Edo, Japan 1297.


Everyone knows the history behind the Feudal Era. Shoguns acted as all powerful Warlords and the Daimyo (omnipotent warriors and land owners) employed many samurai under their jurisdiction in the means to protect themselves, their lands, and to fight for an Emperor who held very little power in a society crumbling at the seams. Wars were abundant, samurai were considered upper class, and death was prevalent, frequent, and very much expected.

But unrecorded in human history is something much more volatile cached beneath the masses of hollowed grave stones, if ever a body lie there.

There are orations passed from generation to generation, each recount varying considerably from one epoch to the other as orations often do. The most common narration - and the most accurate - were passed down from the families of the Samurai involved.

Daemons ravaged the lands, turmoil never ceased, and war always prevailed. Many valorous Samurai lost their lives fighting for a cause that nobody believed in. When the masses died, the Samurai's names were etched into the silt and left to rot with their corpses underfoot. Clans were hired to fight for the Shoguns of two opposing sides when the numbers dwindled to less than a hundred. The Yūkan'na (the valorous) and Uragira (the betrayed) Shogunate armies clashed, leaving no surviving witnesses save for the winking stars above that could convey the story better than the absent eyes of the deceased. However, when the masses died, a multitude of survivors nearing death were salvaged by the Yūkan'na Shogunate across all corners of Japan.

These Samurai simply... disappeared.

It was unforgivable.

Those nearing death, whether for a failed Seppuku, war injuries, illness, coma or otherwise, were collected inside of a containment chamber. It was utter darkness. These unfortunate Samurai were experimented on extensively. The Shogun of Yūkan'na wanted to mutate a demon with a human warrior, desiring a stronger, faster, better army of warriors able to access powers and abilities beyond anybody's wildest imagination. The experiments were successful. The blood of the daemon coursed through the veins of the almighty warrior, imbuing the demonic gene into their very human genome. There were casualties, of course. Some seized, others foamed at the mouth and died. What came next, though, was unexpected.

When the Shogun and his team of doctors came to retrieve the divine Samurai, they were nowhere to be found.

It is believed that perhaps the eligible warriors had plotted their own escape once awakened from their initial coma. Not a trace of their presence were left behind.

A daemon named Belalus had routed the Samurai's unconscious escape. The Samurai who had survived the experimentation were dumped off miles from the laboratory -- some in the woods, others in bathhouses, hospital wings, and towns in order to preserve their ignorance of what had happened to them in their near-death state.

But why would Belalus, the Lord of Demons, assist the Samurai?

When the men had awakened, everything was a haze and the demon Belalus had seemingly departed from this world entirely. It became apparently clear that the Samurai had obtained unusual reflexes and abilities never before seen in human flesh.

Edo, Japan 1302.


Five years have since passed and this is where our story begins.

Those 100 samurai who had received the gifts of the demon were presumed dead. Those who had come forth and claimed their former selves were considered dishonorable deserters, deceivers, or demons. Those adverse warriors were either murdered or arrested and taken to the Shogun to be used for his own devices.

The surviving Samurai have taken on a new identity, a new name, no longer attaching themselves to their former lives. Many men have joined opposing factions believing that their abilities are better served for hire, rather than blindly serving a Shogun greedy for power and expanding provinces. Their powers, however, are feared among the general populace and The Gifted are forced to use them in private. The origin of their powers are still, to this day, unknown to the 30 men now remaining; although, there have been some theories.

Recently, there have been whispers on the winds about the desperate search for one sacred item said to make anybody immortal called the Staff of Azuka. The staff's secret endowment was allowing its handler to time travel into the past and time travel up to 200 years into the future. It, too, dawned the ability to manipulate and seize people under its control at a whim, causing them to do any and everything the bearer requested. Legend says that long, long ago a beautiful woman named Azuka Shizengumi was the most powerful sorceress that ever existed. Her reign across the land was absolute and uncontested. As most legends go, this woman had fallen in love with a daemon named Belalus who is said to have betrayed her trust. The Sorceress, overcome with grief, banished Belalus and sent him 200 years into the future. Azuka lived for a century in terror that somebody would again betray her trust and try to use the staff for malevolent purposes. So, one night when a swarm of demons descended upon her palace, Azuka smashed her crystal staff into 150 pieces and hid them across the entire country in the hopes that no one ever again would be able to piece the staff together. Having used all of her power to eradicate the staff, Azuka died soon after as the daemons converged upon her palace and ripped her apart, piece by piece.

Now, it is rumored that the daemons are grouping together under the legendary Belalus in the means to retrieve the Crystalline Shards for themselves and restore the land to its former glory, whatever that could mean. Many daemons independently seek to salvage the Crystalline Shards for themselves for their own purposes. Many use the shards as a personal enhancement, these capacities dependent upon where they put the shard in their body. For this reason, many daemons have overrun the villages and forests.

Meanwhile, the two feuding clans of Edo are in search of the Staff of Azuka for their own purposes.

