When it comes to a family like the Sohma's nothing is as it seems. They are in a world of their own filled with deception and false realities. The air of secrecy and mystery that surrounds the family's inner circle, the Juunishi as they are called is all anyone has ever known. The veil has been lowered for so long that most do not even remember what lies beneath. To an outsider peering in through the tears in the cloth you would think nothing of it. The Sohma family are naturals at keeping up their facade; a normal large family with all the drama one would expect. But it is all just that a facade, a carefully constructed ruse to fool the onlooking world.

The Sohma family is known quite well though out the portion of Japan they inhabit. They hold powerful ties within the community, bending and twisting the strings of fate in their favor. It is a very rare thing when someone from the outside world is allowed a glimpse at all the family has to hide. All things are carefully watched over by the twin heads of the Sohma family. They are "The Gods."

To understand this very old and complex family you must think back upon the story's of your youth. Recall the tale of the chinese zodiac, of the banquet held by the Jade God long ago. Note the subtle details, compare them with the secrets held with in the very walls of the main estate and you just might have your answer. To the Juunishi this is no child's tale, the truth of it is all to real to the small inner circle. It is a truth that they all must live with something which none of them can ignore. Each member possessed by the spirit of one of the twelve animals who dined with God on that fateful night, each one in turn bound to their family head. Of course the cat was not forgotten in this all to real tale. He/she was cursed to live out his days as an outcast; hated by all. And then there was the God, the head of the Sohma family; a poor soul fated to life their entire life plagued with illness. An illness that would surely end them one day.

All members of the Juunishi knew one simple fact; God's word is law, their rule is absolute. However each time the curse ends and begins a new something changes. On some occasions some of the members are missing, with the waning of the Curse of the past several generations. This current generation have found themselves facing something none before them have ever seen. Twin Gods. A Jade Empress and an Emperor if you will. Both frail and poor in health, each one taking their moment of strength as the other weakens. The two never share a day in health, and their struggle makes life among the Juunishi quite difficult. With out some form of cure both twins have a sealed fate; an early death, as it stands neither know what that cure might be. Let us hope they soon discover it.

But to those roaming among the halls, to those who know it's secrets the family is very xxxxxxxxxxdifferent. No one knows the exact beginning of the curse, or the details surrounding the previous generations of the family; xxxxxxxxxx but to those who find themselves "unlucky" enough to be trapped with in it's walls this is life.

xxxxxxxxxxThere are twelve recognized members of the family that hold a bit more stature than the rest; the Juunishi they are called xxxxxxxxxxhowever there is a thirteenth member. One who is an outcast and at the same time one of the most important; the cat. xxxxxxxxxxEven within the family most do not know the true nature of their importance; they are a secretive bunch.
