Pips is my pet puffer fish and he lives in the bowl on the nightstand by my bed. At least, that's where he's supposed to live, but since we're underwater there's nothing stopping him from swimming wherever he pleases. It drives papa right up the waterfall when he's in the middle of doing important Alpha Kraken things and suddenly Pips is there playing with his hair or swimming right in front of whatever important paper Papa is reading. So I have decided to try to take Pips out for a long swim when I get home from school every day to try to tire him out.

Mama gave me Pips for Kwanzaa two years ago - he is a rare colored puffer fish in my favorite color, bright sunny yellow. Her job as a marine dieologist means she gets to explore and study all the different corners of the ocean. She finds all sorts of uhhh-mazing things, and she sends me pictures and gifts all the time. I always look forward to breaks from school when I can go and visit her in some deep ocean trench or a haunted island in the Boomuda triangle.

I think the most surprising thing mama has found on her many expeditions is a Mad Scientist named Homer Merha. He studies monster genetics and they worked together on some projects tracing the origins of Polynesian sea monsters. I knew they had become friends, but imagine my surprise when she sent me a message saying that the two of them are dating! It's hard to believe my mama is dating a normie, even a mad one. When I told papa he grumbled a bit and said something under his breath about how mama always does whatever she wants. Then he cleared his throat, blew a few bubbles and said that if it makes her happy, then good for both of them.

I guess maybe Pips got some of his headstrong personality from mama!
