Suzy and Daniel Lyons have been involved in gardening North Shore & surrounds for over 10 years and through their experience have a vast horticultural knowledge as well as a strong focus on client relationships. During this time their experience and expertise in business and garden maintenance has given the company the opportunity to maintain some of Sydney's finest properties.

The first step in improving your garden soil is preparation. If grass and weeds have not been removed yet, this is where you should start. If you are working with a small area, say less than 10 square feet, you can probably get by using a sharp spade and some brute force. However, if you're removing grass from a larger area, you might want to consider renting a sod kicker or gas powered sod cutter for a day, as this will make the work faster and much easier.

A rose garden or any perennial garden will benefit by loose, open mulch 6 to 8 inches deep. If the covering is heavy it will hold too much water and can be injurious. Leaf mold, peat moss, autumn leaves mixed with straw litter will prevent from packing too hard. Fine straw and evergreen boughs are some of the materials which may be used as mulch. Put your mulch over the perennials in the fall after the early frosts have penetrated about six inches into the ground.

The purpose of a therapy garden is to provide emotional, spiritual or physical rehabilitation to those who need it. These types of community gardens are popular with hospitals, elder care facilities, therapy centers, substance abuse rehabilitation centers, and special needs schools. Therapy gardens are based on the principal that humans crave connectedness with nature. A green space encourages exercise and introspection, both of which are healing.

Eating organic produce is a growing trend in today's eco-conscious and health centric world. To that end, many families have turned to growing their own food at home so they can ensure a completely organic diet, and greenhouse gardening is one means of growing produce almost year-round. However, even the strictest organic gardener must have some method of controlling common garden pests. In this article, we'll explore some organic pest control methods for greenhouse gardeners.

Perhaps colors and themes are of no interest to you, maybe it's profiting from your garden that's more important. In that case, decide on what would thrive best based on the amount of space, soil, lighting and drainage conditions of your garden. You could offer the usual fare of vegetables or you could specialize in certain types, ones that may be harder to find in the grocery stores.
