I have a couple questions. If you become a mod, do you get a new mod acct or do you use your main acct? And on your mod acct do you get to do the same things you'd normally do or is that a no-no?
Pretty much what Mizuki said. The biggest change, I think, is just how you respond to people. Moderators represent the site, whether they want to or not. That means that you need to be on your best behavior. Being petty or childish reflects on the admins, not just you. And any guesses or speculations you make you need to be absolutely certain people know are speculations. If you say that you think X thing will happen, people will think you have inside knowledge and are sharing it. Because it's possible.
It's ... interesting to deal with people too. People who normally wouldn't talk to you will chat with you, try to befriend you, and sometimes even go so far as to think you'll do favors for them. Mods don't. But getting that across to friends can be interesting. It does put a certain wedge between you and other people because there's just so much that you'll know that you can't share with anyone whose not a fellow moderator.
You'll need to react more maturely to things and be prepared for insults, porn, hate accounts, hate threads .. the works. They happen to all mods. Some people go longer without it, but things can and do get ugly. Being patient and having a good hold on your temper is important.
