「Attack on Tum-tum.」X⊱ XX
❛ • ❛ • ❛ • ❛ • ❛ • ❛- ❧ Not explicitly ordered to do anything, Adhelina held back with Estellerise. Things were moving a bit fast, and even as Derrick tried to feign control of the situation, it was clear that there was little to be had. With Raia of all people rushing headlong in without so much as a word, combat had begun, and any continued planning had to be done on the hot seat or, in someone like Reiki's case, thrown completely out the window. The elder Brit had rushed this job, accounting for abilities rather than manners. Adhelina, admittedly, only knew a few of them all that well, but the van ride over had given her a great deal more perspective on who she was working with than Derrick seemed to have.
Not that she would insist that she could do better. Whatever accounted for gods knew that she would stay modest to a fault, but she did feel that perhaps less barking orders and more asking opinions would have done this team better. Make them feel involved, give them an investment in the decision-making process, and find out what made them comfortable on the field.
Regardless, Adhelina watched the others fight. As Derrick professed he wished to do, she observed, but not just because she was lazy. He had - not in so many words - ignored her thoughts on the matter and walked in with the others, perhaps overconfident that he could respond in time to a warning from the gunner next to her. And maybe he could. However, Adhelina - for now - wanted safety above all else. Either way, Nami seemed to be handling the situation fairly well, along with Momoe and a couple others, following the orders they were given. Momoe even went so far as to distract the ones that weren't pinned with a very believable wail of terror. They ate it up, and Nami went to town on them. Others weren't so accommodating, which really came as no surprise to the Swede. Reiki himself had abandoned all pretense, and flung a fist at Derrick's manbits, only to be tossed backwards into the Anima. He took a hit, but was quickly up giving twice over. It burned Adhelina to keep still. She wanted to help. But her gut said that something was up, and she couldn't leave Estellerise to be the only one outside ground zero. If she was wrong, she would willingly take any abuse the others decided to throw at her.
Unfortunately her predictions, and her fears, were soon realized.
It started with a rumbling; tremors shook the field. Something big was coming. Something angry. In the midst of the others, the earth began to split and rise, spitting rocks and dust as an enormous shape emerged from the soil. What had once been a hill took the shape of some massive, plated, vaguely saurian thing. A turtle? It bellowed angrily, clearly not happy at what had been going on around it. Adhelina's eyes widened. A Category B had been sitting right under them, lying in wait. It had been a trap.
"GET OUT OF THERE!" Adhelina cried, though the sentiment was obvious. Not to mention too little, too late. The mammoth Anima turtle was already on them, sweeping at them with its huge, plated forefeet and snapping at them with its jaws. The ground continued to shake with its rage, the quakes reaching as far back as the vehicle; a particularly violent one knocking the redhead off her feet.
What was worse, whatever attacks the others threw at it seemed to ricochet off its stony hide or incense it further. For all intents and purposes, the thing seemed invincible while on the ground as it was. A thought that gave Adhelina an idea. Nevertheless, this is why she had stayed back, this was what she had been concerned about. And now it was time to act. She wasn't smart like Estellerise, and she couldn't act the part of natural born leader like Derrick, but anything, no matter how big, that threatened the people she cared about ran the unfortunate risk of having its a** pulled out its mouth.
Getting to her feet, Adhelina drew her weapon for the first time since physically joining the team. At present, it seemed little more than a garden trowel as she pulled it from its frog at the small of her back. But with a flick, the head extended, almost organically, forming a sword. Adrenaline coursing, she activated her soul breaker.
Instantly, her frame was overtaken by light.
Of all the soul breakers on the team, Adhelina's was most similar to Reiki's - the only real difference was that she had a bit more control over hers. Casing oneself in some sort of element and gaining a frightening amount of power in the process, it was a selfish ability, and she knew that. She couldn't give this strength to anyone else, and she couldn't really heal anyone with it. But if there was one thing she could do, it was make the bad men stop.
As the light enveloped her fully, she leapt forward, almost blinking. Adhelina's brilliant silhouette left tracers and afterimages at every pause, and each step seemed to take her yards forward with a high-pitched, energetic hum. The specters she was leaving behind showed her making a beeline for the category B, but the first casualty was one of the leftover category Cs, making the mistake of being between her and the turtle. Its bestial attempt at halting her progress seemed so sluggish as to be in slow motion. Before it could even properly register what had happened, the aptly named Valkyrie vaulted over it, tucking into a roll and slamming her blade into its back. Using it as leverage, she put her feet to its shoulders and kicked off towards the cat-B. As she flew off, the cat-C slammed into the dirt with enough force to sink it.
In an alarmingly short time, Adhelina was in front of the colossal tortoise.
With a spin of her sword, the blade shortened, each twirl bringing extra length to its hilt until it shaped a haft and took its natural form. The Swede spun her spear faster and faster, and the beast, now aware of her presence, swung its gargantuan head to face its new challenger, just as slow as the C had been. There was no worry in its eyes, only malice. As fast as it could, it moved to bite her in half. But for its troubles, it only got a spear in the jaw. Using the momentum she had been building, Adhelina swung around, smashing Hakkapeliitta into its lower jaw like a golf club with a sound to match a clarion bell. Against all odds, the massive creature's front end was launched upwards, much to its own surprise, exposing what the redhead had been hoping for all along.
A soft underneath.
With a relieved grin of victory that was lost in the vague outline of her face and in the speed with which she moved, Adhelina continued her assault, leaping towards its belly. Spear shrinking back into a blade, she gave a wide slash, leaving a vicious wound and another afterimage showing the end of her swing. Continuing to climb, the radiant phantasms that lingered after every strike made it appear as if she were in several places at once, leaving a lattice of cuts all up its exposed torso. The monster roared in pain and frustration as it attempted to regain its balance and avoid tipping backwards.
Reaching its head, the Valkyrie drew one light-sheathed leg back, then slammed her foot into its chin, toppling the beast backwards with a tremorous crash onto its rocky shell. Helpless and all the more enraged for it, it thrashed about uselessly, shaking the ground more as the lucent form of Adhelina soared above it. Before entering freefall, she mustered the last of her energy for a finishing blow. The glow encasing her body began to retreat towards her free hand, shaping into a condensed orb of intense light. With this, she could no longer maintain her upward momentum, and would plummet. But that didn't matter. What mattered, to her at any rate, was to see this fight ended and everyone safe. With a heave, Adhelina spiked the blazing ball of energy towards the thing's wounded and exposed chest, then fell to earth.
Unfortunately, she didn't quite stick the landing.
In the midst of her peers, the redhead landed on her back with a heavy thud, knocking the wind out of her with an unladylike OOF! Hakkapeliitta slipped from her fingers and clattered a short distance away. Waves of pain shot through her, right down to her bones - she even felt a few crack - as she bounced once - twice - before attempting to tuck into a combat roll to get back on her feet. For a moment, it almost worked; she was upright for all of about two seconds before her body realized what had happened to it. She fell backwards, but at least managed to catch herself, landing in a sitting position with her arms supporting her.
For a moment Adhelina sat, dazed and attempting to regain equilibrium. Gorrak lay behind her, struggling hopelessly; not dead, but nearly. Just waiting for the others to finish it.
After a moment, despite fractures and bruising, the latecomer slowly, stubbornly made her way to her feet. Wheezing a bit, she grabbed her blade and, with a flourish, it shortened back into its carry form. She jammed it into its sheathe with a sharp snik!
"Derrick." The Swede said in her usual placid manner, if a bit breathlessly.
"If you ever put them in danger like this again, I swear to Space Jesus that I will so punch you in half Birdy the Mighty style."