The Kenkyona Clan were hired by the Yūkan'na (the valorous) Shogunate to retrieve the Staff of Azuka with promises of great reward once brought completed before the Emperor. They are unaware that their reward may very well be death. The Rippana Clan seek the Staff of Azuka desiring an end to the devastation and the reign of the imperial Shogun who send men to their death, unabashedly. Since the rise of the Yūkan'na Shogunate in the capital, the economy has dwindled to an ultimate low causing many family-owned businesses to go bankrupt. The Uragira Shogunate is no better. The Uragira reign in the south and hold province in many islands around Japan. There have been whispers that the Uragira is run by a young Samurai warlord that is said to be a Yurei - a spirit kept from a peaceful afterlife - due to his unusual characteristics. Nearly 20 years have passed since the war between the Yūkan'na Shogunate in the capital and the Uragira have waged war, yet, the Shogun of Uragira seems to not have aged a single year. Are these suspicions valid or just a rumor among superstitious common folk? Is this man really a Yurei, a Yokai [Obake] (animal shapeshifter), or simply a man with good genes? Those under the jurisdiction of the Uragira compliment the Yūkan'na Shogunate's way of life and ruling; however, the Uragira are more prone to forgiveness over the Yūkan'na Shogunate's more treacherous way of life. Those who live under the Uragira live humble lives, but their food has dwindled greatly over the years causing many to starve and leave for the north.

Who will forge alliances? What will you discover about the Uragira and Yūkan'na Shogunate?

侍 Bushido ❜ ⇣

Translated as "The Way of the Warrior"

Samurai are also called "Bushi".

Bushido is a moral code of conduct followed by all Samurai warriors that focused mainly on chivalry and bravery. The code dictated that they must lead a frugal life and remain loyal to each other and their leaders, as well as remain honorable up until the time of their death. Their philosophy even stemmed over to appearance and grooming, how to raise a family, and preparation for death.

More so, the Samurai followed the attributes of the Seven Virtues of Bushido as discussed in the FAQ and Scroll of Rules. These virtues are rectitude, courage, benevolence, respect, honesty, honor, and loyalty. An extension of the Virtues is a value of wisdom, a sense of peace, elderly care-giving, and respect to family. Samurai were expected to live their lives without hesitation.

This was their way of life.

Samurai, themselves, during the Feudal period were a respected class of high esteem that helped put into effect the Emperor's regulations. They often held a lord or were pledged to a Daimyo.

As stated by ushistory.org:


"Any form of disgrace — cowardice, dishonor, defeat — reflected poorly on the lord and was reason enough for a Samurai to commit suicide by seppuku, or ritual disembowelment. In return for this devotion, the lord provided protection, financial security, and social status — in short, a reason to live."


Bushido veers into the honor and shame culture, of which I wont delve into great depth about. Honor refers to what is right and wrong. Shame is dependent on doing wrong and knowing that it was wrong.

On honor:


"If one makes a conscious effort to make right decisions, then one will have right actions and will in turn build strength of character. To say that one has honor is almost synonymous to saying that one is of strong character; or, simply put, honor is dedication to right action."


This is here to give you some reference in the Samurai and their beliefs. This does not mean that your character has to portray these traits or beliefs themselves. As it is, the clans are separate from the Daimyo and Lords and serve as mercenaries for hire... for lack of a better explanation.



侍 The Samurai's Sword ❜ ⇣



The most important possession of a Samurai.

Most Samurai carried two swords at all times.

They believed that their very soul dwells within the sword which is why it held such great significance to them. It took great effort to craft a Samurai sword with precision, one of which made it a value far beyond that of rubies.




侍 The Rippana & Kenkyona Dispute ❜ ⇣




Originally, the two clans in Edo were initiated without a hitch. Though both were very different in how things were run and what kind of Samurai were drawn to either clan, they did not care about what one clan did one day and what the other clan did not do the next. They lived at peace with each other as gifted, experienced warriors for hire. Equally deadly, the two clans went their separate ways on the street and would often acknowledge one another in passing. They knew of each other's gifts, of course; it was hard to not to sense the power emanating from one another with their heightened senses - not to mention some men had even fought side by side on the battlefield together for many months. However, the Rippana and the Kenkyona clashed when a member of the Rippana clan used their ability out in the public eye for a reason that the Rippana called "reasonable and honorable" when a band of gifted Samurai from the East were causing mayhem in Edo. The silent massacres were acrewed by the Yūkan'na Shogunate to draw out the missing Samurai from the War of Zetsubō. The Samurai deployed to seek out the missing Samurai in the capital were smarter than they had let on. Spying through windows of different clans and threatening to burn down one house every night until The Gifted revealed themselves, the Yūkan'na warriors had witnessed the capabilities of the Rippana clan members behind closed doors. As it were, a Rippana member had no other choice but to use his special ability to kill the fleeing Samurai before they escaped with the truth of the Rippana clan; thus, endangering the other existing clans in the capital. The Kenkyona, however, wanted to hear nothing of it. They declared the Rippana their sworn enemy, blaming them for the Shogun showing his ugly face in Edo not but a day after the exposure. The Shogun decided to settle down in the capital to keep a watchful eye on its occupants, claiming that he was concerned for their safety rather than reveal that his true reason was to draw out the gifted Samurai for his own arcane devices.

As if the tides were not already tumultuous, a member of the Kenkyona Clan "accidentally" murdered a member of the Rippana Clan unmerited during a meeting to unite and resolve their differences two years ago; thus, causing the rift between the clans to deepen even further.

Go figure.


