posts and thereby, "made it seem."

I am not pretending anything. Nor did I say Christians have a monopoly. The fact is women came to power in the thrones of Europe due in large to Christianity. Before Christianity the only royal power women had was via their sons coming to power. Then as Queen Mother of the Royal King, they had power. The wives of Kings did not have power because Kings were married to multiple women, not to just one. Christianity brought one woman to one man for the protection and empowerment of women as the roles were in those days and beyond.

Mentioning Queen St. Margaret is to remind us that women were powerful in Europe while elsewhere they had little power with a few notable exceptions, such as Cleopatra. The succession of power among women is credited to Christianity.

Look for example at the problesm of Benazir Bhutto who was deposed of power by the Islamic radicals who did not want a woman in power in an Islamic Country. Even now, Musharif, who is supposedly a democratically elected leader, has taken steps to lock Bhutto into her own home so she cannot attend rallies by her supporters who wish to elect her the next Prime Minister of Pakistan after her long exhile.

She is being mistreated and locked out just for being female.

Christianity may not be something, you prefer but that does not mean there is nothing to its credit. Quite the contrary, there is much to credit Christianity for but you simply have not been exposed to this information as have I.

Also this is not the "prove Christianity" thread. This is a different topic about "why." I came here to talk about why but before I could do so, I had to clear up a few misunderstandings.

You are hilarious! But I hate to tell you that the more gunk the more luck. Stepping in horseshit is the luckiest thing ever! Didn't you see that episode of the Sopranos? Anyway they say this kind of thing in Europe. If a pigeon poops on you it is good luck. If you sit down on spit, it is good luck.

I am not the judge of who is going to hell. That is the kind of judgment Jesus told us not to make. Silly!

nice story, but you can't prove any of it.

EDIT: wait, you were 11 and you wanted to commit suicide? You need a shrink, not a church.

This post is a bigoted attack on someone who has a propensity for suicide. Why would you say "nice story, but you can't prove it" to a suicidal person unless you are a cold heartless scumbag? Just wondering. I suppose it is because her lifeline is a church and you don't like churches. Hence even though religion has given her a reason to live, you hate religion so much that you would rather she got depressed than to let her have what makes her feel better.

Saying "you need a shrink, not a church" makes me think that you are arrogant and heartless. Do you know that many psychologists actually refer suicides to churches when they cannot help them. Alcoholics Anonymous developed the 12 step program using an Ignatian Meditation program (based upon Roman Catholicism) and which requires a higher power to succeed. By "working the program" people with various problems from alcoholism, to suicide can work out their problems. But one thing they all need to do this is a "higher power" even atheist AA requires that one seek and identify a higher power to surrender to.

It is surrendering that helps people to get past the idea that they are "bad" that life is hopeless and that they have no meaning in their lives. Psychologists cannot always help and Psychiatrists will give prescriptions for antidepressents, just like any MD can also do. But talk therapy has done very little, clinically for suicidal people.

Therefore I must conclude that you are a heartless a$$ who, if she said chocolate saved her life would then tell her chocolate will make her fat for you really have no nobility nor compassion nor knowledge and insight to you.

Or else your anti-religious bigotry just outweighs ever other potentially good and noble thing about you. Remember yourself and how you treated others the next time you have a bad day.

I'm afraid the Christian Bigotry far outweighs any anti-Christian bigotry currently present in this thread.

Cute bird, but you did not support your argument. That cartoon is not a debate.
Neither is:
'Open your eyes you fool, can't you see that everything great that has ever occurred is due to Christianity?
My snobbish upbringing has allowed me to see the truth!
You're a bigot because you're not a Christian!'

[Insert pretty Renaissance Painting]

'That was painted by a Christian! Irrefutable proof that Christianity is the truth!'

Back at you babe, with [Insert stereotyping cartoon strip here]

I put the picture of Queen St. Margaret because, yes, it is pretty. Also she is a strong powerful woman. Do you have a problem with strong powerful women?
I have conclusively proven that I in no way deserved the prejudice of the other Avatars, that I am not bigoted, only Christian and that majority of the posts from the time I entered until I now leave, were directed against me, calling me a fundamentalist, which I am not, calling me hateful, which I am not nor did I demonstrate, therefore, if you have integrity you will concede these and in future think more carefully before you make such claims against another Christian.

