Story of Anir
The Betrayal
The Betrayal-

We had decided for purpose's sake to plan the wedding day on the brink between the end of Summer and the Dawn of Fall. It had been many months since the proposal on that fated day, where he graced my finger with the essence of purified myrthrill in a wonderful wedding band that glinted as I admired it. Deep below the depths of the waters, I sat musing and brooding over my life as the rest of the water sprites twirled around me, combing my hair, fixing my dress, admiring the pearly glow of my skin. All the mythics, and powerful of Gaia would be congregating of course, for Gaia was a young land and weddings were far and inbetween. The wedding would be held at the rivers bank, on the meadow with the Great Mother Oak and a priest of the monastery come to bless us with the grace of the Gods. A sharp intake of breath caught my attention, and I turned my gaze away from my ring and looked towards the mouth of my abode. My sisters were gathered, my bridesmaids, all dressed in the deepest of azure dyes as they swam over to me.

“Oh Anir, you look extravagant.”Janri murmured as her hand took the seashell comb from one of the attendants and began smoothing out my hair as she took the familiar job once more. Indeed, that was what my reputation was to be, where all the men of the land had come to frolic and woo me. My sisters had their lovers, I was different, I would be permanently situated with a lover. A mortal no less. The mirror in front of me was huge, spanning wide enough to reflect the whole room and nearly touching the ceiling. My hair floated around my face, not a knot nor a mess as Janri applied some weight oil to keep my hair in place once I came out of the river. My skin let the water fall off and my dress was impervious to the currents. Such was the handicraft of nymphs. Lazily, my hand fell upon my dress, stroking the lace and intricate designs delicately. Who knows how long my Sisters and Cousins spent creating this dress? It was perfect, with the layered look descending all around me and spilling into a swath and sea of pearl cloth at my feet with an unbelievably large train. However, each stitch, each lace, held a story and held the precision of the sprite's needles. Upon closer inspection, the lace yielded small images of the many years of my life and the river.

Floating up from my seat, I gathered my dew drop necklace and earrings and fixed them to their places. Already, the water was quivering as the audience and attendants were gathering upon the shore as the ceremony was going to begin. My sisters gathered on both sides of me, and the heavy call of the horn penetrated the watery depths and called for the bride.

It was time.

Swimming upwards with a bouquet of both land flowers and sea flowers, a shower of metals came into the water as the surface of the water approached me. My head broke the water, and my eyes caught all the sights and sounds of the scene. It was perfection, the fading sunset cast bands of deep orange, red and pink over the setting as the pixies glowed softly in the tree. The land was sloped so I merely had to step up instead of using my arms. As I gazed from behind my veil, I could see the rows of people as they gasped and awed. Not only for the extravagant dress, but for the beauty that was ever so rumored. In the water, some of my cousins sung a deep melody as I walked down the swath of red towards my husband to be. From behind the lace, his warm eyes met the rippling currents of my own blue ones. My heart beat so hard, so quickly, that it drowned the song of the nymphs and the hush of the wind. I could smell the forge on him, it was breathtaking!

As I stepped up and faced him, and my heart quivered in joy as I could feel the warm brush of skin even from behind my encompassing dress, and even from the foot that separated us or the tuxedo he wore.

And then it went all wrong.
An unearthly scream stabbed the air, a familiar scream...the sound of my sister. Janri! In utter surprise, I dropped my bouquet and turned around just as her heavy body fell upon me. A burnt smell tinged the air, and time slowed as my eyes that once beheld the beauty of my wedding just moments before saw the large ugly burn on my sister's left shoulder that smoked and oozed blood. I felt my knees buckle beneath me as the combined weight of what was happening, and my sister brought me down.

My eyes traveled slowly to the a female figure appearing beside my to-be husband as I had turned around for help. And a sight before me chilled me to the core, a woman of tan skin and fiery red hair, dressed in an extravagant fiery orange dress had her arm encircled around MY fiancé's waist. But my breath caught as I saw his own arm go around hers, and his once warm eyes stare cruelly into mine. It was if the time between that gaze was eternity as his other hand tilted the chin of this red haired b***h and then his lips, those same lips that pressed mine, founds hers.

It was the shrieks that snapped me back into reality. All around us, everywhere, hordes of fiery demons and pyrotechnics descended upon this holy site of matrimony. Flaming hair, and wild eyes with tongues curled and shrieks of fear from my guests and bouts of laughter from the intruders.

“Hey Anir...”

I gripped Janri as I turned around, his face was right in mine, the scent of ash and metal sickening me to the core now as he sneered. His last words to me stung me beyond all means,

“I never loved you.”

Something died in me that one moment as a battle was being fought between my guests and Pyro's friends. I couldn't move, I was paralyzed with confusion, and fear, and heart break. My heart refused to be broken, and unaware to me, a strand of my deep blue hair colored an icy transparent blue. My two other sisters grabbed me while one of my cousins grabbed Janri from me. All that time, Janri hadn't uttered a word and her eyes were closed as she was dragged away from me.

“NO, take Janri to the river!”My voice was shrill as I wrenched my arms away from my sisters, while they grasped onto Janri and dived into the waters. All around me, embers seared the ground and the great mother oak groaned as her crown was alight. I was baffled, confused, and I didn't know why he would do this to me. I marched back down the aisle, but time was slow, and each step took a century. Flames whizzed past me, the cackle of demons rang in my ears. Together, Pyro and his lover clutched onto one another, the priest marrying them under threat of a sword being pressed into his back as he was forced to marry such an unholy couple. As the priest uttered the final words, the sword was driven into him and he died, his red blood soaking the ground as the couple turned to face me. All the rest of the world no longer mattered to me, and it was only the unspoken question:Why?

His smirk burned more than the flames roaring around me, his hands placed only on his wife. Such cruelty. My heart broke. It shattered into innumerable pieces, no matter how much I denied the truth. My knees buckled, the force of will seeping away as I collapsed. All I remember was the cool arms wrapping around me, and leading me back into the waters....