侍 Belalus ❜ ⇣


A pureblood Oni that is said to have existed since time began. Truly, he is the eldest demon in existence.

Not much is known about Belalus aside from what is written in scrolls, in tombs, or behind the whispering hands of common folk. Belalus' intentions toward the occupants of Japan is unknown; however, what is known is that he has amassed a large following of demons in the means to acquire the fabled shards of Azuka's Staff and return Japan to its former glory. The demons under his command are wary, but follow him either out of great reverence for his age and wisdom or simply follow his footsteps out of fear that if they don't... they would be slain when he achieves his ultimate goal.

At one point, in times of old when demons roamed the open plain, Belalus was of royal blood. After he had cruelly murdered his father with his own hands - quite literally - he resumed the throne and ruled over the demons until the humans appeared seemingly out of nowhere and pushed them without cause from their rightful terrain. Many went into hiding, but those who lived in Japan chose to remain out in the open.

There are whispers that Belalus can control some measure of time and that he has appeared out of the shadows as a warning to Japan of what is to come in the future.

Whether that is true or not is yet to be proven. But what, in the future, could have stimulated the demon to emerge into the open plain of existence?

Currently, Belalus is in possession of 70 jewel shards.




侍 Staff of Azuka ❜ ⇣


The Staff of Azuka was owned by the Sorceress Azuka Shizengumi.

The staff holds enough power to contort space and time itself, as well as control and alter its victims course of action. After being shattered, the jewel shards can be used individually to make the wearer stronger depending on which region of the body the jewel is placed inside. The more you have, the more powerful you become. Simply being in possession of the jewel will do nothing unless it's being used. The shard, too, can animate a corpse and restore the youth to anyone who uses it.

Currently, there are 150 shards in existence.




侍 Shogun ❜ ⇣


Shoguns are top militaristic warlord generals that hold more power than the Emperor who is actually just a figurehead living a lavish life of comfort and formality. Daimyo frequently report to the Shogun while the Shogun uses his militaristic might to command legions of armies and deal with political, economical, and urban disputes that you would expect an Emperor to manage.

✰ ▏Yūkan'na Shogunate ❜ ⇣:

Translated as "The Valorous Shogunate".

As of now, the Yūkan'na Shogunate is in danger of losing its lead in the 20 year long dispute with the Uragira Shogunate. For the first 12 years, both Shogunates were at a standstill until armies of Samurai disbanded from the Uragira Shogunate and joined ranks with the Yūkan'na Shogunate. For the past eight years, the Yūkan'na have been able to push back the Uragira forces to the the southern most part of Japan. The Yūkan'na, themselves, ail in the north with the most bustling of city states such as the capital of Edo that contains a population of a bustling 500,000 people. Edo has currently been home to the Yūkan'na Shogun over the past four in a half years. Edo, too, provides the headquarters for the Rippana and Kenkyona clans.

The Yūkan'na grew desperate to maintain their edge in the war and have performed experiments on Samurai in the means to amass an army of superior warriors. Their first experiment went horribly wrong and those Samurai have since disappeared from existence. The Yūkan'na, however, believe that the Gifted Samurai are still alive and plotting their revenge against their lovely Shogunate. Little does the Shogun know is that the experimented Samurai remember only the bare essentials (like lights and chatter and pain and noise); they have no idea of what they are, only that they woke up with strange gifts granted by the Gods.

The Yūkan'na have scouts or police that scour the cities of both Edo and those provinces under their command. They are few in number, but the strength and skill that they wield is nothing to be trifled with or spat upon. Unlike the first batch of their experimented recruits, the Yūkan'na have improved their "war machines" into something of impenetrable, mindless tanks. Some scouts are very much aware and follow orders simply because they believe in the Yūkan'na's cause. However, there are weak spots just below the back of the neck that warriors on the field of battle have since discovered causing the Yūkan'na to reroute their experiment with another approach. The scouts themselves assure the Yūkan'na Shogunate that the regulations are being followed by his citizens in larger cities, that punishment is being dealt when it's not, and their search for the gifted Samurai is underway.

No one in the populace outside of the Uragira know of the Yūkan'na's true aspirations, aside from the sneaking suspicions of the Rippana and Kenkyona clans.

✰ ▏Uragira Shogunate ❜ ⇣:

Translated as "The Betrayed Shogunate".

Currently, the Uragira Shogunate is on the verge of overtaking the Yūkan'na Shogunate. Its army may not outnumber the Yūkan'na Shogunate's, but its warriors skills far out-masks their numbers. Due to this, the Uragira have since gained new ground due to their superior military and tactical strategy. The Uragira Shogun, himself, is actually a man of hardened valor who has vowed to seek vengeance for crimes committed upon him. He truly died a very cruel death and has returned in his original body as a Yurei to ascertain that a man worthy to wield the sword of power rules over Feudal Japan. Whatever the betrayal was, the man is intent on swinging steel until justice is served. The soul of the Yurei itself is well over the age of 100.

And the Yūkan'na Shogun? Over 500. Surprise, surprise.

There is more going on than what is writ at the seams.

The Uragira, of course, know about the Yūkan'na Shogunate's experimentations. Those gifted Samurai who had awoken and remembered something about their experience fled the capital to join the Uragira ranks. It is painfully obvious that the Yūkan'na is urgently seeking an upper hand in the war and the notion in itself has brought a smile to the Uragira Shogun's face.

