Is there a faster way to get gold besides typing in forums, doing art, and playing games?

There was a point in time that this website operated off of three sources of money.

Ads. These were banner ads, video ads that gave you gold, etc and they WORKED. The generated revenue and the gave people gold. They gave more gold that just posting and butting around and therefore they were worth it. They released special advertisement events that had product placement. Anyone recall the Skittles event? I actually had a bunch of fun with that one!

MI. These items were awesome multi-pose exclusive items that would draw in about $5 a pop. Doesn't seem like a lot until you think about 300,000 purchases every month.... That's 18 million dollars on just the MI.

Real life merchandise. There was once a time that I coveted an OMG hat and a real Kiki and Coco kitty plushie pair. Now I don't even know where I could go on the site to buy one if I wanted. Those things were something like an MSRP of $30 each.

Now the website ran off of just these three things. For years and years. And I didn't have a problem when they introduced the cash shop either. People could spend cash to get a few really cool exclusive items for $10 or less. It was easy for new people to "cash in" on the newest EI and then have the gold to spend on a whole avatar after selling it on the MP. This actually DECREASED the inflation of the new items by putting more items into the system without adding gold to the system... And the end result was still a pile of gold in the hands of the user that spent IRL money on it.
The cash from those then went into the people who MADE BADASS ITEMS. That way they could take the time to make gold items more badass. That's what they told us when they opened the cash shop. More money=cooler Gaia for everyone! And you know? It worked for a while!

This is no longer the case. Gaia is making HUGE amounts of money. Where the heck is it all going? Into making gold generators that nobody wants? Into facebook butons?

Well, they did open up that new 18+ website called Tentacl, which sounds like it was inspired by a sick type of pornography. It debuted with a p***s gif on the front page. Hopefully they're filtering that porn better now.

In June, I'll have been on Gaia for 9 years. I've been on this website since before I entered middle school. I'm an adult now, living and working.

I remember the first time I got a Monthly Collectible, back when they were called Donation Items. My friend and I had begun sending in money through snail mail. This was before Gaia Cash was a thing. In high school, my best friend and I bought cash cards from WalMart and we bought EIs. Every week it was really exciting to see what the newest evolution would be. It was fun.

I've spent a lot of money on this website over the years- On RIGs, EIs, MCs, zOMG! powerups, etc. I really don't want to think about how much money I've dropped here since 2005, it's probably thousands of dollars.

I'm so sick of it now. This website is falling apart because of Gaia's cash cow.

(Not a big fan of the title of this, though. The Occupy movement had very different roots and goals than this thread.)

Yeah, I don't know exactly how long I've been here, but it's been more than a few years, and I agree--under Lanzer, the site was fun and interesting, and there were regular developments, fun events, and decent maintenance. Under Gary Goldwhore, it's all about making money, making more money, and making as much money as the new management can, and f**k the rest. Sure, we get thrown a bone from time to time in the form of an occasional shop update or a couple of manga pages, but the soul of the site is gone. I'm still here, but I'm mostly just going through the motions, checking a few threads, gathering my daily freebies, and watching for any hope of improvement. I just hope that this isn't how the site is going to be from here on out...

did I just see a facebook share -_- really now gaia you just had to connect facebook and I agree with you hopefully it gets better and it doesn't we should all quit xD

Yes, there's now a FacePuke share button... Which I'll never use, since I deliberately closed down my FaceBook account when I found out that they broadcast their user's private information to pretty much anyone and everyone. What part of "private" do they not understand? Not to mention that they demand personal information such as where you went to school, where you're logging in from, etc. that I really don't want to share with them. I don't care if people from my old high schools are also on Facebook--I have no interest in hooking up with most of those people anyway!

Makes me wonder how soon Gaia Interactive is going to shut down this site and move everything over to FacePuke...

The Occupy movement had goals? I must've blinked when they announced that...

I agree, the site has really gone downhill severely since Gary Goldwhore took over... While I haven't been here as long as you, or spent nearly as much money (although I have bought a good number of plushies from this site), I know how you feel. My first EI was Catastrophe, and I really enjoyed seeing it evolve. So what if the EIs didn't always elvolve on schedule? I was willing to be patient and wait, since I knew that back then, there was a lot of work going on behind the scenes to keep the site running and keep it fun, and if EIs didn't evolve on schedule, or something developed a glitch, well, it was the price for being on a thriving, evolving, FUN website!

Now, the only forums I follow regularly are here in Site Feedback, which is pretty much about how bad things have become. All the Guilds I used to be in have either died or up and vanished; the one Guild I'm in now is devoted to saving what's left of Gaia Online while there's still a Gaia Online left to be saved... Sure, I play zOMG once in a full moon, but it's just not the same knowing that it could go down and stay down at pretty much any time. I log in pretty much every day, and what's my reward? A dozen "announcements" demanding that I buy crap I have utterly no interest in to support a site that's pretty much on life support and dying slowly.

I suppose I could be described as occupying Gaia myself, in a way, but it seems that just like the real-life Occupy movement, Occupy Gaia seems to have lost sight of its purpose and is now just spinning its wheels. I wonder if maybe it isn't time to start a definite movement to save Gaia, complete with clearly defined goals and a definite plan of action?

The bolded- My point. wink "Occupy Gaia" does have a clear set of goals, regardless of whether or not they have lost sight of them (although I haven't been following this thread until now so idk).

Loyal's bazarre has an attendance requirement. WOW. If that's not a transparent attempt to keep us from fleeing like rats from a sinking ship, I don't know WHAT is.
Sorry, Gaia. Putting a band-aid on after a bear took a chunk out of you isn't gonna cut it.

What is 'Vending'? You mean those dispensers on the top of the pages?

Why can't we have photos in the back of our avatar like that in the regular currency of gold? Why do we need gaia cash for that?
