Both fox-woman and her companion had obviously forgotten his presence, and thusly had no use for him. They were far too interested in each other to require his aid. This would not have offended Caius, even if he were still capable of offense; knowing that you were not relevant to the situation let one know exactly when it was time to leave. This, as it happened, was the time to leave. With a wet squelch, the sniper turned on one heel and picked his brisk stride back up. The swamp sucked at his sturdy boots, leaving holes to serve as tracks for whatever might be following, though they slowly filled with water and worse things.

Should they call after him now, he would not answer, nor slow, nor stop. The spiders were skittering away, abandoning their webs and prey, getting out of the way as this unnatural emptiness passed them. Their physical senses told the arachnids that this was merely a mammal, something to be bound and drained at their leisure. It was a skulking, slinking animal that had passed their territory before, only then it had hidden itself from most of their sight. Now it had not bothered. As things that had descended from their queen, other senses in their possession said otherwise. It was not currently a threat, but they could not tell what might have happened, should they partake of this thing. To that end, avoidance was the better course, and being at least as intelligent as your average tax collector, took that course.

So did the dead-eyed man proceed though the Venomous Swamp, and pass the Damned Art without stopping...

The creature could sense others on the outside of the warded door, but it made no attempt to look beyond the wards and would not open the door for anyone. Buried beneath piles of countless books it appeared to be that Ix was heavy into research, searching from one dead end to another on a way to return back to its normal self; if it could be called normal to begin with. With all the paranoia aside, if there was a feeling one could get from the situation, it was a sense of determination.