In retrospect, the Uragira Shogun rules no different than the Yūkan'na but has since acquired a different flavor. He is more compassionate toward those he rules over, although he can be, for lack of a better word, an a*****e when the situation permits itself.

The Uragira have attempted contact with the Belalus himself, requesting his help to overtake the Yūkan'na Shogunate. The price is heavy, however. Belalus requires the Shogun's soul when the man passes, but is the Uragira Shogun willing to give it up or push forward without the demon's help? Maybe there's another bargain to strike that could benefit them both?





侍 War of Zetsubō ❜ ⇣


Translated as the "War of Despair".

A war five years ago where many Samurai had fought and died leaving no survivors. Over 150,000 men lost their lives during that eight day period.


侍 Saikyou no Tate Experiment ❜ ⇣


Translated as the "Ultimate Shield Experiment".

From the War of Zetsubō, only 100 Samurai endured the heinous experiments and survived. The other 600 Samurai perished with the demons used as vessels in the experiments. These Samurai were meant to be used to increase the Yūkan'na Shogunate's defense and offense on the battlefield. The Shogun feared that the Uragira would someday gain the upper-hand if he did not increase the strength of his elite military. The fear only grew stronger as the news of the blood bath on both ends reached Edo after the War of Zetsubō.

To this day, the Samurai still have no idea as to what had ensued. The last thing they remember is dying, and the next, they had woken up in one place or another. There are theories passed between the men but after five years, the entire thing has transcended into normalcy and acceptance of who they are rather than a concern as to what truly had transpired those many years ago. Were they even human anymore? Many Samurai during the first two years tried to tell their loved ones they were still alive and that they were okay when the warriors saw their families upset or experiencing intense dishevel, but when they tried to convince them of their identity... no one believed them. Those who kept quiet about their existence hung back and observed as many of the 100 Samurai were carted away or killed on the spot.

Only 30 gifted Samurai remain.

Maybe the Yūkan'na are making more puppets to cover their losses? Who knows.



侍 Seppuku ❜ ⇣


Translated as the "Stomach Cutting".

Also known as Harakiri.

Part of the Honor code for a Samurai, Seppuku is a practice of suicidal disembowelment. As Wikipedia kindly dictates:


"Seppuku was either used voluntarily by samurai to die with honor rather than fall into the hands of their enemies (and likely suffer torture), or as a form of capital punishment for samurai who had committed serious offenses, or performed for other reasons that had brought shame to them."


Samurai would also perform Seppuku at the death of their masters. This ritual is known as Oibara.

The ceremony for Seppuku was usually performed in front of witnesses and the Samurai doing the ritual used a small blade called a tantō to cut through their abdominal region from left to right. By doing it themselves, it brings Honor to their families, their name, and shows strength of character when they can stab themselves. Usually, the Samurai chose a Second or an attendant (called a Kaishakunin) to stand behind them during the stabbing and when the Samurai finished their part, the Second would then cut off their head. The cut was specialized in such a way that the attendant had to be a skilled swordsman. Usually, in most cases, the attendant standing over the dishonored Samurai was a friend. That is the more traditional Seppuku.

However, the Seppuku that would more than likely be of use to a Samurai in this thread is known as Kanshi (translates as "Death of Understanding" ) in the Feudal Era. This is where the Samurai commits suicide in protest of his lord's decision or orders. The way this is done is that the Samurai would cut his stomach horizontally and quickly bandage it, then go and appear before his lord and make a speech regarding his disapproval of his lord's command; thereby, at the end of the speech, showing his mortal injury.

There is another Seppuku that does not require the cutting of a head or even an attendant.

With a Jūmonji giri (cross shaped cut), the Samurai would cut across horizontally and shift the blade vertically up his stomach. This is considered a more unsavory, taxing form of suicide considering that there is no attendant to put the Samurai out of their misery. The warrior would instead sit quietly in pain and cover their face until they bled out and died.




侍 Daimyo ❜ ⇣


Translated as "Baron".

Known as powerful warriors and landowners, they were the most endowed rulers under the Shogun. Within their land provinces, they held complete military and economic power. The Daimyo even had hereditary land holdings and armies that would defend their property. Some of these landowners even achieved the status of Shogun if they were powerful enough.

The Daimyo armies, none surprisingly, were made up of Samurai warriors. The Samurai worked under Daimyo, but they had additional privileges and held a higher social status than common people. These privileges included being able to have a surname, a family crest, and carry two swords. The Daimyo were considered their "Lord" if the Samurai pledged themselves to their person or cause. Then again, the Samurai also frequently held masters - those who ranked above them or were of some importance to the Samurai themselves.

Called the "Waring States Period".

Feudal Japan is ridden with demons and many other breeds of creature to roam its landscape. It is during this period that everything is made by hand, life is simple with no real technological advancement as it is modernly, no running water or toilets, and everything had to be worked for if you wanted anything in life. Shops, homes, temples, and shelters are made of reinforced paper and wood. Some smaller villages off the map even have huts made out of grass or mud. War is very common and very much expected during this epoch.

GENERAL & PLOTTING


The rules may look like a lot, but it's really not. Most of it is explanation.