I am a Christian..and most people here dont believe in the Almighty God.Do you want to know why I believe in Him? Well..personally I dont care what you think but here goes..
He created the ground we walk on today and He gave all of us choices. His Son died for us and is now and always has given us a choice: to believe on His Son or to join the devil and stay within our sins. The reason why God rebukes us is because of sin. It is a disgusting thing when you choose not to take within what God has done for you.He gave us His Son that we might be clean of the unrighteous sin we`ve beheld in our lives. And God had to suffer as well as His Son for there,on the cross He had to watch while His Son was beaten and cursed at when all His Son wanted was for us to have a choice.
Now heres what really hit me. I`d be going to hell and burn into an everlasting fire. And I`d deserve it.But His Son Died!! How would you feel if you knew someone who had to give up there child for unworthy, dirty people who wont even bother with him.So youve heard what I gotta say.And if youre going to say something mean or rude..dont even bother then..

I know lots of people out there who have givin up thier sons to protect you. They are called mothers and fathers of GIs. I know you never think about the men and women who are over in Iraq getting killed everyday so you can write you lies on the internet. My husband is there now, but because they are over there dying for you but you give all the glory to god and christ.

I would say the ones you should be worhsiping are the people dying for your freedoms. Not for your sins.

I believe in God and on your Son because they are my hope, because I believe in a better world, because I can be better than i am, because I believe the people can be best.

This it was the best option of my life, the best choice, I know I´m certain and one day all world will be seeing with yours eyes, so will be a good day for few peoples and too late for a many peoples.

I chose be Christian no only for believe in God or for fear of the hell, as fear I have of God. I chose be Christian for be a life philosophy.

sorry for my poor english and ... be with God and Jesus.
To me it is sweet being a Christian, especially this time of year! I kinda have a love-hate relationship with the Puritan Pilgrims. For one thing I love reading Cotton Mather's sermons about demonology, because they are so quaint, but when I think about the Salem hysteria and how ordinary women were hung because of some mischief some teen girls got up to I am sorta' thinking it is not much different that today.

But I love the fact that we romanticize this holiday and that we have this tradition where we make friends with the Native Americans who helped the early colonists survive. Without trade in furs with the Natives and without their knowledge of planting native plants such as corn the Pilgrims would have starved and frozen as did many other expeditions before them.

I love traditions like these, not naive about the problems we caused, which human impact always has upon native cultures and the forests and otherwise upon the environment, but we also have this great tradition of conservation which came to us from Christians such as Teddy Roosevelt. We have inherited the idea of stewardship of the earth in a form that is not really different from that of the best Native traditions. I think that it is awesome that there were so many Native Americans to help us and who converted to Christianity via the Catholic Jesuit Fathers who visited the Americas.

I love the Turkey, the pies, the baking bread, the good wine and all the laughter and joy of this Season! I wish for all of you who read this post the very best of Traditions, no matter which ones you embrace. Most of all I wish you good eating and much love where ever and whomever you may be!

Joy to the World!
I converted to Christianty when I was an adult and I LOVE it! I am Roman Catholic and I ADORE being a Roman Catholic and so do my children. We hug each other with JOY everyday for being Roman Catholic and being part of such a huge sacred tradition with the most beautiful sacred music in all the world. We attend an amazing parish that has a gorgeous liturgy. I love the Cathedrals of Christianity. I love the Eucaristic Lord.

Catholic means universal or "the whole" as we are linked totally to all that it means to be part of the Body of Christ. This means the people of God who reach back in time to the earliest known cultures! It is so exciting to know that I am a part of this great Body and that I too will play out my part in this.

I love that JRR Tolkein is a Catholic and that the LOTR is so popular and teaches so much about Catholicism and Christianity and what it means to struggle for a noble cause that sometimes looks hopeless. This is what our Lord did for us. By dyng in infamy they way that Jesus did he set a precendent for us to follow. To not fear shame and rebukes and torture and people's hatred, but to embrace it all as good and to love people even while they are our enemies. This is a revolutionay idea that Ghandi embraced after reading the Christian writings of GK Chesterton's book, "The Everlasting Man." Ghandi regained India for the Indians and deposed the British Colonialists through passive resistance and non-violence oppostion which is the highest ideal of what Jesus taught to us. Yes, for we are to defend the weak and helpless, but we are not to defend ourselvse. There are just wars when we are fighting to protect the innocent and defenseless. We must be brave to accept our own crosses and not to fight against those who would speak against us.

Roman Catholic Christianity has struly been the reason for the rise in European civilization and must duly be credited for most of the advances in science and the arts which our European culture has provided for us. There is no science that Catholic's fear only the misuse of information to harm the faith of little ones, for it is better that we should die than to cause a little child who love Jesus to stumble. This means we accept Cosmology and Organic Human Evolution, but we deny that God is not the first cause. This is how Galileo got placed on house arrest in his friends magnificent palace is because he went against the advice of the Cardinals to not universally publish the findings of his dear friend (These were not Galileo's findings) and to bring them to the fore when there were so many illiterate fearful peasants who still cowered during an eclipse. No one doubted Galileo was correct, they just asked him to hold off until the people were ready for the information. I learned this from reading the diaries of his daughter that were complied by a Jewish scholar, so I know my information is accurate as it came from an unbiased source.

