I normally work on a large canvas then shrink it down so it looks better. xD

awww, no worries, I"m sure yours would come out awesome even @ large canvases haha. I've had some artists that felt the same way you do, but I reassured them, I really don't mind the detailness xd I just have that habit of looking really close at the picture to see textures/details/etc xd It's not to look for flaws or anything @___@; No worries~ I just love them~ xd
