I started reading homestuck last night. Pretty interesting. I might actually try and keep up with it.

Raging fans get one last bone tossed to them 10 years later when Hussie reveals who chained the cherub's ankles to the wall and split its personality, but by then, no one cares.

Congrats on persevering that far!! A good deal of it makes more sense as you go along.
In the early parts of Homestuck, Andrew took the time to write a lengthy, link-ridden explanation of what happened. Now he lets the fans do that for each other, and explains a little on his Tumblr. I guess.

was once a Player of The Game from The World Ends With You. Like Neku Sakuraba, he possessed such Imagination that he was able to win it easily and return to the world of the living. Whoever wins The Game will, upon returning to life, overflow with creativity.
Before his death, Hussie loved the game Earthbound. Many years and comics later, that game was the major inspiration for Homestuck, and his experience as a Player was another major source of inspiration. The many popcultural references. The music motif. The importance of death.

Aww but forreal tho the newest ones are definitely to be avoided. This was the most suspenseful update for me so far. Granted it was for a silly reason because I get freaked out by stupid stuff and I'm attached to uu (no spoilers here) as a character, but yknow. It's still a thing that happened.