I am the sole owner of this role play. I retain the right to change the rules as needed or to deny a spot to any person. Of course, there is to be no cybering and everyone must follow Gaia TOS regulations. Romance is encouraged, sexy time is not. If your characters happen to get to that point and the clothes start coming off, black out the scene and time skip it. As always, respect everyone in the thread and the co-moderators. If a dispute happens and it simply cannot be resolved, bring it up to me or the co-mods and we will deal with it personally. If the fights continue further, we will ask you both to cool down and leave. We are all family here and we should treat each other as such.

On plotting, I cannot stress how significant plotting is to both the story and the characters. I very strongly encourage plotting and maintaining your relationship section to keep record of plots and character dynamics discussed. This thread is created in such a way that it has 20 different variations of how it can end, who gets the staff, and what sort of alliances form. I made it this way on purpose. I have always hated walking into the thread and having the thread owner spell out everything on a piece of paper, who is dating who, who is the real villain, what the characters are like, and how the thread is supposed to interact with each other in IC. While the plot is there, I want us ALL to build and mold this thread into something great -- something personal that we can all enjoy and be passionate about. Highlight the end of this paragraph. The situations may or may not be voted upon, but how the story ends... how your characters live or die.... is all up to you. WE create the world. It is not simply me. WE put in the effort to keep the thread alive and build on the story. By doing this, I'm sure the passion will always be there for everybody because everyone is involved. This does not mean that you dictate what you want or how things are going to go; no. Just because you come up with something, it doesn't mean that we're going to use it. Please understand this. So please, for the love of God, don't go apeshit and come up with ideas and be upset if they get shot down. I want this thread to be open like a second home that's always there when you've had a hard day, but if the idea can't be used for the story, perhaps it can be used elsewhere? If you read this, please put "The Way of the Warrior" on your application instead of "Honor and Shame".

Also, cussing is welcome. Just don't go over the top with it -- "******** that ******** ******** dumpster." < ---- no //slaps on wrist.

I have a lot to say here, so please stay with me! C:

I have created this story. I have made the profiles and the applications by hand, I have sat and stared at the computer screen for hours thinking of how to make this thread work, of how to make it better, and whether anybody would even be interested in the plot. I have ran around my a*****e thinking of ideas. Yes, I even spent my time wondering how many characters would be too many and how many would be just right. I have put a lot of hard work into this thread and spent millions to make it beautiful. Those who are, or were, thread owners should understand where I'm coming from. While I don't expect you to be as excited as I am about it, I would like everyone here to be dedicated. This means posting in the IC, the OOC and not ditching. If you know you cannot join or you don't have time to join, please... don't. Do not join and leave, or disappear for a long period of time making everyone wonder whether you died or something. This holds up the thread. If you know that you're going to be gone for a while, let me know and remove your character from the action (or we could just ghost him). Highlight the end of this paragraph. If you don't want to be in the thread anymore, don't just vanish like Houdini. Tell me so I can open up your spot for someone else. I want this bad boy to thrive. I've seen too many threads die in my time on Gaia and I'm not about to let this sucker go down without a fight. I do, however, expect you to feel the same about that.

This is a Yaoi thread meaning, yes, guy on guy. That means every character in this thread must be a guy. I don't want to see Seke and Uke characters, either. Let's be original.

Character-wise, no mary or gary sues. NONE. I don't want to hear about every character having a shitty past. Yes, stuff happens. Yes, everyone has had life plot a hefty turd on them a time or two, that's not what I'm talking about. I don't want it cut and dry, either; "he is a bad guy, he's stoic, he doesn't care"... no. Give them life! Give them weaknesses, passions, hopes and dreams! That's what writing is all about. Just because your character is seen as "bad" it doesn't mean that they actually are. They may have other motives or they may be under a certain influence. You decide. Be creative and use your imagination.

ALSO. I will be making sure that no two characters are the same and no two abilities (power-wise) are similar. I want variety. The ability can be anything so be creative! That's always good, ne? c:

The name of your character MUST be Japanese. This is staged in Japan during the Feudal era. Japanese.

I require that your Samurai character also portray at least one of the Bushido Virtues exemplified here: The Seven Virtues of Bushido. Your character doesn't have to be a stick up the butt or a traditional Samurai, but I would like them to at least have one characteristic of an original Samurai. This does not apply to daemons.

If you want to know what spots have been applied for, refer to the OOC on the first page under the "APPLICANTS" post or look under the title next to the word "puppeteer" in the CHARACTERS section. Feel free to apply if it has already been applied for. The better man will win! ^-^


LITERACY


This thread is literate to elite. This means proper spelling and good grammar. I love a post with meat in it; I don't want fluff, I want to be involved in your character. I don't care to read five paragraphs on how hot the day was, the fact that his balls are sticking to leg, how the sun was just so HOT, and how colorful the sun looks when you peer at it just right. Put something in your post that people can respond to in at least three paragraphs. You can write more if you want -- there is no limit! I, myself, tend to write quite a bit. Not even the sky can touch you, dah-ling!


