Don't know.
I had a feeling this would be a horrible disaster of a rescue mission. I'm really not good at fish :/
Wrong food maybe? Water too cold? I dunno. Googling has provided zero help.
Other than suggesting that the kiddos might have over fed them.

They're still moving but they're sort of floaty and lethargic.

I thought tadpoles were indestructible xd I'm sure it was never this complicated when we had massive tanks full of the little blighters at school!

the kids may be messing with them too much. see if the water temp is to cold and maybe clean the tank. if they are getting too much food, then the extra uneaten could be fouling the water up.
also found this off google:
"It is normal for them to become lethargic during metamorphosis, as many metabolic changes are taking place. If your tadpole seems a little listless please immediately change 1/4 of the water in the habitat with bottled spring water. Keep your tadpole at room temperature 68 - 72 degrees."