Everybody who reads this, please prepare to have a lovely Thanksgiving and kiss your dear mother's hand if she is living, and if she is not living kiss someone else. Also be very kind to your dear grandparents for you may not have them much longer and you will be glad after that you were kind to them on this special Thanksgiving Day of 2007!!!
I wonder, can I write as an Athiëst or non believer here without getting slandered or being called a bigot?

I do not proclaim that there is nothing out there, I just don't believe in any of the established ones. I have no need for a god, I take responsibilities for my own actions and not as some (not all) christians do who point towards God and their believe that he ordered them to do so.

It is just plain ignorance and stupidity to think that Christianity is above all other religions. Logic comes to play here. All religions are based on one thing, blind faith. There is no evidence of any kind to support any of the religions, which includes Christianity.

Furthermore, what would you say if I would tell you that I believed in a theecup out in space? (from Richard Dawkins 'The God Delusion'. It is a great book, everybody should read it.) Would you proclaim me mad because I believed in something you don't belief, would you tell me that there is no evidence to back it up?

How does me believing in a theecup differ from your belief? Because it is in essence the same thing, a belief in something that can not or has up till now not been proven.

Why would God, if he existed, send me to Hell just because I do not believe in him? He gave us free will did he not, to chose for ourself which includes the free will to believe or not believe as we please. Why would he punish us for something he gave us himself, a choice.

Is it not arrogant to presume that you are right and we are wrong just because you said so or because of an outdated book. Christianity is a belief that formed but a small part of the history of mankind. Pagans, the Greek and Roman Gods, etc. existed before Christianity and like many others have pointed out, Christianity has assimilated a lot of the Pagan believes and holidays into its own religion, it basicly(sp?) stole from other religions, which is a sin is it not?

If God did exist, why did he not come down to earth when there pagans or the Greek and Roman Gods where worshipped and let the people know that he was the only one and that they should worship him.

I wonder what you would do when you die and you go to where you are to be judged and not your Christian god would be there waiting for you but Allah or Anubis. What would you do then? Scream at them that they aren't gods or at least not the god you believed in?
hmm..all of you people who are asking for proof..you have a good point..i will go gather my 'proof' for you all..And please this is a discussion, you dont need to be calling each other names or making a rude remark at each other..its unnessesary..focus on the discussion not the the person..

Noora, I love you. heart Your one of those religious people who try not to hate others for having other belifes. I guess if you did, there wouldnt be much of a way for you to be friends with this old pagan here huh! But alot of christians i have met come upon me with hatred and even sometimes sorrow. They come upon me as if im a devil worhipper. But they have no clue where thier religion came from.

So, I have come up with a name with what i believe in. Its called Solarism. I know its not a real name i just came up with it on my way home! Lol But its a religion for those who worship the sun and the earth. Without either nothing could live on earth.

Really, you are probably christian because you were raised that way.

Had you been born in, say, India, you might be Muslim or Hindu.

Interesting Shapeshifter

wait. where was god when my friend was killed by a drunk driver? WHERE was god when not just my friend her her parents (all were in the same car) were killed. WHERE WAS GOD when I was almost killed by the SAME drunk driver that was let go with a slap on the wrists because he paid the judge off? HUH. don't give me that "when god closes a door he opens a window/works in mysterious ways" BULLSHIT

When god does something right we praise him, when tragedy happens "he works in myserious ways" right....your god fails many people...it falls down to this. People who have no hope and no faith go to god because it is something to believe in. Well for me and possibly MANY others he has failed us and left us alone. and I don't mean physically alone.

I mean that none of your so called friends not even your family knows you anymore. You've been forecully isolated because you've reached a certain level where you don't care (you being in general not specific DUH) whoever you loved that made it worth living for is gone and will be gone. And that said person is in hell because she either commited suicide or did not repent. Thats just bullshit.

The ONLY person I ever loved, the only reason for everything being worth living for good and bad is GONE, and call me cowardice if you will, but I don't have it in me to commit suicide. I just have it in me to make everyone else open their eyes to the PAINFUL truth.

I already know I'm going to hell, I've been through enough LOONEY churches (Like Good News Church which really IS a cult) and I am not worth saving. OH YES i've had this told to me TO MY FACE. what do you have to say to that?

go ahead condemn me along with everyone else