POSTING


As for post layouts, all I require is a picture, the name of the character, the clan (if they have one) and your beautiful, literary words!~

I require EVERYONE to post at least once every week. I encourage you to post more, of course. After two weeks, unless otherwise discussed with me, I will go around PMing or quoting people. To keep the thread alive since I've seen it die with people just going on Skype all the time, I require that everyone post frequently in the OOC to keep this sexy beast alive. I'm sure that will be a cake walk for those talkative few. :3

I don't think I even need to mention OOC speech. That should be a given.


BATTLE


No auto-hitting. No Godmodding. If you want to kill someone, discuss it with them before hand. If you must, you can do a collaboration post. However, a collaboration post is not required for fights. I don't want to see your character dodging every single attack, either. I will call you out on that s**t~ > w >;;; There will be blood... and lots of it. This is not for the squeamish. This is your warning now~ I like guts, I like terror, I like blood, and morbid incidences. I hope you do too.

There will be ******** up things happening in this thread -- characters WILL and MAY die. Be prepared for that. You can pick up a second character if you know that you can handle it. If you can't, don't. But if you think that you can deal with another character, by all means - have at it! Just leave some room for the rest of us~ ;'D

Also, do not bullshit about how “godly” your character is. That will not be tolerated and it ruins the RP.

The capital and largest city of Japan where all the Samurai clans and main government powers congregate. The city is vast, large, and spanning for miles at length. The Emperor resides just within the borders of the city where a giant wall keeps outsiders from simply walking through the gates without a pass. To get into the city, there's one way in and one way out - through a giant, arching, iron door. Within Edo, the Yukan'na's influence is vast and enriched into the towns economic environment and societal tendencies, especially with the new law enforcement. The Rippana and Kenkyona Clan reside here. Edo is known to be the center-focus of life in Japan where markets span the city from top to bottom and everyone converges inside of the densely populated capital. Many exciting things happen in Edo...





The Kenkyona house sits on the southern most end of town shaded beneath an assortment of cherry blossom trees. The house itself is made out of bamboo, dense oak wood, and reinforced paper sliding doors. Beautiful from a distance and seemingly engulfed in the bright colors of the cherry trees in the right season, one would suppose that a home never truly existed unless within close quarters of the house itself. A one story home, newer and built exactly twenty years ago by a man who wanted to live humbly but rent out the rooms of his home to make a quick buck, built the house from the ground up. A bit of a maze, the house itself takes up less square footage than the spacious home of the Rippana clan. Within, however, it is wide open and homey; although, the halls themselves are a short space apart. Those living within the house are more likely to bump into each other looking for the bathroom or attempting to just walk by one another in such slim corridors. The house itself has two expansive bathrooms and two kitchens. Outside is a well for fresh water and a separate expansion of the house where the Vice Captain built a dojo and a room for himself, separate from the occupants in the house. The separate housing partition is connected by the wrap around porch that bridges into the entrance of the opposing building. The opposing building, however, has no kitchen or bathroom. Instead of a wall, the house is instead gated in by cherry blossom trees.

The Rippana house is located at the Western most end of Edo by a river that flows into the Pacific. In fact, due to the square foot of the wall around the house, a piece of the river bends through the back yard of the house and folds again under the wall just about half a mile at length creating quite the river garden. This area in particular tends to flood when it rains. The house itself was originally built to accommodate extended family of a middle class, wealthy business owner until he lost his job, his house, and his family during a war one hundred years ago when yen was hard to come by and most of the able bodied men had left for war. Left untouched for the better of one hundred years, the current Vice Captain refurbished the two story home after the Seikyou No Tate experiments. The home itself houses a kitchen, three bathrooms, and many chamber rooms to accommodate the Rippana clan members. The house is large enough that a man that lives on one side of the house would certainly not run into another man who lived on the other side of the house unless they walked around the porch area or congregated in one of the social areas of the house. Just outside the house is a well for fresh water and another smaller building for their dojo. The house is made of dark cherry wood and reinforced paper sliding doors.

On the Northern edge of town, the Emperor's castle is vast and can be seen for miles across Edo. The Emperor himself resides there.





Where the renown Shogun and his new, cuddly law enforcement reside. On the lowest levels are said to hold the laboratory for the Saikyou no Tate experiments and those that followed. The Shogun is said to live a lavish life of comfort and convenience. Has he even seen battle since becoming Shogun? There are powers beneath the Shogun himself that are supposed to act as checks and balances, but that kind of flew out the window the moment he sat on his throne...

Lots of secrets are contained within the infrastructure of the palace - the self-same secrets the Yukan'na Shogun would have anyone, even the emperor, killed for rather than to have them exposed and compromised. The palace itself is four floors up and supposedly one floor below deck. The Shogun's palace is actually located inside of the Emperor's palace walls.





Where the capital of the Uragira Shogunate is located. Very similar to Edo, the city is vast and populated immensely. However, unlike Edo, the Uragira Shogunate has done what he can to turn the economic downfall into something positive despite the fact that his presence there is what is causing the city to go into a downward spiral. Many fear the city because of the Uragira's presence and because of that, many shops have lost business and people are going hungry. Despite this, the Uragira Shogunate has made attempts to feed the people and show them that their presence is a good and necessary thing. Over the past year, more people have ventured into the capital due to the Uragira's efforts, but the economy still suffers. Surprisingly, the capital sits on a body of water and has remained more peaceful than a lot of main cities doting Japan.





