Cor had a way of zoning out, though last time it was more or less due to blood loss. Cara couldn’t assume what might be distracting his mind so today. However, she would take the offered seat and eventually giggle as she scooped up the affectionate puppy and give her all sorts of scritches and nuzzles while the two humans conversed.
A fitting name, huh? She’d have to inquire his thoughts on that a bit later.
“By the sounds of things, you must be from a prestigious family,” she stated openly while flipping Luna over in her arms so she could rub her belly.
“You have such a sweetheart here in Luna. How long have the two of you been companions for?” Cara thought to ask, unsure if beasts and animals here aged differently than those from back home. If outlaw pups were magical in any sense, she imagined that like most mystical creatures they would have some kind of extended life, if not for illnesses or natural predators.
Hearing about Cor’s mother and his confirmation that his eye color was hereditary, Cara’s gaze would lower some. While her expression grew solemn, her hand made sure that Luna wouldn’t sense the change in the mood too much. The pup’s happiness should never be dampened by a lack of pettings.
“I am sorry for your loss, sir,” she said sympathetically, even when he stated that he never really knew his mother. Cara could only imagine why his father might not speak so much of Cor’s mother. Be it a great loss that the father couldn’t overcome, or perhaps a sense of betrayal that he wished the boy to never know. She wouldn’t voice the inquiries she had on a matter, understanding that some family secrets should possibly remain as such.
She snorted at the compliment that Cor made towards her own eyes yet did not blush.
“Yeah, I got them from my mother as well. But, purple is predominantly a female’s trait in eye coloration where I come from. If you’re a woman born with purple eyes, it means that there was a dhampir in your family lineage. The same can be said if you’re a male born with red eyes. Both my sister and I were born with purple eyes, and my brother has red. And the same can be said for my mother’s brothers and sisters, and our distant cousins and the like, leading all the way up to the man that started the ver Hold line. He was the dhampir,” she said with a wink and a snicker.
