"Hi there. I've never been here before. What's really popular?"

Dankin smiled again at his customer's question.
Indeed, he had never seen her before.
Dankin remembered every pretty girl who entered his establishment, and this face was unfamiliar.

"Well hello there!", Dankin smirked. "If you're new here, I'd recommend one of our classic glaze donuts, people buy 'em by the dozen here. But if you want something a little more decadent, I'd suggest a slice of our "Dr. Blotto's Cheescake".

Dankin then hoisted a small bag of coffee beans onto the counter and opened it to release their striking aroma.

"And our "Durem Dark" blend is a nice strong cup of Jo if you like your coffee with a kick!" wink , Dankin finished with a smile and a wink.

(( Your description of the café interior was inspired! You're a good writer! 3nodding ))

“Well, I have it worked out to be there every other day, so I don’t miss out on too much of what’s going on back home. Aside from that, I’ll leave the rest of your planning between you two."

"Well..." Ara said as Cara took off with the dishes. She pulled out her mobile and consulted her schedule.

"Most days are a 'no' for me, especially with the weather we're having." Glancing out the window, past Natalie, Ara could see the citizens of Barton milling about, pointing and gazing up at the perpetually cloudless sky. "But, I can move my schedule around in the evenings. Fridays excluded, of course. What's best for you?"

Monster Spouse

As Natalie replied, Ara suddenly felt the hair rise on the back of her neck and glanced around, suspiciously. Then, she saw what else her haze had caused her to miss, another monster (this one, without a human disguise!) huddled up, sipping a milk tea in the corner. This type of monster wasn't familiar to Ara (that is, it wasn't any land or sea type she recognized) and she quickly turned back to the table —staring directly at a monster was too often an excellent way to pick a fight.

Ara might stop to say 'hi' on her way out, if the new monster seemed open to being approached.

"That smell is just so lovely!" she said as she leaned a bit closer to the bag the barista had produced, making sure to keep her neon-dipped locks from falling into it. The beans shone like black beads under the coffee bar lights, with a slight oil-slick sheen--a sign of good quality--and an earthy, nutty fragrance she'd be content to live in.

Vii contemplated a moment. "I do like cheesecake, but that might be a bit too rich for me. So I'll try one of your famous glazed donuts and a cup of that Durem Dark to wash it down, please."

She pulled a slim billfold from her pocket and produced a few notes, stealing a glance around the shop as she did so. It seemed fairly popular, with a smattering of patrons engaging in light banter and hushed discussions strewn amongst the tables.

"I usually like my coffee very blonde and sweet, but whenever I try a new blend, I like to try it plain at least once to let it shine through and speak for itself. Only seems fair to judge it for what it is, right?"

((Aww thank you! ^-^ It's been a long while since I last RP'd but I figured I should pop in after receiving one of your gracious gifts. c: So thank you for the treat too!))

"Ah, the good lord sent me a woman of taste, I see!", Dankin said playfully. "One black Durem Dark and a glazed donut coming up!"

Dankin quickly turned and set to work.
He prepared a cup and saucer before reaching into his display case with his tongs and plating a single glazed donut.
After he had prepared the snack, Dankin returned to the waiting cup and saucer and filled it carefully with freshly ground Durem Dark coffee.
He then presented the coffee and donut to his guest and graciously accepted her payment.

"There we are, enjoy!", Dankin said with a smile.

User Image"Enjoy, koala!", Mana echoed as he fluttered from side to side.

So Cara was working every other day because of the time difference between here and her home world. That would still give Natalie plenty of chances to pop by, though! And Ara was free every evening except Friday, though she didn't think days were a good idea because of the weather. Which meant that Ara wasn't too fond of direct sunlight...Natalie thought fleetingly of her vampire friends, some of whom were okay in sunlight while others had to cover up and carry parasols if they wanted to go out in the daytime. But then again, I'm definitely getting some kind of "ocean creature" vibe from her, so maybe she prefers the deep? Ara was definitely a mystery, and while Natalie was curious as all-get-out--and could probably use Agency files if she really wanted to--Natalie was going to respect her new friend's privacy. If Ara wasn't hurting anybody, there was no reason to go poking around in her private life, right?

"I'm free just about any evening myself!" Natalie remarked. "But here's my phone number--" which she wrote on a napkin using a pen she'd pulled out of a hidden pocket in her dress--"if you wanted to arrange somethin' for this week. And of course I'll let you know if work calls me in for a night shift!"

