For the first time ever in my video game career, and yes I consider playing video games in my spare time a career, I feel the need to buy a pack of Depends. 15 minutes maybe not even, and already I felt the urge to s**t and piss myself at the same time. This game is ******** scary. And I found out something today: when I get scared, I get aggressive...REALLY aggressive. No so much as punching a child in the kidney's and watching him cry just to fill the void in my life. More like I yell at the screen and call everything that's still twitching, a "******** c**k sucker cuntaloupe." Anywho with my edginess aside, this game delivers what I had dreamed for: fear. I am literally scared to put the disc in my PS3. And that is why it is staying inside it, that way phase one of ridding my pussyness is already complete. The atmosphere of this game is what gets to me first. Unlike the new SH, it always feels like something is breathing down your neck. If it's not that, its the never ending sound effects that rip through the hallways that keep you on the edge of your seat. Every time you take a step, there is something down the hall that is making some sort of noise, weather it is an enemy or just the natural physics the game provides. And when you do come across an enemy, they almost feel as frightened as you when they first lay eyes(?) on you. Its not until there are more of them and they learn of your hostile nature they mean to kill you. And do these creatures ever look stunning. It looks like something John Carpenter came up with during the filming of The Thing back in the 80's. There is only one problem I have with them though, each type look the same. There is nothing that separates each type of monster apart. They should each have something slightly altered to their look to make them more unique and disturbing. And the gore....oh how I love the gore. There is so much blood and guts in this game, it would make Eli Roth cry himself to sleep. The environment you are thrown into is as well nicely detailed and gives you a feeling of claustrophobia, making it that much more intense. But with all these beautiful graphics laid out in front of us, there is one graphic that bothers me, Kendra's hair. I thought we were past the part of the gaming world where hair stays in one position like its held together with packing tape. Sure it moves side to side, but it never splits apart, but I'll get over it when she dies....c'mon, she will, its way too predictable. But the best part of this game altogether is the game play. I thought I would never live to see the day where a next-gen game has a near perfect control scheme. There are three main attack buttons, but the L1 is what gives you your sub-menu of attacking options. The R buttons supply you with melee attacks which amazingly do wicked amounts of damage. Using the R2 you are able to use your foot to curb stomp your enemies which is the sure way to make them dead. But in that perfection lies a teeny-tiny problem which I look past every time I use it. You seem to have some amount of super strength seeing as your boot splits multiple limbs apart from the torso, bit oh well it's glorious every ******** time I do it. The in game menu is literally, an in game menu. The only way the game stops is by hitting the start button. Any time you bring up the inventory or map and whatnots, the game still plays, giving that sense of always being there. It's like they're trying to tell you, "There are no safe spots in life." And now I believe it, If your going to use the menu, corner yourself and turn the volume up to make sure you don't get raped Pyramid Head style. So far, I give this game 1 and a half thumbs up, only cause it can come back around and bite me in the a**....which it probably will knowing they forgot to include a 180 degree turn button *gulp*.
