I've been doing creative things, too. No, video games are not my life. I just wanted to let you know about my progress... and maybe rant about my beta-reader a little. I love my beta-reader to death. He's a good friend of mine, who refused to do an overall check of the story. I got him to agree to check my plot for holes and my characters for inconsistancies. He's been blunt with me, and I've rewritten the first chapter many times to try to please him. Well, I finally got a first paragraph that he actually likes. That doesn't sound like much, but it is to me. He liked the first paragraph. No info dumping, no long background explanation from a lifeless narrator, nothing like that at all. He liked it, since it gave us a feel for the main character without being dry about it (showing the reader what the character is like at home, rather than telling). The only problem is that I've been writing and rewriting this thing to just be background that I realized that I don't have any of the antagonists fleshed out. So, that was a pretty big "oh s**t!" moment for me. That's why I only have a paragraph because once the two protagonists start talking, the antagonists get involved in the story.

This story was started as a request from a friend. Well, my brother's lover keeps demeaning me about it by calling it "just a ******** fanfic." No, nevermind that I created the characters, the world, the relationships, and the conflicts. No, none of that stuff matters. Just focus on the fact that it features prismatic soldiers. Yes, it's a "******** Sentai fan fiction." So, I suppose by that note Ronin Warriors/Samurai Troopers is a Sentai fan fiction, too or magical girl series are all Sailor Moon fan fics. Sorry, the close-mindedness of his statement left me kind of annoyed. Anyway, I really have spent months working on this thing, since it's a series of stories. Here's hoping I can get people to look at it as something at least half-way original and I can keep my beta's approval.

The basic plot of this one about a war. The "evil" alien empress used a radiation bomb on the city and is collecting those who were effected by the radiation to use them as weapons. While she's doing that, an extra-terrestrial sociologist and a technology genius come up with a way for the radiation effected to fight the empress, using her own technology (deemed "magic" on Earth) against her. That sounds really lame, but it does all ready have a soul. I'll post when the first chapter is ready.

I've been working on another story, too. Mostly because I'm tired of people telling me the first one is fan fiction. This one was based off a strange dream I had. In the dream, there were these guys who were trying to spy on a gang who had demonic connections. They both have some sort of strange power, and one of them is with the human police. The gang members found out that the cop was a cop and ordered the other guy to show his loyalties. So, he charged up his power into a knife and ran the cop through. A purple light covered him and went into the knife, and the attacker was crying. Then... I woke up. Honestly, I have no idea what that dream was supposed to mean, unless it was another killer plot bunny or muse. As much as I liked that scene, I'm not going to write it down. My beta-reader is actually highly against using writing journals in that regard. I understand his point of view, so I mostly do character profiles and outlines in my written journals. On blogs, I like to bounce ideas off people, but none of them are really specific. Um... well, moving on.

The idea sounds a bit cliched, but I just need to find a way to give it a soul, but that will come later (I'm sorry for going Oleg on you guys). Anyway, the basic idea is about spirit bounty hunters who go after supernatural criminals. Both sides end up being hunted by the police at one point or another. The hunters' lives become easier after they accidentally kill a detective in the cross-fire of a battle. The hunters revive the detective (in a technically undead sense). In return for that favor, the detective has to help the hunters by trying to keep the police off their trail and helping them catch high-society criminals. Okay... now that I've typed that out, it sounds like a bunch of shounen cliches thrown into one. -sigh- Can't blame a girl for trying, huh?

Tell me what you guys think. I'm looking for a new beta-reader for the second story. I also have a bunch of dead ideas that I'm willing to part with. If anyone is interested, let me know.
