I recently picked up a copy of Infinite Undiscovery, and by recently I mean I was one of 2 people to pre-order it at the local EB Games. That at first should tell you of the hype this is getting over here. Next to none. Most of my friends only know it by title, nothing else. The game has a typical Sqeenix opening. A nice close look at the scenery to show how good they are at graphics, and lately that's all they're good with. The gripe i have with the scenery, is that it looks like the same world as FFXII. We then get a look at 4 characters, and you can automatically guess that ones a bad guy since the other 3 are about to wrench rape the s**t out of him. And out of nowhere he pulls a Spawn move and shoots chains at everyone....and misses! A dozen or so chains and he can't hit a single person, he just got pushed down to p***y status. His chains then seem to morph together and create wings, which than make him look a lot like Vincent in Chaos form. And that's the opening video. We are then thrown into a jail, where we take control of a, believe it or not, a teenager with normal ******** hair. That's a first for a JRPG. After a quarrel with the guards we get rescued by a girl who seems to be a cross between Yuffie and Princess Garnet. Is Squeenix running out of ideas or something? We are then given a brief, thank god, tutorial in party combat which they throw at you out of nowhere. Its a little difficult to understand at first, but maybe I'll get the hang of it after I beat the game twice, if I get that far. After my first encounter with the enemies, I am treated to one of the oldest RPG elements that I thought has been long extinct...No voice acting in minor cut scenes. I thought that was done. Did they not have enough money to pay the actors to fulfill they're character. The game is over two ******** discs, and they don't have the space for VO's. I'm tired if reading in RPG's. The game play in the game looks like it was taken right out of Rogue Galaxy, which is okay, but not when you sometimes need to switch between characters. After getting over that, the next shitty part hit me. For the rest of the level, I have to out run a fat-red-ogre. C'mon, running isn't a way to grab the gamers attention in a RPG, they style of game that is built on combat and experience. Anyways, I beat the level and get treated with more reading for another few minutes. Then I find out I need to stealthily taker out guards, which I would get an achievement for if they didn't ******** it up after 2 kills. Wandering through a dark forest slicing some backbone is fine, but not when the guards seem to magically know where you are. After that, its pretty much fighting guards, dogs, and bees. Yes, bees. Can anyone guess what happens after half of the level? Thats right, MORE ******** RUNNING. That tub-o-s**t ogre chases me threw the forest, completely destroying any chance of getting that achievement no matter how many ******** times I play this game. It doesn't help that enemies throw themselves at me, blocking my path, just so I can be bounced around by that fatass. And FINALLY, at frikin last, a cut scene with VO's. But wait, this part is ruined as well, by the character Eugene. He looks like he was modeled after Hal 'Otacon' Emmerich. He even does the 'push his glasses' like he always does. And that's what I got after about an hour of playing. I don't know if I'll be able to return to this RPG in the future. Hopefully Fable 2 does better.