Cara and Ara each left, and a glance at the clock showed Natalie that it was now time for her to leave too, so she could get to the office and put these boxes of donuts in the break room before it was time to get to work! She gently put Luna back down on the floor after giving the wolf puppy a final scritch and a kiss on the top of her head, and then she gathered up her things--including those scrumptious-smelling boxes of donuts!--and skedaddled. "Bye you guys!" she called out to Dankin and Mana. "Thanks again!" And then she was out the door, off to the office.

Cara ver Hold

Ara wondered if Natalie realized that her brows had a way of knitting together when she was thinking deeply and, for a moment, Ara thought she might've made some mistake or given away something that that couldn't be glossed over. But, then Natalie pulled out a pen and scrawled a number on a napkin.

Perfect! Ara picked up the napkin and examined the number as she stood to leave; was it her imagination or were the first numbers somewhat familiar? She caught sight of Cara chatting up No-name Charming over by the counter and smiled to herself.

Dankin

Pushing her dark hair behind an ear and giving a farewell nod to Dankin and Mana, Ara lifted her oversized sweater over her head and held it above, using it for shade from the Solstice as she skipped out the door with a 'later' to rest of the customers.

As Ara made her way through the simmering haze, she caught a glimpse of the dumpster in the streets behind Dankin's Café. Over its rim draped the pitiful half of a deflated shark costume. On the shop walls above, the words, "SCREW CHOMPY! FeAr ThE SoLsTiCe!" dripped freshly red across the stones.

Wolven Bird

Ara frowned. She'd have to remember to say something to Alex about all this vandalism if she ran into them again.

((You’re all amazing~ emotion_kirakira Thank you))

Briefly from the corner of his gaze Cor observed the interactions between Dankin, Mana, and the new customers visiting the cafe'. Once he felt there was no danger among anyone nearby he simply went back to nibbling on his donut and zoning out.

Cara ver Hold

The tapping feel on his shoulder instantly startled Cor. He had no clue that he'd zoned out so much that he didn't hear Cara approach. It took some deep breaths to calm his racing heartbeat back to normal while he paused to regain his composure. Now snapped back to reality he gestured to the empty chair across from him with a small wave of his hand. If Cara wished to join him at the table he won't mind at all. You read my mind. I agree that formal introductions are much overdue. "A pleasure to make your acquaintance, Cara ver Hold. Such a fitting name. I am Cor of the Nox Fleuret family," he properly introduced himself. "And the fur ball whose grown quite fond of you is my companion, Luna-"

Without hesitation the outlaw pup playfully scampered back over to Cara. Bounding over with her tail wagging so fast it looked like a blur, she whimpered and pawed at Cara's feet for more attention. "aarrf aarrf aarrr"

Noticing a few times how similar his eye color was to this lovely young lady, the brunette soldier nodded in reply to her following question. Cara's curiosity on the matter didn't bother him at all. "Indeed I did inherit my eyes from my mother... or so I've been told. Unfortunately I never knew her. My father raised me and spoke little about who she was." Taking another bite of his donut he fixed his gaze on Cara and gave a small, curious tilt of his head. "May I assume that your pretty eyes are hereditary as well?"

Mademoiselle Alvinette

Luna was so caught up in the blissful moment that she didn't feel Natalie shifting at first. But as soon as her paws touched the floor she gave a heartbroken whimper. Had it already been time for Natalie, Ara, and Cara to depart from their quick get-together? The sadness was suddenly lifted with one final scratch and kiss on top of her forehead. "aarrf aarrff" the outlaw pup barked and cooed, wagging her fluff of a tail playfully. Scampering a few steps forward she followed Natalie a short distance to the door and bided farewell with one more bark as if to say 'see you soon!'. "aaarf"

Hearing the commotion of his furry companion, Cor gave a quick wave and small nod. Swallowing a mouthful of donut there were a few crumbs that fell onto the table top. "See you around, take care." Not wanting to intrude on the lovely ladies earlier he felt that soon he'll be able to have a proper visit with Natalie over some snacks and drinks.

Arashisora

In a similar manner as saying bye to Natalie only a second ago, Luna scampered behind Ara see her off as well. "aarrf" the pup barked playfully again and saw her to the door before disappearing back into the cafe' (and over to Cara once more).

"Talk to you soon," Cor bided another goodbye after swallowing this bite of delicious donut. Only this time he tried not to make another crumbly mess all over the table. That's when he realized he forgot to ask Ara about Shallow Seas. Damn it! he cursed under his breath for missing the chance to ask. Today was definitely not one of his better days.

Occasional Truths's One That Got Away

Aged Gaian

thanks so much for the gift!! ill check yall out later heart

Cor had a way of zoning out, though last time it was more or less due to blood loss. Cara couldn’t assume what might be distracting his mind so today. However, she would take the offered seat and eventually giggle as she scooped up the affectionate puppy and give her all sorts of scritches and nuzzles while the two humans conversed.

