Children are continually bombarded with advertising for fast food and unhealthy treats. One of the most important lessons you can teach them is how to tend and grow their own food from the garden.

When plants are ready, they are sold in several ways. Nurseries may sell some annuals in large trays, flat trays, peat pots, porcelain, or plastic pots. Each tray may contain only one or several plants. Most perennials, shrubs and woody plants may be sold in either pots, bare root or balled and in several sizes, varying from liners to mature trees.

To get rid of such insects, you may want to choose an organic pesticide. A great tip for pesticides is to spray an organic pesticide onto the flowers as well as the entire plant. This will make sure you are thoroughly getting rid of the insects and any eggs that have been laid on the plant. Make sure to spray under the leaves. This is to help insure that the insects do not come back.

If you plan to plant many rose varieties in your garden bed, then do not plant them all next to each other. Roses will grow better if you can maintain a proper distance between the plants. In early spring plant bare root roses, and transplant young roses if needed. Check soil pH and add lime if pH is below 6.5. Prune established roses to shape the bushes, remove dead or damaged leaves and open up the interior to allow for good air circulation.

Onions, peas and peppers planted earlier in the season produce more. If you are getting a late start on these vegetables, you may consider using more mature plants from your nursery. If you are worried about diseases, use a garden box or a small corner of your garden to plant these. Water the soil with boiling water to kill microorganisms a day or so before you plant. If you do notice disease, remove the plant and the soil. Fill with peat moss or soil from your nursery to avoid further problems.
