Okay.
I'm picky, I know that.
But there are some horrid, horrid things alive in Barton Town. These are a few rules and guidelines to finding a decent gem among the large, festering slop bucket.
First and foremost: Avoid, at all costs (no matter how much you like it), series, anime, movie, book, and game roleplays. They, as a rule, suck. No matter how much you love naruto, there's no point running around as a fake little ninja. No matter how hot Twilight made you, no one will live up to the standards of crappy writing that was that book.
Now that this unpleasantness is out of the way, we can move on to rule number two: Avoid any roleplay that has "Roleplay" or "RP" In the freaking title. Of course it's an RP, its Barton Town, just like /b/ is in the GD. You don't need to announce it and anyone so redundant isn't worth the time of day.
Rule three: Look for a plot. If there's not even a general idea of what is going on, you know, what you should we working toward, there's nothing to play. No story is a no go.
Fouth: Cater to your play level. If you don't think you can handle a Adv. Lit. RolePlay, Don't apply. Personally, I can't handle the nub ones. They hurt to read.
Fifth: If, in the first page, anyone uses astrix(*) or chatspeak, leave immediately. This should be a given.
Sixth: Try to avoid anything with Premades. Premades are for lazy ********. Things aren't supposed to be perfect. Good Roleplays are everyone's brainchild, not a sole creator.
Seventh: LIMIT YOUR ******** CHARACTERS.
Having more than 8 players at a time gets confusing and just striaght up annoying. Don't even bother if you would be one of 30.
Eighth: Make sure there is a screening process for players. Unfiltered profiles that generally suck are usually a bad sign. Anything with more than four words misspelled per paragraph is usually crap. There are some exceptions, but only if a person has marvelous ideas.
Ninth: Background check your GM. Just because they're running the thing doesn't mean they're hot s**t. If they've got 1-4 line posts, ditch.
And finally: Look for threads created with love. An excited GM is usually a better GM. I don't mean look for flashy pictures and font, I mean carefully thought out plot. I mean realistic ( for the game) characters. Look for conflict between characters ideas. Conflict creates a story.

I put things here.
“GENERALLY PEOPLE LIKE TO MOVE ON, Death hinted. THEY LOOK FORWARD TO AN AFTERLIFE.
“I Will Stay Here, Please.”
HERE? THERE’S NOTHING TO DO HERE, said Death.
“Yes, I Know,” said the ghost of the golem. “It Is Perfect. I Am Free.”
― Terry Pratchett, Going Postal
You will be sorely missed.
