Welcome to Yrth
The world is a strange place. All who walk its many paths know this and yet so few know exactly how strange it can be. Very few people travel enough to see everything that can be seen, hear all that can be heard, and experience all that life can throw in the face of the unwary. If you are one of those who has not yet traveled, please take a seat and continue in this reading to learn about our wonderful world, Yrth.

This role-play is set against the backdrop of the world known as Yrth. It is much like earth itself and you can think of it as being earth or not, your choice. There are all manner of creatures both sentient and non on Yrth so you have complete freedom to let your character be of any race you desire and from any where in the world. Forgive the lack of a map and rest assured that one will be here soon.

No chatspeak of any kind is allowed here. This is a literate role-play thread. This also means that the bulk of your posts need to exceed 2 good sized paragraphs. I'm not a roleplay snob so I won't expect all of them to be. If there isn't anything to give you that much don't worry about it.

God-modding, overly powerful characters, auto hits, and acting as though your character is the greatest thing since sliced bread is not allowed. Let people create their own opinions of your character, don't assume.

Be friendly out of character, no drama.

In character you can be as nasty and dramatic as you want, just don't make your character the center of attention all the time, okay?

Leight is the second largest continent on Yrth. It is divided into four countries:
To the north is Dereth, To the south and east is Ulsvern, To the west is Xrater and in the center of those is Pestona.


Ulsvern is the second largest country in the continent. Their winters are snowy but not harsh and their summers are balmy and warm. For generations this country has been at peace with everyone around it and its leaders would like to keep it that way. The government in Ulsvern is a monarchy. The ruler is chosen by way of a sacred ritual, ensuring that they are a noble and honourable person capable of leading the people. The current monarch is King Rulis, a wise and friendly, if aging man.

Just about everyone can be found there. Ulsvern is open to all.


Dereth is a much harsher land than it's bordering ally. The land is cold almost year round and very little grows well in the strange climate. Tensions are uneasy with Pestona but not hostile and Dereth is friendly with every other country. The government is a monarchy which is family passed. The current rulers are King Tras and his wife Queen Lissandra. They rule equally and are well loved by their people.

Xrator is a varying land. The northernmost parts of it are full of forests with little inhabitation though small villages are dotted around. The southern parts hold cities and towns more commonly and is a very tropical climate. The government is a sort of facist monarchy in which one man rules after being elected by a council of elders. The current ruler is Emperor Qualtis Nerveles. He is charismatic and young, but seems to be doing a good job governing thus far. Under him trade has flourished and the people like him well enough. Xrator is known for being the biggest provider of tropical fruits along with tobacco and fish for the continent. Fine crafts and clothes come from there often.

This country has weather at its mildest with warm summers and cool winters, but no real harsh conditions. Most of the continents agriculture is grown here and as a result farms are prevalent. The government is vaguely democratic in nature. Currently the leader is Elisa Valdnos. She is a very new leader so no one has their mind made up yet.

There are 3 countries in this relatively small continent. To the east is Graegle, To the North is Eltwern and to the south is Hubre.

The country of Graegle is known to be one of the most populated in all of Yrth. People from all over come to live and trade in this city. Perhaps the biggest reason for this is that Graegle is known to be one of the few places where the developement of steam power is in action. Everything from weapons to manufacturing machines are starting to use steam power. People here look down on the rest of the world as primitive sometimes and tend to be short sighted and forgo magic altogether. The country is led by a council of 12 whose decisions shape all of its workings.

Eltwern is about as barren as a country can be. The land was ruined by the mage wars a hundred years ago and almost nothing grows. Instead it is a vast desert. A few small settlements of people are scattered throughout. Many races live in Eltwern. There is no unified government, instead each group of people rules itself differently.

Hubre is about as different from Graegle as a place can be. Magic reigns supreme there and all of the budding steam machinery found in Graegle is forbidden. The society is Theocratic, ruled by a warrior priest. The countrywide religion is monotheistic and worships a strong vicious god named Iton. The priest sees to his people's welfare and aside from being very rarely seen, he seems to rule well enough.

There are 7 countries in total in Usteth, the largest continent of them all. North are Chalmont, Wyntre, and Imgoy. South holdes Plraz, Molithan, Salnbad, and the forest of Kulra.


Chalmont is the magical melting pot. Mages from all over travel to Chalmont in order to purchase supplies and learn new spells in one of the many schools there. Schools from every dicipline of magecraft are represented in the country. As a result many mageborn creatures roam the wilds here. In the mage wars Chalmont was the center of power for those who practiced the light arts.

Anyone can be found in Chalmont, especially mages.


Named for the goddess of winter, this country is very secretive. Their fiercest defense is the harsh winters that keep them completely snowbound nearly 70% off the year. Immigration there is closed and ambassadors who go into the kingdom are closed-mouthed about anything they witnessed there. It is known that they have a polytheistic religion and that they are on good terms with the countries around them.

Unknown, though it is assumed there is some of everything.


Perhaps the most abrasive of the countries is Imgoy. Their people are ruled over by a dictator, although he does not seem to be tyrranical. His name is Veo Ilkma. They are allied to none and it seems as though a war is building between them and their neighbors in Plraz. Blood magic is legal is Imgoy and practiced commonly. It is said that demons swoop upon unsuspecting villagers at night.