Just outside of the town of Bizen, the Uragira Barracks are the homes of the Uragira Shogunate's more experienced warriors and the Uragira Vice Commander himself. The home itself is beautiful and ascends up to a seventh floor, housing one comrade each floor. It has a kitchen and a bathroom for each level. Most unfortunately, there is no dojo and the only one within walking distance is in town.





One of the Uragira's strongholds extending just across the border between the Yukan'na and Uragira territory. Driven deep into the mountains, the entrance is heavily guarded and enforced by powerful magic. Only those with pure intention toward the Uragira can cross into the delicate domain. Currently, most of the Uragira forces are held up here.





Belalus has taken providence inside of Azuka's Palace. Dark red crimson lilies grow around the parameters of the palace where the ashes of Azuka's accursed bones were strewn. Or so the legend goes. The Palace itself is cursed, causing the wayfarer to see many things unmatched by the human eye - illusions, and dastardly ones. Any who wander onto the cursed lands without admittance is prone to become mad or even disappear inside of the fog that seems to engulf the fifteen story castle. The river is man-made, ending nowhere but beginning somewhere. It is said to only open and pour into the lake of fire when Death himself ferries an unfortunate soul down into the bowels of Hell. If only the dead could speak the truth. Next to the palace on the grounds themselves is the Fumei Clan's hide out said to extend into the palace of which only Belalus knows how to unlock from the outside. Inside the palace, however, many could only swear that they hear whimpers in the middle of the night at the same time every night. What could it be, or is this also an illusion?





As stated above, the Fumei Clan's hide out leads them through underground tunnels that open into the palace of Azuka. The opening to the entrance is always cached and never in the same place you left it. One day you may find the opening by the wooden grove a mile from the palace and the next you'll find it opening up from the river basin. Dark, tricky magic is at work. Don't want just anybody walkin' in, do ya?





Where two opposing forces clash, the Aruto Ken district is neutral territory for both the Yukan'na and the Uragira Shogunates. Resting on the border of both of the district's alliances, the city prides itself on its riches of the fishing industry and the steadily increasing population over the past five years.





Not much is known. It is said to house the dead for the sight of the living. The tree itself functions as Yggdrasil, or some would say. There are many mysteries about this tree and no one seems to be able to explain much outside of being able to see those once perished walk the earth once more... for a time.





Literally translated as "place of the way" is used as a formal training facility for Samurai and those in league with the martial arts.





Geisha's are female entertainers or hostesses whose skills include traditional classic music, games, dance, and conversation. The Geisha houses are where the Geisha live and entertain. As well, geisha's are often called to be the right hand and entertainment to many patrons throughout the larger cities.





The Hot Spring is a natural forming spring of hot water produced by geothermal energy in the earth's crust. They can be found just about anywhere and are used to bathe or relax in. Some people believe that the springs themselves heal injuries of both the body, the mind, and the heart.





Different depending on the locale and city in question, the bath house is used to rejuvenate and cleanse ones self of impurities. This is where your characters will bathe in every city that isn't impoverish unless they prefer a river or other large body of water.

If my clan is named "the honorable", does that mean that my character should be honorable?


Just because your clan is named 'the honorable', it does not mean that is how your character should be or act. You are free to make your character portray any trait you'd like. The name of the clan indicates what they would like to convey to the public or what they were nicknamed by the general populace. However, I don't want your character being diabolical as a Samurai. Again, this site should give you some insight as to general knowledge on Samurai characteristics: The Seven Virtues of Bushido. While your character does not have to portray all of the characteristics, I would like your character to express at least one or two of the Bushido Virtues.



-- Does that mean we have prolonged life?

Yes. You may find that those experimented Samurai look exactly the same as they did five years ago. However, you may also notice that some Samurai age faster than others or look older than they actually are, but still function like a youthful warrior.


-- Am I still human if I am in either of the Samurai clans?


Some may be half demons... some may still remain human. It depends on how the gene bonded to your character's DNA.


-- Was everyone in the two Samurai clans experimented on?


Yes.


-- Are there more Samurai clans than those mentioned in this role play?


Yes, absolutely! You'll find them everywhere - in and outside of Edo. Some clans are special like the Rippana and Kenkyona; most, however, are just ordinary samurai or mercenaries trying out another way of life, escaping their own desolate existence, unmanned by the Shogunate's way of life, etc etc. There are some gifted within the masses.


-- What do the Division numbers indicate?


The numbers rank 1-4. There are four groups of Samurai with one person as commander of each of the four groups. The Vice Commander is the leader of the entire Clan. Those in Division 1 are considered of higher rank and better in fighting capability than those in Division 4. That does not mean that the Samurai in Division 4 are useless; to be a Samurai is a great honor and a hard thing to obtain. However, duly note that the higher in numbers you go, the lower the commander of that Division's rank. The Division 1 leader is kind of like the "Second" to the Vice Commander, the Division 2 leader is the "Third", the Division 3 leader the "Fourth", and the Division 4 leader the "Fifth". That also means that if the Vice Commander dies, the Division 1 leader has dibs on the spot. Of course, the Vice Commander can be challenged for the role but it is a rare thing among the clan members. It honestly depends on the division number on how many Samurai are under their jurisdiction - it could be anywhere from 5 to 20 Samurai at one time.




