I know its been a while since my last FI, but lately all the games coming out either kept pulling me in that I couldn't stop playing or they were just too damn easy (you know which game you are) and already beat them. That means these would turn into reviews which I am not trying to do. So here we are, the long awaited sequel to Silent Hill 3, yes number 3. The fourth game doesn't exist in my universe. From every preview I watched and every screen I rubbed myself to, I felt that this game was going to hit home, an actual "Survivor-Horror" game. The last one we saw that could possibly be classified as one, was the Resident Evil remake for the GC. That game actually scared you, not just give you a gun that shoots glitter and happiness. Anywho, the game starts in a FP view and we are being wheeled down a hallway by some surgeon that I like to think is Dr.House. We get a glance into some nearby rooms and each one looks like they were taken straight out of Hostel. We eventually get to our room, and the lovely Dr.House leaves the room only to be impaled by you-know-who. A small button mashing sequence is given and we break free from our restraints and finally take control of Alex Shepherd. The controls are easy and simple to use, which is perfect for this genre, and the camera is responsive. For the next 10 minutes or so, you end up looking for your brother who acts like an arrogant d**k to you when you do find him. And like every other younger sibling god created, he runs away from you. So you "attempt" to chase him down, until you come to the womens washroom. There you come across your first weapon, good'ol fashion military issued knife. This is where the fun begins. We hear the infamous siren and the level transforms around you the way it did in the movie, which actually worked. Then out from one of the stalls comes Nurse Joy. Its after I killed her I was able to embrace the game. The screen flickered around a bit and had scratches across it like an old fashioned movie. I was in love. After that, every turn I took I was actually scared, this game had my heart racing. A few nurses and a few jumps later I got near the end of the level. The way I could tell, I heard the very familiar sound of metal being drug across the floor. This is where I felt my bowels would escape. But they were good at keeping the suspense up, you never do get to see our favorite date rapist, but he does stab your throat. This is the part where the story is supposed to take off, but it doesn't. It's Silent Hill, wait sorry, Shepards Glen. But here is my biggest gripe with the game, the fog. The fog is a very important scare factor in the game because you don't know whats there. The sad thing is, is its thinner, and it makes the game look like crap now. It looks all pixelated and distorted. So about an hour and a half later of playing...I got bored. There was no scare factor anymore. I could play this game in the dark now. That isn't right, not at ******** all. I eventually did end up in Silent Hill, but the scenery hasn't changed at all, so I still feel robbed. It was a good game at the start, but dropped the ball way too early in the game. I only hope I get to hear more sirens soon otherwise it might go back on EB's shelf.
