"Do I frighten you?"
Dream 806
The scene opened in an old style class room. The kind where every class was a different worn down shack-like building, the yard was dirt, and everything was very western. My name is Makoto Hoshino. I am fifteen years old and here is my story.

It was a normal day at school, except the fact that I felt like I was being pummeled to the ground. Every muscle in my body ached. I got through my first class and everyone left the room. At this school, the classes changed out, even the teachers left the room. My teacher, Ms. Mewt, told me to take my time. She was always looking out for me. I gathered my things and that took almost five minutes because my muscles ached so badly. I stood up and noticed the class in the room was all starring at me, along with the teacher.

I looked at the few books in my arms and looked up at the black haired teacher. “Ms. Mewt permitted me to-“

The woman let out an annoyed sigh. “Come. We are calling your parents to explain to them why you will be failing this year.”

I didn’t understand what she meant but I followed her to another part of the room. I looked at the phone and looked at the teacher. “You cannot call my parents…”

“And why not? You are late for your next class now, have talked back, and will be in detention this afternoon.” The woman said, lifting the phone in her manicured hands.

“They’re dead…” I mumbled and turned, running out of the room. It was excruciating to even move, but I had to get out of that class room. My legs pumped painfully on the hard, dirt covered ground. I slammed into something and some man in a suit towered over me. I fell to the ground, the world around me slowed as my tailbone snapped on the ground.

I struggled to my feet, seeing the man had an ear piece in and sun glasses, mumbling something in some weird code. I figured he was someone not to mess with so I turned and ran again. I turned and was cornered by old rusted metal walls. I turned and ran out of that, through an area between classrooms outside. I fell and my world went black.

My consciousness returned after a moment and someone was holding me, running. The person seemed a lot bigger than my mere five feet, two inches, height. I looked around, seeing that many others were running with us. They were fellow students, but they usually paid no mind to me. I looked up at the guy holding me. His face wasn’t clear through the fever in my eyes. I looked at the ground and spoke, my voice was soft and scratchy. “I’m alright now…”

The guy nodded and set me down. The room had white walls on each side, a large window on one wall. There was a white wall on another wall but it was hard to notice. The others looked at me and I sighed. “I don’t know what’s going on…but I’ve got to get out of-“ I cringed at a pain in my arm, everyone’s eyes widened.

I eyed my am, blood flowing quickly from a bullet wound. Many men in black suites walked through the door. I groaned, ’These guys again?’ I turned and ran towards the window, covering my head and neck with my arms. I threw myself through the window, only stumbling slightly on dirt ground again. I ran for a long time, finally coming to a city area.

I could hear my struggled heartbeat ringing in my ears and turned into a café that was dimly lit with blue lights. I went to the counter and looked at the woman, “My fever is spiking…I need something to bring it down fast…”

“I’m sorry we don’t have anything…” She said, looking at my blood covered arms.

I nodded, my world went black again. I opened my eyes to the same guy holding me and walking to a booth. “W-what...again?”

He sat down; the same group of students was there. Everyone was watching me. We heard a shriek and glass break, doors opened and closed. All of us exchanged looks and my world went black. My fever was high enough to kill me but I had to get away from these adults who were all after me for some reason.

I woke up in a school bus, laying in one of the seats that stretched across the back. My head was in the guy’s lap; my bloody arms dampened my shirt and the seat under me. I tried to sit up and used my arms, cringing and falling back. “Where are we going?” I asked.

People crowded around me, all looking straight at my glassy eyes. A voice broke the silence from the front of the bus. “We’re running. We’ll get somewhere safe for you Makoto…” I recognized the voice as Ms. Mewt. I smiled softly, getting myself sitting up.

The guy who had held me for so much was watching out the window for the black cars the men all drove. It was quiet in the bus and I looked at the group of people around me. “Does anyone have anything for a fever?” No one responded. I sighed. “Great…”

We all pulled up to a large building. I tried to stand but fell over, trying my best to keep the consciousness that was fading from me. I wasn’t strong enough and blacked out again. I woke up in the dark and sat up to quickly, falling back down.

“It’s just you and I here…everyone else left…” The guy from before said. Why couldn’t I figure out who he was? I didn’t have a boyfriend. I didn’t have many friends.

“Alright…let’s go then…” I said, unable to move much.

“We can’t do that…The FBI is after you and on the other side of the door are two unworldly creatures, neither are in a good mood.” He did something that I didn’t see in the dark and a small opening was in a wall. I looked and two enormous creatures seemed to be bickering. The hole closed. “You might as well get some rest…”

I let my world go black yet again. This passing out thing was getting annoying. I woke up, hearing a slow beep occur every once in a while. My arms were bound with something; I didn’t want to open my eyes. I could feel something plastic over my nose and mouth, helping me to breath. My eyelids were heavy but I opened them slowly. The guy that was always saving me was sitting beside the hospital bed I was on. I squinted because it was so bright in the room. “What…”

“I took you to the hospital after everything cleared. They didn’t give you long to live, Makoto. You’re dying…” He said, standing and turning the light off, noticing it was bugging me.

“Did you find out why those guys were after me?” I asked, my voice faded with most of the words.

He looked at the ground. “I don’t know what you are talking about. We were in a car accident on our way to the movies…I was fine…You weren’t so lucky…”

I looked up at him as a long beep rang through my ears. I closed my eyes, opening them again. He was crying on the bed. Doctors rushed in and took him by the shoulders, helping him stand. “She’s lasted longer than most would have…” They said. I starred as a blanket was pulled over my head. The doctor said something; I didn’t hear it and I can’t read lips. He looked very serious. I wonder what he was saying.

I sat up through the blanket, it just phased through me. I looked at the cloth and got out of the bed. “I’m right here…” I walked out of the room in my hospital gown. I felt much better. I felt sadness everywhere though. I walked up to the guy. “Hey! I’m okay!” I said, climbing up onto his back and poking his head.

He ran his fingers through his hair where I’d touched him, watching the ground.

“It’s me. I’m here.” I said as he walked out to the parking lot. I stopped, watching him get into his car and speed off.

My world faded into a blur of merely watching everything for a while. I walked to a newspaper stand and read the headline. “Young Makoto Hoshino dies from car accident.” I looked at it, my eyes widened. I couldn’t touch it to read more. I saw half of a truck; the rest was cut off by the limits of the case the paper was in. I ran inside and found someone with a newspaper. I read over the person’s shoulder. There was a picture of a truck; the passenger’s seat in the back was smashed in. There was a bad school picture of me underneath a picture of a hospital room where a girl was bruised all around her face, bandages were on her arms. I saw flowers all around that room. I read on.

‘A young couple was in a car accident about a year ago. The male, Kazuma Higuchi, got away with minor injuries. Makoto Hiroshi wasn’t as lucky. After hitting her head several times as the car rolled, she had a concussion and pressure in her head was cutting her life short. She was placed in a medically induced coma to save her life. After waking up yesterday, her life was taken from her. She was announced dead at Ten Fifty-nine in the morning.’

I didn’t bother reading the rest of the article. I gasped. “So I really am dead…” I thought aloud as everything went black.
