Starrii: I totally feel youuuuuu. When I was starting out in art school I tried SO HARD to delude myself into believing that my art wasn't really "anime" and that I should be taken seriously... then like, my sophomore/junior year I tried REALLY hard NOT to draw anime and it was so against the grain it didn't really work out..
Then, my senior year, I decided to just go with it
sad my commercial/portfolio work is now something that I wouldn't consider visibly anime, but DEFINITELY anime influenced in a lot of ways (line weight, colors, etc) and I'm getting to be happier with it-- I don't want to get rid of my roots entirely, but I definitely want to be taken seriously as an illustrator some day down the road.
here's my portfolio (needs updating) u_U if anyone is interested in crappy gradients and even crappier realism, lulz

OTL That sounds... so much like what I think would happen if I go to art school. x__x;;
I think I'd pick up realism a little easier though. IDK. I've always loved realism a lot. But. Well.
Cartoon is actually something that I enjoy doodling in... All my "paint" art look rather cartoony at the start just because I know I don't have to *work* to get anime. x__x;; otlotlotl Cartoon is "fun" but at the end of the day I like end results in an anime style... Or maybe I just don't want to step out of my comfort zone. ):
sorry I'm babbling. I'm just so confused about my future atm.

Dju xD Fine, I won't go step in your territory LOL
xDD Omg... I never give people the "What I'd pay" price. I'm so picky and unless it's one of the few artists that I like, I wouldn't pay a cent for it. x__x;;
Also, on the subject of "swan like necks and chunky thighs"... It has to do with style originality too, doesn't it? And how much they worked on it. If the style is original and the work gone in it is pretty, then I don't think it's that much of a sin really. I just get really ticked off when very sub-par art in general get like, 5mil each piece. x__x;;
