Dju xD Fine, I won't go step in your territory LOL

xDD Omg... I never give people the "What I'd pay" price. I'm so picky and unless it's one of the few artists that I like, I wouldn't pay a cent for it. x__x;;

Also, on the subject of "swan like necks and chunky thighs"... It has to do with style originality too, doesn't it? And how much they worked on it. If the style is original and the work gone in it is pretty, then I don't think it's that much of a sin really. I just get really ticked off when very sub-par art in general get like, 5mil each piece. x__x;;

      I mean like "If I was a billionaire" sort of thing. I mean, I wouldn't say no to good art no matter who it's from yanno? XD

      And no, the 'style' excuse is soo out of fashion, anyone who claims that now is just covering for their complete and utter lack of knowledge on anatomy. Like a high paid artist I know--she recently drew a picture were the legs were like tree stumps pretty much and the upper body was all dainty and delicate. That's not a style, it's "I've no idea how to draw legs nicely".

xDD I understand the need for anatomy, but no matter how good your anatomy is, style is something that is either original or not. Sometimes you can be the best at anatomy but your art would make people yawn--there's nothing exciting in something seen a million times.

That being said, I always end up liking artists if I've seen their bottoms. One of my friends can sell her halfbodies for millions, but she refuses to even consider going below that line or drawing another gender. Her art is great, I mean, but that turns me off enough to not even consider buying it. I need to see improvement and drive in an artists work to consider it as "good art".

Jin Yeah, I totally understand that. xD My mom is a self taught fashion designer and you have *no* idea how she gets frazzled over the fact that I draw anime before I've even learnt how to draw the from real life.

It really comes down to laziness in my part. x__x;;
I used to think I could get away with drawing anime without studying anatomy.

I look back at those pictures and realize they were crap, and I was really cutting myself short of a great experience; the human body is a beautiful thing. Why wouldn't you want to study it properly?

      Starrii, you say that like anatomy is easy to learn rofl 'Masters' like Silvy and Feathers still have a long way to go, but their style is sufficiently masking the errors that they have in ways that people either don't care or don't realize these glaring mistakes. It just bothers me because I know that WITH good anatomy skills, they could be hoshit like the best, not just above average, but the BEST.

Uuugh that just above the foot thing KILLS me. x.x; Maybe it's just me and my OCD, but I find it incredibly annoying when people can't expand their canvas a few more pixels to put in the feet.

Well, as long as its GOOD drawn feet.

And not LIEFELD feet lol.

      Then again, maybe I should keep this quiet so that when I develop an amazing style and already have fabulous anatomy, I can be the best mrgreen

rofl rofl

No, I totally understand the need for anatomy. oTL I love realism.

What I'm saying is, yes, anatomy is important in the end, but like you said, Bleedy && Blue are really nice *style-wise*. On Gaia, that's sufficient. It's Gaia, for Christ's sake. There are barely anyone here good at anatomy in general.

I just saw a Gurren Lagann Auction.

They're selling art as the characters, but the art has nothing to do with the theme! x.x;;;

When I think of a Gurren Lagann auction, I think of people selling art of the characters!

Logic. Get.

Depends.

Maybe they're doing Eyecatch art?

Can you point me to the general direction of this thread?

hmmmm...

im not sure how that forum works though.
Do you already have to post samples when recruiting?

Iduno, dju, I wouldn't call silvy or feathers 'masters', but they are certainly advanced artists. For me, it's kind of easy to tell when a person doesn't have a grasp of anatomy. You can't really mask something like that if your heads are gorgeous but your bodies are off kilter. However, their coloring is fantastic.

I have pretty high standards, especially for myself, so I wonder if I should be talking?

Edit: @genesis: Iduno D8

I think that's why Chikkuru got to be so famous though. Her anatomy was fantastic.

      I consider them "masters" because whenever they enter auctions, they get really super insane high bids XD

      It's always the coloring that is a dealbreaker. Me, I like my cel shading and I hate coloring any other way lol Fact of life, sad but true.

      Starrii, why strive for mediocrity on Gaia? razz I know it's just Gaia, but they're drawing these things in real life, it's not like they have a stash of super perfect art that they don't show Gaians, we're talking about their personal skill too and how far they can grow as artists.

lol, I just think it's ridiculous to talk about anatomy in anime art-- it's ANIME

like, forget anatomy, let's talk about those ******** eyes first... and the nose, and the mouth, and the shape of the face...

it's like, now that you've corrected all of those anatomical errors, you no longer have an image that looks even remotely anime at all, but is more reminiscent to a Bernini piece, laff.

      TO MATCH THEM IS MY REAL QUEST
      TO PWN THEM IS MY CAUSE

Well, I wonder about that. Chikkuru's style is also pretty generic. It's popular to draw shiny desu desu eyes and have stick thin legs. I have to admit, though, she does it well, which contributes.