Plraz is known as a country of earthly pleasures.When men run from their families and their duties, it is there that they run. Famous for a dance that wars have been fought over this country is run by an empress. Finea Yulen is a young leader, noble and strong, if a bit rash at times. Her family has been ruling the land for generations and it looks as though it will continue to do so for even longer. A war is building between Plraz and Imgoy, and though she wishes nothing more than to stop it the armies are gathering anyway. Her hope is that a peaceful resolution can be reached before it is too late.

Molithan is known as the Dead Zone. The Ittari used to live in giant cities, using powerful tools and forgotten magics to make their lives luxurious. During the mage wars the entire country was wiped out, leaving all of the major cities in ruins and the ittari fled elsewhere, becoming the nomadic people they are today. A few small towns remain, and settlements of men in tents, Treasure hunters who loot the ruins of the ancient cities hoping to find some bit of priceless artifacts. It takes a hardened soul to live in Molithan where there is no government and very little in the way of trade or agriculture.

Salnbad is one of the most hated countries in the world. They are at peace with their neighbors, but their Human Only policies anger those around them. Slavery runs rampant there with Ittari and Umras being traded like cattle to the highest bidders. Humans with no mage-power are also enslaved. Their society is split right down the middle. In the north Men rule over women and make all decisions. In the south Women rule over men. It has been this way for generations and no one has changed it. The entire country is ruled by a set of Twins always. The male twin, Itharu rules over the North while his sister Imathra rules over the South. Together they join the halves and make Salnbad a feirce empire to behold.

The forest of Kulra is untamed and thought to be uninhabitable. It is large enough to be considered a country, though it borders Salnbad. It is said that the trees there are alive, and the auras of magic that radiate from the place give pause to any who dare pass through it. The Umra live wild there, though they have a society much more civilized than any would think. They live in towns set up in the trees in the deepest parts of the forest. They use both steam powered tools and magic to make their lives and they are very peaceful for the most part. Unbeknownst to the people of Salnbad, the Umra are gathering, along with runaway Ittari and their progeny. A rebellion is brewing, and not a moment too soon.

Porfet is the smallest continent on Yrth. Only 2 countries are found here.
To the east is Benere and to the West lies Lishal.


Benere is a country of beggars. The people there suffer in absolute poverty and the slave rings of Lishal decimate the population as more people are forced to sell themselves or their children into slavery for survival. The country is ruled by a cold-hearted queen named Silvreth who cares for nothing but her own fancies. Rebellions boil nearly every month, though none have succeeded against her armies. Little does she know that beneath her very nose in the capital city people are beginning to meet. Whispers can be heard throughout and soon something she never expected will rise.

By comparison Lishal is rich, lush, and beautiful. Everyone seems to have comforts seen almost nowhere else. Fine Xraterian silks and rugs drape every house and purebred palfreys seem to swarm the streets carrying their riders. Slave sales are held once a week in the capital and brothels line the streets. Many people come from all around to live in luxury, even if only for a little while. Lishal is a fairly new empire which sits upon what used to be Ittari sacred land. Because of this faithful Ittari do not venture into its borders. Lishal is ruled by a kind, though naive prince named Hashan. If he knew the grimy parts of his kingdom he would perhaps change things. Even more so, if he knew that the Benerians were suffering at his country's hands he could certainly do something about it.

Something is out there, it's coming and it doesn't like what it sees. All over Yrth people are being targeted and killed for seemingly no reason. They are all ages, all walks of life, all races...but apparently they all have something that could potentially save their world.

Its targets are becoming more specialized. Dragons are dying in larger numbers along with their smaller Dracling counterparts and their humanoid Syrith cousins. Few are noticing the increase in these deaths but those who have think that the organization known as Dracons are being targeted. They're wrong. It's not the partners who are wanted dead but their Draclings.

Legends tell of sacred objects that when wielded by the right people will form a powerful defense against the ultimate destruction of their world. What are these objects? Who has them? Perhaps one of them has already been found, in the hands of a Syrith.

Weather and Time of Day
Yrth runs on a universal calendar composed of 12 months with 30 days each. 5 days out of the year are holidays. They are as follows:
The New Year
This holiday is as it sounds, a celebration of a new year. For children it means getting gifts of new clothing and often sweets. For young adults it is often a night of revelry and drunken abandon. (Sounds familiar....) For families it is a time of reflection upon the year that has past and hopes for the future. Each person young and old lights a candle sometime during this day (For children the candles are very small and burn fast, for adults they can take up to an hour to burn) As the candle burns they contemplate their hopes for the next year. When the candle burns out they go back to whatever they were doing before. There are often festivals and events held on this day in main cities and even smaller ones.
Harvestus
The beginning of Fall. On this day no meat is eaten. Festivals and parties are abundant and single adults are encouraged to pair up for more...intimate...activities after hours.
Solstice
The beginning of Winter. This holiday is much like Christmas. There are gifts given to everyone you love and dinners with the family. A slightly calmer holiday than New Year but still very much full of revelry and love.
Rentus
The celebration of spring and new life. Differences are put aside as new life is observed budding and giving birth. Celebrations are relatively quiet and differ from household to household, but the one part that everyone celebrates is a large picnic-like get-together, where everyone counts their blessings and appreciates their family.
Searstice
The beginning of summer! This holiday is celebrated with all night parties and celebrations. Fireworks are common as are events like masquerade parties and carnivals. Most people consider Searstice to be the most entertaining of the holidays.
