His breathe stilled in his chest as he stared at her, following her around as she demonstrated what it was that she could do. He had been fascinated by the arrow appearing in her hands, though confused as to how it came to be. She was a weapons specialist then? Or something? But then it vanished into thin air, leaving scorch marks across her hand. He had yelped, automatically reaching out to take her hands and see what he could do for them, but she waved him away, leading him to the water, where she demonstrated her healing ability. That was… he would have to admit, pretty awesome. She was far more skilled at that than his attempts to heal his own burns the other day (a water cast, ha! Hers would be a useful skill to learn). Then, finally, she stepped back, forming another thing in between her hands. A shield? With a wide gesture and a nice flourish, she pronounced herself finished.

He smiled at her, his grin stretching ear to ear even as he digested what it was she could do. Offensive magic, defensive, healing… This girl was going to prove incredibly powerful, and a fantastic ally, especially when she had full control of her powers. “Thay… Een-cray-bul” he said aloud, coupling it with his gestures before catching himself.

Oops. She probably couldn’t understand him.

Shaking his head, he pulled out the notebook again, turning it to a clean page: Incredible! And you have so much control. Where did you learn to do that? To control it as well as you do? And… Do you tutor? If she did, he could ask her for help with the healing. Or maybe see if her powers would fix his brain (as if).

Sam didn't have to wait long to see what Ikaro thought about her powers. He was smiling and even tried to say something. That and something else she couldn't quite make out. But he was quick, grabbing her notebook and handing it to her. She smiled again when it she realized that had been what his last word was. Though she started to feel a little embarrassed when he began to praise her abilities. That was different to her, usually the little kids would just say how incredible it was and everyone else would tell her to stop since she had no way of controlling it. It was different to hear someone actually say she had control.

She shifted a bit, realizing with his question that she would have to say she was an orphan. Not one where a child's parents died and they had nowhere to go, but one where the child had been abandoned. Everyone always gave a sympathetic look to the ones with lost parents, but pity for the abandoned. She could probably leave out that part. She wasn't too sure about the tutoring. She never taught anyone about how to use magic. The other kids had tried but none of them could do a thing.

I guess I learned control because of the little kids at the orphanage I had lived at. They always wanted to see me do magic that I forced myself to learn, since the arrows are really dangerous. As for tutoring, I've never taught anyone how to use magic. I was the only one around that could do it. I could try, but I'm not making any promises. Though, in return, you will teach me sign language. She figured that was fair, she would teach him or at least try to and he would teach her to make talking to him easier. This writing back and forth took a while.

She seemed hesitant about answering his probing questions, and Ro could honestly not understand why. At least, that was, until she had finally finished scrawling her message and passed him the notebook. Orphanage she had lived at. So she had been an orphan as well, though she had been learning for the sake and safety of the others. From her answer, unfortunately, he could only assume that she was not one of the lucky ones. At least not until she was older. At least.

Clearing his throat, he pointed to the word ‘orphanage’ and gestured to himself, trying, without words, to let her know that he knew where she was coming from. At least in that regard. Though, he had been adopted when he was young, and didn’t understand what she had gone through over the years. Still, he knew that feeling. I never knew who my father was, and mum was killed in the accident that stole my hearing he wrote, his eyes growing a little distant. He didn’t remember the woman who had birthed him. I lucked out though. A nice family wanted a challenge, I suppose, and took home the only child in the place who couldn’t communicate with them. Haha. Literally. My speech was even more garbled than it is now, and I didn’t know sign language, or how to read… none of it. But still… I was blessed. Did you—. He flushed, realizing he probably shouldn’t have told her all that. If he was right, then she hadn’t gotten lucky.

With a frown, he carefully tore the bottom half of the page off, below the part where he had lost his mother. The rest was a discussion for another time. Of course, he could not have been sure if she was reading over his shoulder as he wrote or not, or would not get it from him somehow, but still. He didn’t want to make her feel bad, and this was the best he could do.

Shaking his head, he turned to her other statements. She hadn’t taught before, but she would try, in exchange for sign language lessons. He smiled, and nodded. That was more than agreeable to him. He would love to teach people to speak with him. It would make things soooo much easier after all. I can do that. Would you like to start now? I can teach you to fingerspell the alphabet to begin?

The overflowing river was forgotten from his mind for the moment.

Sam watched as he pointed to orphanage, then points at himself. It took a second for it to click that he was an orphan too. She blinked in surprise, almost ready to grab the notebook and as how he became one. But realized it was rude to ask, even she didn't like being asked by people. and it hurt worse when she found about her magic. She would hear the adults whisper about how that was probably why she had been abandoned, because her parents knew.

She gave a confused look as he tore the bottom page and stuck it in his pocket. What was that all about? Did he write something that he didn't mean to? She didn't pry, this time. This was her first possible friend since coming to the school, and she didn't want to mess it up by being pushy. She waited for him to write down what he meant to, smiling a bit when he smiled at her. Perhaps that meant he was willing to do the teaching trade with her.

She smiled when she saw that she was right. But she didn't forget the rising water. She looked back, seeing that her lessons would need to wait. Awesome. But I think we should start on your teaching first. The thing I learned about my magic it's close to my emotions. Anger, fear, happiness. I'm not sure about yours though. What were you doing when you made the water rise? It seemed like a good place to start. Figure out what you did then seeing if you can do the same by reversing it.

He flushed, glancing back over at the creek that was now creeping up on their ankles. Making a lake for swimming he admitted in his scrawl, shifting a little uneasily on his feet. Writing it down felt like too much evidence. If this continued to go bad… Well. He had a friend that could play with fire on his behalf. As long as it was in a hearth, and not on him. Ro didn’t need to get kicked out of another school already. Nothing to do but study now, right? But if there was someplace nicer to go… I’m unmatched at Marco Polo?

He sighed, his reasons sounding inept. I made the hole, wrapping the water around the earth and pushing it aside until it was big enough, deep enough. Maybe it dammed somewhere? Then I just called on whatever power guides me, and begged it to pull more water downstream. I was anxious… until I realized it was working. That’s when you got splashed.

Sam looked at his explanation and sighed. Well that didn't help her. She never asked whatever powers for help with her magic. Or maybe she did and didn't realize it. She scratched the back of her head as she stepped back, her shoes completely soaked. She would need to change, which wasn't a big deal, she had a few shoes. She shrugged, thinking of only one solution. Do what you did before, asking the powers that guide you, only ask them to reverse the effect, and whatever you did to bring the water, try to do it in a way that takes water away. I mean if pulled water brought the water, maybe pushing it will make it stop. That's all she had, strong water magic was complicated.

Hello, minna-san! I'm just checking in on how role-playing and how everything is going right now. The Annual User Run Ball (AURB) is only...ohmaigawsh....NEXT MONTH?!

I'm so sorry that I haven't roleplayed in a while, it's summer where I am, and my parents are really stocking me up with a lot of education and extracurricular. But if anyone thinks that I could join their characters in a rp right now, please tell me!
And as always, if you have any concerns, notify me or any of the other mods.

♥,
Lindelin
