You are obsessing over the application. It very likely hasn't been open for a week or two, or more. Just keep checking once a day. As moderators have already posted, if the application opens up, it normally seems to stay open for a few days regardless of what time you are in. Don't worry about it so much or you're going to drive yourself crazy, some of us crazy, and it won't show that you're a very patient person (which is a requirement to be a moderator candidate)

I agree. It most likely isn't open for days. And I'm certainly sure it isn't open for just a tiny window in a day.

A few months ago I had been following the application for a month or two just for curiosities sake. During that whole time I found it open twice and both times it was open for a day or more. Just be patient. 3nodding

O man... I really want to be am mod! Do you really have to have a COMPLETELY clean account to do so?
Not quite. I had some unnofficial warnings on my account when I was accepted into training last spring. They also will look at accounts with warnings on them that are not recent.

Ahh ... depends on how many and what for, I think. People have been blocked from even applying just because they were warned too many times. Bans do the same thing.

Geminai knows this I'm sure but for anyone whose wondering ... simple thread moves do not count against you. They do not go on your records and cannot block you from applying. Informal warnings and sig removals do not count against you either, nor do post deletions though if you are piling up a respectable number of them it may be a sign that you need to learn the rules better before you are put in a position to enforce them.

Formal warnings are what you want to be careful of. If you are not sure if you have gotten one or not (if you did you would know. you would have received a message ... but for those who have been on for years and years sometimes memory is foggy) you can ask a moderator and they should be able to tell you.

Indeed.

Gaia wants moderatrs who are helpful, respectful, and patience.

The two people that were going through applications have left Gaia so I suspect there's a bit of a backlog of applications, I applied a few months ago and haven't heard anything since. You don't need to check it repeatedly during the day, they're not making announcements so there won't be a huge rush of people, just those that remember this FAQ and the link and check from time to time, when I found the applications open it was the first time I had checked in a month.

Patience is a key virtue for a moderator so you may as well get some practice now smile
Where you you apply for being a Moderator??

The link to apply is on the first page, you need to go and read the FAQ as it contains important information. If you read the whole FAQ you can't miss it.
I have a couple questions. If you become a mod, do you get a new mod acct or do you use your main acct? And on your mod acct do you get to do the same things you'd normally do or is that a no-no?

You don't get an entirely new account when you become a mod. All that changes is that your name on the main account becomes green instead of black, and it will have your title underneath, such as "Moderator Assistant," or "Site Moderator." And you can keep doing things like posting, buying in the MP, making threads, etc. on that same account. It doesn't prevent you for doing everything a normal Gaian does, except that you have your own responsibilities as a mod to take care of.

Pretty much what Mizuki said. The biggest change, I think, is just how you respond to people. Moderators represent the site, whether they want to or not. That means that you need to be on your best behavior. Being petty or childish reflects on the admins, not just you. And any guesses or speculations you make you need to be absolutely certain people know are speculations. If you say that you think X thing will happen, people will think you have inside knowledge and are sharing it. Because it's possible.

It's ... interesting to deal with people too. People who normally wouldn't talk to you will chat with you, try to befriend you, and sometimes even go so far as to think you'll do favors for them. Mods don't. But getting that across to friends can be interesting. It does put a certain wedge between you and other people because there's just so much that you'll know that you can't share with anyone whose not a fellow moderator.

You'll need to react more maturely to things and be prepared for insults, porn, hate accounts, hate threads .. the works. They happen to all mods. Some people go longer without it, but things can and do get ugly. Being patient and having a good hold on your temper is important.
I know you might find this funny, but don't laugh.
My friend is a regular active on Gaia and she has a Gaia boyfriend, will that affect her chance being a mod?
By the way its not me, I'm just asking for her.

No, it won't. If she's interested in being a mod she should make sure she's not sharing her password with her boyfriend though.