-- If I am the Shogun of the Uragira Shogunate or a Samurai in the Shogunate, do I have supernatural abilities like the Yūkan'na Samurai?


If you are the Shogun of Uragira and since you are a Yurei, yes. You will have supernatural abilities. If you are a Samurai in the army, no, you will not. You are completely human unless you betrayed the Yūkan'na after exposure. Even then, not all of the Samurai in the Yūkan'na army were experimented on.


-- Where do I find information on Japanese folklore daemons?


Try typing it into the google search bar or write "Feudal Japan (Beasts/Folklore/Legendary Monsters/Yurei/Yokai/etc)". While I may use Wikipedia for certain things, they have explanations of many different types of monsters on other sites. I promise you it will pop up. ^ w ^


-- What's with that NEUTRAL/NON-NEUTRAL role?


Neutrals or otherwise extra non-neutral characters will be extras in the role play for the convenience of those already involved or those wanting a role when spots are taken. After the initial neutral/non-neutral spot listed is taken, these spots will further remain 'unlimited', but that status can be removed at a later date. All roles including the Emperor, another Uragira Division leader, a Fumei, a Monk, whatever your imagination comes up with can be played. I'd really be interested to see the Yukan'na Shogun just to see where that goes. The role listed under the Vice Commander must be taken to make the number of characters available an even number.


-- You mentioned that characters can only have one ability, but what about the Fumei Lords or Belalus or the Yokai Uragira leader? Wouldn't they be stronger and more experienced?


A valid point. Considering their rank, I'll give the Lords two abilities unless they're under the age of 500 and the Fumei and Uragira Vice Commanders (Belalus and the Yokai) three abilities.


-- Can I be a mod?


Sure! Message me a reason as to why you would be a good mod for the group with a notice of your availability and I'll be sure to look over it. C:


-- The Samurai that survived the experiment, were they dead or dying or both?


The Samurai were dying. Those that were dead ended up either staying dead or being revived for a very short period of time. Therefore, the Gifted - whether in Rippana, Kenkyona, the Uragira ranks, or elsewhere - were an inch from death or, in very rare cases, died for a little while but were somehow revived by themselves before the Shogun experimented on them. If you're wondering how that could happen, stranger things have occurred in life and there have been cases of people being 'brought back' on their own.


-- Can the daemons have horns, a tail, or trademarks? NEWLY ADDED!


After deliberating for a while, I decided that I do not want anthros (furries, beasts, etc), but I don't care if your daemon has horns and a tail or whatever the matter. It's a daemon. Of course they vary and may have certain trademarks that note them as a daemon. As long as they can disguise that detail somehow (cause walking into human villages with a blinking side over your head is asking for it), it's all kosher. I love variety. Give me something interesting. ;'D


-- How come your total people is 18 and never added the Yukan'na Shogun to the character count? What do you expect of the person playing the Yukan'na Shogun? NEWLY ADDED!


This is a delicate matter. I have very recently decided to make the Yukan'na Shogun a playable character simply because he is an important asset to the thread, and his appearance and activities are significant followings in the thread. However, if you want to play the Yukan'na Shogun, you will have to play another character as well simply because the Yukan'na Shogun is not exactly a present character all the time, but he is a very important part of this role play and may have stints of activity for chapters in the story; yet, he could be absent from the story for many chapters and remain a mention/plot influence. You can bring him out whenever you want, but remember - if his actions and appearance don't fit the story line at the time, there's probably no reason to unless it's a twist. This story mainly follows the resistance, but I want all aspects available for play which is another reason why I made him playable and the Kenkyona working for him. You will have to make a profile for him, but will be given more time to complete it and he can have up to three abilities like the Uragira Shogun and Belalus since he isn't at all human (what is he?) and is a powerful chess piece. Please follow the main points and plots given in the thread, but his history, personality, and other details is yours to mold. I love imagination, so please make him interesting and someone who would lead a country as a militaristic, political, and societal general. I don't want the typical "bwuhahaha villain" cause he truly isn't a villain. Nobody in this thread is a black and white villain. If you make one, it will be denied, kay? Balance him out and give purpose to his enterprise. c:

Absolutely. As long as you're able to handle both characters, but give priority to the character listed prior to your addition, I have no qualms.

The Lord's didn't just pop into existence. Every Lord has a story as to why he is a Lord - it could be that his family was given that title when Belalus' father still ruled and he inherited it (or is still the original Lord) or he gained it by way of fear and influence and power or they overthrew the last Lord. He should have his own background, be creative with it. It's your decision how got there, but Lord's should typically be old/ancient, older than most daemons (there have been some younger Lords), experienced, and someone who can and will command daemons of the west or east themselves. You can make up your own culture for your daemons since they come from two different areas - they may act, dress, and speak a different way to practice things differently. This may put even more of a wedge between the East and West daemons. Though, I think it would be interesting if they had warred in Belalus' absence for a short time and then settled their differences (or never did). That reason would be up to the Lords. Daemons are like humans who, if they don't understand something, or they don't agree, or they want something (you get the idea), they'll fight about it. But that's just an idea. Come up with whatever you want. Keep in mind: coming from two different areas of their world is like coming from America and Asia - the terrain is different, the daemons, etc.
