Hello and welcome to the recruiting and OOC thread for "The Coming of the Storm". This thread is a remake of another long-dead roleplay. For now, read on and see if perhaps you want to join this wonderful story with us.

Thread Stats:
Level: Literate and above
This means we expect no less than 300 words per post. Your posts won't be counted and we judge more on quality than length but this guideline is still to be followed.
Genre: Modern Fantasy
The thread takes place in modern times, here on earth. Specifically in Ventura, California.
Thread Pace: Mid-range
Hopefully there will be an opportunity for you to post at least once or twice a week. This thread will not be moving at lightning speed but it shouldn't be dead for days on end either. I'm willing to wait for you if you need to leave for any reason.

The world is changing. No one can argue that, least of all those who have in these last few years had to deal with the idea that humans are not alone in it. Recently groups have come to light and they want change. Some want big changes and others simply want to go on living life. Vampires those sensual stalkers of the night about whom many a horrid teenage novel have been written, Therianthropes who shift into the forms of animals, many different creatures whose ways seem so alien to those of humans. Yet are they truly so different? Is it really impossible for everyone to live together, now that the not so well kept secret is out?

Human arrogance, fear, and bigotry is not the only threat. Nonhumans for all that they are looked down upon hold the same negative thoughts...and very few are willing to work towards peace. For now most of those who are not human continue to masquerade as such anyway, hoping to avoid the pointed fingers and frightened glances. Others do not.

Admidst the suspicion and distrust above, a great evil stirs below in the depths of the Pacific. In its gluttony it would consume all and cause chaos in its wake. Alone, no race can stop it. United, there may be a chance.




There is a prophesy, first spoken in this generation by one with the gift of foresight. It declares that there are those born to fight this evil and they shall come from all races with power that defies logic. However, this power comes at the price of physical frailty. These Saviors shall be marked on their left hips, testament to their role in the coming war.

They cannot do it alone, for others also from all races are born to protect them, keep them from danger. For each Savior there are two guardians, and their lives are linked. These brave men and women shall also be marked, upon their right shoulders.
These are the marks:


On the left is the mark of the Savior, and on the right the mark of the Guardian.

Together only these individuals can unite their fractured world and stand against what is to come.

This thread is based on one created in 2004 by Kaguria Sanaka. The original thread was semi-lit and survived through 4 different threads with many of its original members remaining through them all until 2008 when it died an unexpected slow agonizing death. She re-made it in 2009 but due to the members having all diverged in skill so much, not many of the original cast remained. In 2010 I too left the thread. I cherished my character and the original concept behind the thread but that concept had long since been dropped and the literacy level of the thread had remained the same while my own writing had evolved. With blessing from the original owner I created my own sister-thread. The new thread had a higher literacy level, took place in a new location, and brought the original concept of the first thread back into play. Unfortunately though we had some incredibly dedicated players, that thread never quite got off the ground. Now, with better planning, I am hoping to remake it.

Some characters and events from the old threads may be mentioned. Credit will be given to the creators of those characters and events as due.

Send me your completed profile skeleton found at the bottom of this post.
I will reply with a mini-skeleton for you to fill out, please do so.
When the thread is officially up (After I've had at least 5 joins) I'll let you know. Until then this will serve as the OOC also.

Character Creation Rules:
No more than 2 characters per person for now.
Characters must be your own, no transplanting characters from other media.
Characters are limited to 1 Racial ability from the following list and one personal ability of your choosing. Humans, unless marked, have no racial or personal abilities. Marked humans may have one personal ability.
No perfect characters. You MUST fill out the flaws portion of the skeleton.
Read the other character skeletons submitted. I will not have an RP with 4 assassins who all had tragic pasts yada yada yada.
Try to steer clear of cliches' or Mary Sue-ness.
Only 1 non-human character per person. We need humans to make this thing well-rounded.
Character images can be any style including real photos but do not use pictures of characters from other media. (For example, don't use something like This. ) If you'd rather commission character art let me know and I'll be more than willing to help you pay for it from the artist of your choice on Gaia or a selection of wonderful artists I frequently hire.
*Please note that calling your character a LYCAN unless it turns into a wolf will get your application rejected. Lycans refer only to therianthropes who become wolves.*

Growth of horns, tail, and wings at will
Ability to link energies with a LIGHT demonic hybrid to strengthen the abilities of both for a short period.

You may choose to turn one of the NPCs into a full character. If so feel free. Here are the ones you have to choose from. If you choose one you may change their character image, looks, abilities, personality, background, and anything else BUT their occupation. NPCs will only be available until their first post.


NPC Name: Steve
Race:Human
Basic info about them: Steve is the 60-something owner and operator of the Inn on the Beach. He is friendly with just about everyone and he lives onsite in room 1. An avid photographer Steve is quite chatty and loves to impress upon people the importance of art, music, and friendship in life. All in all, he's a cool guy. He has white hair to his shoulders that is always in a ponytail and twinkling blue eyes. Almost always smiling.
Who is allowed to play them:Any Thread Mod

NPC Name: Starla, Rachel, Cory, Brian, and Tracey
Race:Human, Lycan, Panther shifter, Vampire, and Human respectively.
Basic info about them: The staff who work the inn at the front desk, cleaning, or any other tasks that need doing. They are all ages 22-30. Starla is the manager.
Who is allowed to play them: Anyone can play the hotel staff.


NPC Name: Lily
Race:Vampire, 2nd generation.
Basic info about them: Lily is the 20-something sizzling hot owner of the Pain Parlor. She is a great tattoo artist and a wonderful singer as well. She's got an acerbic wit and a tongue sharper than razors, but her heart is in the right place. She doesn't really have a problem with humans or anyone unless they piss her off personally. Lily lives above her tattoo parlor. Being a 2nd generation vampire, she was raised by 2 vampiric parents and prefers her blood to be positive.

NPC Name: Roger Yearly
Race:Human
Basic info about them: Roger is the owner of Nicholby's Nightclub. He hates all nonhumans and is around 45-50 years old with white streaks at the temples of his black hair. He speaks with a slight accent and is presumeably from spain originally. No one quite knows why he hates nonhumans so much, but it's definitely not fear.

NPC Name: Nurse Karen Albright
Race:Human
Basic info about them: Karen Albright is a kindly woman in her fourties or so. She is the manager at the blood bank, and not even she knows who the owner is. 7 days a week 365 days a year she is at the bank from 9pm to 5am, with a small staff of nurses who draw blood from those donating to the vampiric cause. She is very friendly and has brown hair and brown eyes.
Who is allowed to play them:Any Thread Mod

NPC Name: Nurses: Lizzy, Kyle, Matt, Yvonne, and Natasha.
Race:Human, Human, Vampiric, Lycan, Vampiric, and Deer Shifter respectively.
Basic info about them: Nurses all in their mid 20s-early 30s who work at the Blood bank from 9pm to 5am drawing blood from those donating to the vampiric cause.
Who is allowed to play them:Anyone can play any of these nurses.