A fitting name, huh? She’d have to inquire his thoughts on that a bit later. “By the sounds of things, you must be from a prestigious family,” she stated openly while flipping Luna over in her arms so she could rub her belly. “You have such a sweetheart here in Luna. How long have the two of you been companions for?” Cara thought to ask, unsure if beasts and animals here aged differently than those from back home. If outlaw pups were magical in any sense, she imagined that like most mystical creatures they would have some kind of extended life, if not for illnesses or natural predators.

Hearing about Cor’s mother and his confirmation that his eye color was hereditary, Cara’s gaze would lower some. While her expression grew solemn, her hand made sure that Luna wouldn’t sense the change in the mood too much. The pup’s happiness should never be dampened by a lack of pettings. “I am sorry for your loss, sir,” she said sympathetically, even when he stated that he never really knew his mother. Cara could only imagine why his father might not speak so much of Cor’s mother. Be it a great loss that the father couldn’t overcome, or perhaps a sense of betrayal that he wished the boy to never know. She wouldn’t voice the inquiries she had on a matter, understanding that some family secrets should possibly remain as such.

She snorted at the compliment that Cor made towards her own eyes yet did not blush. “Yeah, I got them from my mother as well. But, purple is predominantly a female’s trait in eye coloration where I come from. If you’re a woman born with purple eyes, it means that there was a dhampir in your family lineage. The same can be said if you’re a male born with red eyes. Both my sister and I were born with purple eyes, and my brother has red. And the same can be said for my mother’s brothers and sisters, and our distant cousins and the like, leading all the way up to the man that started the ver Hold line. He was the dhampir,” she said with a wink and a snicker.
It is crowded.

Excuse me, sir, may I have a pot of black tea and some cream scones?

"No problem!", Dankin replied to his mysterious customer.

Dankin turned and quickly prepared a small teapot and produced two cream scones from his display case before placing them on a plate.

Once his task was complete he presented the order to his guest.

"That'll be two platinum coins, if you please." biggrin , Dankin said with a smile.

Demonic Hero

Addium and Hero enter the cafe.

The doors to the café slam open as two dark mysterious figures stand at the entry way. One of these figures was a demon with two large horns and a long black tail. He was dressed as a gunslinger from the old west; with two katanas equipped instead of guns. His long black coat swaying to the side of him from the breeze. He had black messy hair covered by a large black cowboy hat. Both of his eyes were hidden under this hat. All one could see was a nose, a deadpan frown, and a jaw with a stubble. He also had an old scar across his face. The other figure was an adult dog, specifically a black and tan German Shepherd, loyally standing beside him.

As the doors to the café slowly close behind them, both figures walk down the room; passing some tables, chairs, and people enjoying their delicious treats. Not paying mind to anyone, they both continue to walk; heel to toe, paw to nail. The sounds of his boots hitting against the floor after each step while his furry companion follows behind.

As both figures approach the counter, the demon turns his head slowly to see that the owner of the Café was dealing with another customer. He decides to wait patiently until he was finished. He looks at the menu, trying to decide what to order for himself and his dog. Meanwhile, the dog sits himself down on the floor next to his legs, watching the customers while he protects his master.
Addium

Noticing a new arrival enter the café, Dankin looked up.

He saw a demon garbed in western-style clothing make his way toward the counter.
In tow was a striking German Shepherd who followed its master with a certain grace and elegance.

User Image "Look Dankin! Doggy, koala!", Mana squeeked happily.

"I see him, Mana.", Dankin replied, humoring his assistant.

As Dankin finished serving a pot of tea and snacks to his previous customer he glanced back toward the gunslinger demon and his dog.

He couldn't make out any way of establishing eye-contact due to his guest's hat concealing everything but their nose and rugged jawline.

Dankin gave an uncertain wave in the direction of the demon and called out.

"Howdy!", Dankin called. "What'll it be, pardner?"

Dankin

Addium made a small uncomfortable sound from his throat as Dankin had called him ‘pardner’; trying his best not to laugh because of how stereotypical it sounded. He was going to make a comment, but he decided to ignore it and focus on what he came here for. He cleared his throat as he made up his mind, calling back to the owner.

-Ahem- I would like to have five of your Classic Glaze Donuts, one still water and one sparkling water to go, please.

Hero looked up at the floating Koala, tilting his head to the side as he watches him float about, unsure what to make of the magical creature. He had seen many other creatures before, but not this one in particular.
((It’s all good!))
