if dogs cold talk #11
(I’m going back to alternating from Gruff & Sparky again)

[Recap:] Last time, Gruff found out that he was going to fight a German shepherd named Bleda Oasch (Pronaunced; Bell-duh Ow-sh. This means, stupid @$$ hole [my joke to you]) Nikkei, the girl in the dog fighting “business” has conveyed her sympathy towards Gruff’s fighting the dog, but Gruff is still deluded by his feelings of pride, loyalty, and blood lust. Will Gruff fight Bleda Oasch and survive, if he does, what will happen? Will his addiction to fighting grow worse? Will he be the polar opposite of the playful puppy he once was? Or will his part in this marathon, “hit the wall.” As they say…?

Tonight… Tonight is the night I have waited for. To night is the night I make Master Draken Proud he chose me over that stupid, runty Sparky. That little ball of fur couldn’t fight his way out of a wet cardboard box, especially since he was always afraid of the water. That little runt… He was too scared to go to Master. Too scared to ever leave his perfect life for fear of what was out there. I wasn’t though. I was the brave one. I am living proof that master is good and that stupid farmer was bad. Even still, I fond my self thinking of the farm though. Found my self thinking of the good and bad times. I could remember the time we went to wake up the farmer. We crept up to his room and jumped on the bed, barking all the while. I remembered the day that mom died, and how Sparky was always her favorite. Anger came over me at this. How dare he… He was always the scared one and mom liked HIM the best?! I was always doing the things that he wouldn’t, and never got so much as a “good job.” But now that master is here, I can regain the honor I lost thanks to that … thing I used to call my brother.

A mouse ran across the floor at the sight of me. As it scurried across the floor to get away from me, I swung my paw down onto its tail, trapping it. It tried to scurry away, but I dragged it against its will towards my snout. I sniffed it, and I heard it give a squeak of fear. That mouse was scared of me… ME! What have I done to it?! I’ll show you fear you little rat. NOW you can be afraid! I squeezed the toes of my front paw together to lift the mouse into the air. I sat up and looked at it. It still squirmed, still fought for freedom. You foolish little pest, I am bigger than you. I have power you don’t. You are nothing compared to me. I could feel the creature’s life in my paw. The power to either bring death to the creature, or to grant it life filled my head with an intoxicating sense of power. I was a god to this little thing, it was nothing, and I was something. I had power, It could only beg me to let it live. Its struggling made me mad. Why struggle if you can’t escape a God’s wrath? You stupidity infuriates me, you shall die! I took the little mouse into my mouth and felt the crunch in my mouth as its bones slowly broke between my teeth. The power to control life and death was beyond brilliant. It was a level of ecstasy that no one but those with power could have, and I had power.

I could hear masters feet coming up the stairs no to my little room I deemed my own. He entered the door and saw the remains of the mouse. He raised his eyebrows in apparent surprise, then a grin stretched across his face. “Oh yes, you are ready. My friend, Gruff, I have a special gift for you. Something you deserve. Master pulled out a plastic bag that read “Petco.” He pulled out a black leather strip with silver spikes and a crimson tag on it. He slipped it around my neck and latched it into place. I looked down at the tag. It read, “Gruff” I looked at Master Draken and licked his face, leaving streaks of blood on it from the mouse. He wiped his face, pulled out a treat from his pocket and fed it to me. “I know that you will do well my friend. That other dog will not stand a chance against you.” He patted my head affectionately and I thought; this is a badge of honor from Master. This Is like badge of honor. Gruff’s badge of honor. MY badge of honor. I’ll bet that that stupid Sparky doesn’t’ have on. He is not honorable enough to have one of these.
